monday making

Spring is HERE!!
It was the perfect week to go camping!!!
and ....
I had the perfect project!!

This is an old old quilt that needs some hand quilting.
Someone a LONG long time ago began ....
I will FINISH!!!
My spring break camping trip seemed like
the perfect time to work on this beauty.

;)

This old quilt stole my heart when she was gifted to me.
I love her imperfect patchwork.
I love her color - oranges and blues with some red!
I love ALL her vintage fabrics!!!

What are you making this week???
Maybe you're finishing someone else's work like me......????

Little finishes

A teeny tiny finish.
Hand quilted with gold embroidery floss.

Backed with a modern zig zag.

Does anyone out there know the name of this quilt block?
I copied the design from an old quilt block I saw.

Love making little things.
The finish comes so quickly!
NOT like the big monster queen sized quilt I've got going!!!

I DO see the end of that one though!!
HOoray!
JUST have the binding to do......
How long do you think it will take me to
CHOOSE the fabric???
That might take longer than putting it ON!!!
LOL!

Almost THERE!

I'm adding a pretty green binding on my dump and sew today.
I think it kind of goes with that little bit of green
used in the backing fabric.
And...
I LIKE green!

I also like BIRDS!

I AM jumping AHEAD of myself a bit!

See?
I'm not even DONE with the quilting!

and look at that!!!
I missed a SPOT!!!
LOL!!!

That's O.K.

Having the BINDING on will make traveling
and quilting
less FUZZY!!!
Wool batting seems to cling to ME!!!

The GREEN binding fabric
is one my FOUND FABRICS!!!

Found fabrics are those that you SPY
when you LEAST expect it!!
When you're NOT looking for fabric!!!

This one was a SHEET in it's prior life!!!

A little more quilting...
A little more stitching to get the binding on....
A little more TIME with one of my
FAVORITE quilts!!!!

Home again!

I just returned from a ***wonderful*** family trip!
We spent a long weekend
In La Quinta, Ca.

There were 5 of us who had to
SQUEEZE into our van
for the drive....

Five people
PLUS duffle bags and food!!!
We were packed to the GILLS!!!
But....
I still NEEDED some projects to work on, right??
right!!!

The above photo shows the projects I brought!

I worried that after squeezing it ALL IN
I wouldn't have time to work on them!

But...
I did!!!

Between tennis, hiking, cooking, swimming.....

During REST TIME...

I did some weaving!!!

I'm so glad I took my loom!

Then I hand stitched the binding on this one!

Last, but not least,
I made progress on this handquilted treasure!'
My dump and sew quilt! ;)
The END is in sight friends!!!
Woo Hoo!!!

I was so pleased to get things done
WITHOUT a sewing machine!

Hey!!!
We even had another family picture taken!!!

Two pictures of everyone together within 2 weeks!!!
THAT won't happen again!!!
;)

still stitching

This is my traveling bag.
It's been to almost every soccer game and practice this season!!!
And...
I had TWO of those EACH week!
LOL!!!

While the kids were getting some exercise...
I was quilting!!!!!
but...
It's NOT done!

Since it's always in my car...
I'm always ready!!!

I was even able to work on it Friday
when I ended up at the mechanic
Unexpectedly!!!
:/
I Love the texture on the back here!

Soccer season is over.
Maybe when baseball season begins...
I'll make some more progress!!!

Here it is BEFORE I began:
I CAN'T WAIT
to see it ALL done!!!

Today I'm linking up with Judy.
Happy Monday!

handwork

Making table mats is something I really like to do.
I'd call them table runners....
but they're always a BIT short.

I have a drawer with my little collection.
Oh...
And sometimes I'll give one or two away.
;)

This little table mat has been traveling around with me.

I'm finally DONE!
(well almost)
;/

There was the piecing..
There was the embroidery...
then.... the hand quilting.

It saw me through meetings...
doctor appts....
and most recently...
a CAMPING TRIP!!!

The binding is on!!!
And tomorrow...
I'll be stitching that down on the back!
With FRIENDS.
That makes the sewing so SWEET!

hand quilting

While I'm away from blogland for the next few days
I'll be doing a lot of THIS!
Hand quilting a quilt I began here.

I'm looking forward to getting this quilt
Off of my to do list....
Out of my quilt top pile.....
Into the hands of someone who might like it!!

Hopefully they'll like it as much as I do.
It's kind of a quirky baby quilt.

It only came about
because this little bit of owl fabric....

this old vine fabric....

and these little girls jumping rope
found their way to my house!!!!

I'm so glad these little bits arrived!!!
Tiny pieces this cute
Deserve to be in a QUILT!!!

Friends.

Thursday morning often finds me in the company of friends.
Creative friends.
Isn't Linda's hand quilting beautiful??
Friends that know how to make sweet gifts, like Jenn.
Bibs and little blankets for the babies to love.
Aren't those little ribbons perfect???
Ellen knitting and some discussions about recipes!!
The perfect kind of morning.
I DO love my Thursday mornings!!!
The only requirement for ME is that I clean the house!!
That's one of the blessings of having company.
The house gets tidied up!!!
Sometimes a little less than other times. :/

There are also the friends that can't come over on Thursday mornings.
It would take WAY too long!!
Like Nina from Norway!
I was so happy to receive this today!!!
I'd seen it on her blog...admired it....then I got to hold it!!!
WOW!!!
And you know what???
I now have the PERFECT number of houses to send out to the winners!
:)
I also have JUST the right amount of these little houses!

YEAH!!!
Everyone gets to play along!
I'm OFF to the post office!!!!

hostess gifts

My husband and I were given hospitality last week
on our trip.
A couple of wonderful meals and
great fellowship with friends.
A thank you note would be sufficient....
But a quilted gift is lots more fun!!!!
Twin table runners.
14" x 30"
For two sets of great hosts and hostesses!!!

You can see I used lots of white scraps for the background.
I really like that part!!!!

My simple shapes were ironed on using steam a seam and
a simple zigzag stitch around each one.
Good thing I had some matching thread!!!
The long vine is cut 1" wide, machine basted in thirds
and then stitched down.
After zigzagging it down I took the basting stitch out.
Super simple!!

I machine quilted a few lines to help stabilize
and make my handwork easier...
The hand quilting NOW begins!!!!

can't put this down.

I began quilting this yesterday
and I can't put it down!!!

This is my liberated amish basket quilt.
I've already begun quilting the third basket out of 16!
I did not mark this quilt.
I'm just following along with the piecing.

Wow!
This big old fashioned quilt stitch goes fast!!

I looked and looked for some smaller weight perle cotton...
I was patient...(amazing but true)...
and finally found some 20 weight thread at
Hobby Lobby when I was visiting my daughter.
YEAH!

Love the back!!!
I'm using wool batting.

And I'm definitely enjoying myself as I quilt away!!

I'll add this to Amy's show and tell...
then I'll go around and see what everyone else
has been up too!!
I'm always inspired!!
