FIRST project

Think back.
Remember your VERY first project?
The VERY first time you sat down to a sewing machine?
Your VERY first STITCH???!!!!

I was able to re-LIVE all that yesterday
with our newest sewing SISTER Candace!!!

She walked into my house
with a BRAND new machine...
(still wrapped up tight in the box).
We OPENED it up....
and the FUN began!

Where do the plugs go?
Where does the thread go?
What's a bobbin?
It goes backwards too?

We used my drawer of squares
for this fun little project.
(A small pillow for
her new little nephew.)

She thought she would need to buy
a pincushion
along with scissors, pins, etc.....

"Pincushion???
oh NO!!!
Don't buy that!" I said.

"I know how to MAKE one of those!!
and
YOU CAN LEARN TOO!"
;)

Oh...
It was FUN to share
my LOVE of sewing
with a FRIEND!

I'm adding this post to a
couple of linky parties
here and here.

Not technically MY finish...
but I FACILITATED
from START to FINISH!
:)

Baby Shower!

I attended a wonderful baby shower today!
There were vintage books and toys....

Some terrific fabric.....
That I'm going to be searching for soon....

There were new books that looked vintage...
but weren't.

And new books that were
DEFINITELY NOT vintage....
LOL!!!

THEN....
There were the HOMEMADE gifts.
LOTS OF THEM!!!

Aren't these booties ADORABLE?

A knitted afghan made by one of the Grandmas.

Exquisite!

A small afghan made by a teenager!
This one just BLEW me AWAY!
It was so soft and sweet!

A little bunny rabbit....
Lying on top of an original print by
one of the new mom's friends!

A quilt from another Grandma....

And....
A Quilt from ME!!!

Baby showers...
Mmmm....Mmmmm...Good!!!!

Soft lavender

My friend, who ordered this for her friend, said....
"It's JUST right."
Oh good!

I struggled a bit with the lavender....
But....she knew what she wanted...
and this is it!!!

I did find the perfect backing and gingham binding....
Don't ya' think??

This quilt will be cuddling soon...
with a Mom who's very ill....
sitting right next to her children...
Reading a book!
I need to speed it on it's way.....

sewing party

We had a sewing party yesterday!
A quilt square making party!
A scrap busting...good time!!!
All we needed were 9" squares of phone book pages.
Lot of scraps...
And some willing workers!
Some Smiling workers!!!
And...
Some Quilt loving workers!!!

We now have LOTS of blocks ready to make some quilts!!!
Graduation is in June...
So....
We have time to make a few more blocks and
then.....
Make some quilts!!!
Yeah!
This was a great group project.
It was so easy to sew those strips onto paper...
Trim the block to 9" square...
Viola!!!
Even the beginners had GREAT success!!!

Friends.

Thursday morning often finds me in the company of friends.
Creative friends.
Isn't Linda's hand quilting beautiful??
Friends that know how to make sweet gifts, like Jenn.
Bibs and little blankets for the babies to love.
Aren't those little ribbons perfect???
Ellen knitting and some discussions about recipes!!
The perfect kind of morning.
I DO love my Thursday mornings!!!
The only requirement for ME is that I clean the house!!
That's one of the blessings of having company.
The house gets tidied up!!!
Sometimes a little less than other times. :/

There are also the friends that can't come over on Thursday mornings.
It would take WAY too long!!
Like Nina from Norway!
I was so happy to receive this today!!!
I'd seen it on her blog...admired it....then I got to hold it!!!
WOW!!!
And you know what???
I now have the PERFECT number of houses to send out to the winners!
:)
I also have JUST the right amount of these little houses!

YEAH!!!
Everyone gets to play along!
I'm OFF to the post office!!!!

thinking and sewing

I made this for my friend Lori.
While I stitched away I thought happy thoughts about her
and the friendships I enjoy.
:)

She bid on one of my quilts last month
that I had donated to a fundraiser.
She didn't win. :(
She's always so positive about my quilts.
What an encourager.

Friends like that make my life so happy.
So...

I thought I'd give this to her
"just because".
Her birthday is in April...
and I just couldn't wait that long.

I think she'll like these colors too.
:)

well....
guess what?
She must have been thinking of me too.

Look at what she gave me yesterday "just because".
Vintage goodies.
:)
Our happy thoughts were colliding this past week and
we didn't even know it!!!!

today and yesterday.

Today:
A great fabric find!!!
An extra large wrap around skirt from the thrift store....
Love that place!!!
What do you think??? Will a linen/cotton blend work in a quilt?
I'm going to find out!

Yesterday:
Lots going on at my dining room table!!!

First of all, I think I've discovered
a "soon to be famous" seamstress!!!
She made this skirt without a pattern....
with only a little help from me!

We talked about...
biases, the grain of the fabric, seam sizes, stitch length.....
Our conversation buzzed with
sewing terminology!!!

Then she began a simple quilt!!!
woo hoo!!!

This was the only scary part for me.
A rotary cutter in the hands of a 14 year old!!
I fussed a little bit....
and worried a little bit.....
and fussed JUST a little bit more. ;)
Can you guess what I was saying???
"Close the blade!"
She caught on real quick!!
I am SOOOO excited to see this young friend
begin her creative journey!!!

Another friend at the dining room table
clicked away.....

She's going to make a mate for this slipper.
It's HUGE!!
I guess that's what happens when you want to
felt with wool...
It's got to begin really....really.....big!!
I think her son's foot is pretty big too!!!
Jenn was working on a table topper.
She added a flannel backing and will
hopefully get to begin hand quilting with
embroidery floss real soon!
I was so happy to work away with these friends.
Talking....
sewing.....
aahhhh!!!!
I am so thankful for these simple pleasures!!!
