circles.

I finally decided on quilting circles on my quilt.
I found out....
Unmarked circles are not as easy as I had hoped.
They are especially difficult as the circle g-r-o-w-s.
And...
I have a confession to make.
I always dream as I work on a quilt...
"THIS is going to the BEST quilt ever!!!"
Do you ever dream that as you work away??
I do.
I'm a dreamer.
At some point I realize...
This is NOT going to be THE BEST quilt ever.
Disappointment sets in.
I go to bed.
Wake up the next day,
and realize...
It's o.k.
Maybe the NEXT quilt will be the BEST ONE!!
;)
I was a bit disappointed with my circles.
But I sure didn't want to rip them out!!

The circles and swirls are o.k.
This quilt will live on a guest bed at my house.
It won't be living on the wall in a museum.

Mistakes are o.k.
It's all a learning process for me....
But I don't think I'll ever stop dreaming about

that Perfect quilt....
The BEST quilt EVER!!!!

  1. Your circles are fantastic! What a great idea. I know how hard it is to make them, especially as they get larger. I started out with spirals on my spider web, thinking it would be the easiest thing, but ended up ripping them out and starting over. Congratulations!!

  2. I think that the wonkyness of the circles are perfect! Don't tell anyone that they weren't supposed to be otherwise. It goes so well with the stripes....great job!!

  3. Gorgeous and inspirational! I have a pile of striped fabrics just waiting for me to get busy -- one of these days! I love your blocks and your choices of borders. The lighter borders really set off the others and frame the whole quilt so nicely. An A++ for sure!

  5. This is a great quilt--I'm in the middle of free-motion quilting right now, and I don't even try to be as artistic as you are. I think I'll try to make more of those curly things

  6. I think your circles are Just Right! I love the circular design on top of the rigidity of the block design and the stripes...great contrast! I love your quilt! It looks so warm and cozy. I do love stripes and plaids, and I love working with them too. I think you did a great job.

  8. I do love the circles, especially a little wonky - it gives movement to the stripes! Look at it again in a week and I bet you'll love it without reservation!

  9. I was going to say that I often find it easier to start at the outer edge of free form spirals, but your'e done!!! Wow; the swirls are the perfect match for all those stripes and lines!

  14. The circle quilting on the striped fabrics is fantastic and the overall look of the quilt is wonderful. I don't know how you could get exactly even circles or spirals without marking...part of the charm of free design quilting is its "wonkyness".

  15. Your quilt is beautiful. Wonderful decisions n the fabric, the different borders and sizes of triangles. Your quilting in circles and swirls is a perfect choice. The curves and the straight lines go together so nicely.

Ended up I didn't have or get enough striped material to do anything this summer. (I was afraid I was starting to buy too much fabric without finishing things up.) But when ever I do with with stripes I'll think of you!
