Monday Making with scraps of flannel

What are you up to this week?

I spent time with this face ALL weekend!

What a pleasure.

Grandma had just a LITTLE bit of fun with the camera!!!

;)

You wouldn't know it from that happy face....

but she tends to spit up QUITE a bit.

Burp cloths are a necessity.

My flannel scraps came in handy!!!

So happy to have ALL the supplies ready to GO!!!

These burp cloths are NOT uniform.

Oh no.

They were constructed with WHATEVER size scrap I had on hand.

And I DO have SCRAPS of flannel!!!

Oh YES I do!!

How about you???

I made these little cloths VERY quickly...

I wanted to HOLD that dear face as MUCH as possible!!

Sewing and holding are not compatible activities!!!

Friday Fun

Isn't fabric FUN???

I took some leftover pieces from the simple flannel blanket

I made for the newest baby

and had SO much fun creating this little kitty cat!

Except for the fiddly little tutu this project was a breeze!

I will never tire of happy and scrappy!!!

Super simple

I have become a DEPOSITORY for leftovers.

Yup.

If  friends make something.... they think I am the

LUCKY winner for the leftover pieces!

I try to say NO....

But it doesn't always work.

These flannel strips came in a little bag

and were almost all leftovers cut the WIDTH of the fabric.

Very timely leftover acquisition...

since last night my husband thought I needed some DOWN time...

and suggested I go SEW!!!

He knows me well.

;)

All I had to do was sew these strips together!

They're all a little bit different widths.

(I didn't even TRIM them!)

I got these strips together BEFORE they took ROOT in my STASH!!!

Sometimes if you add the NEW scraps to the OLD....

they begin settling in and NOT finding their way OUT of the stash!!!

I call it "taking ROOT"!

The plaid backing was in my stash!

So the UP side to getting leftovers is....

you end up using some of your stash to FILL in and complete the quilt!!

The wavy quilted lines were SO EASY!!

I need to use them more often.

So that's it friends.

The SIMPLEST Scrappy quilt arrangement

with gifted LEFTOVERS.

ADD them together you get....

SANITY sewing!

You also get..

a GREAT charity quilt that will comfort and bring joy to others!

This quilt measures about 40"x60"

I used MOST of the leftovers given to me.

I used plaid from my stash

AND

I was also able to find some leftover binding strips

to make a scrappy binding!!!

Baby snuggles

I HAVE to make something for the new babies.

IT's A MUST.

Homemade baby things are not OPTIONAL.

;)

They are required.

This little baby blanket made with two pieces of flannel....
four cute little ribbon "tags"....

and hand quilting ALL around...

is one of my "GO TO" baby gifts these days.

I LOVE the happy animal print.

SO fun.

I added a little how to video to my YOUTUBE channel

a while back describing how I make these little cuddly blankets.

I'll ADD a book or two for older brother

I'm going to head over and meet my new little friend.

and was immediately SUCKED IN

to the flannel isle!!!

Who can resist the CUTE prints they have there???

Good thing too.

I'm donating these to a family in need for the holidays.

Super SIMPLE last minute sewing project!!!

I made mine very much like this one.

My pillow case and coordinating fabric are flannel

My POP (trim) is cotton fabric

and 3" wide.

Hope you're able to SQUEEZE a little sewing in this week!

It's definitely a squeeze at this time of year!

Fun with Flannel

It took me a FEW tries.....

but I finally succeeded in filming a youtube video.

It only took me FOUR times......  ;/

 

It's still not perfect....

but perfect is NOT in my vocabulary.

 

I love simple.

I love homemade.

and

I love to share about it!

I had JUST a little piece.

Perfect for a little project like this!

 

I'm all set up for a baby shower now!

I'll fold these up and wait for the next one.

I even have some choices!!!

My daughter has been making/sewing things...

but this is her first quilt.

 

Guess who it's for???

Her husband is a BIG football fan.

 

I told him it was meant to be.

 

My daughter was born on SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!

I listened to PRE-game interviews on the hospital television

during labor with her.

 

Ah...... memories......

 

 

 

pretty little houses

I made a simple little quilt.

I couldn't resist the cute little houses.

It was only about 1/2 yard

and I used EVERY single INCH!

 

A little bit of CUTE fabric

is ALWAYS a great reason for making a quilt

The SKY blue was in my stash.

This is a little flannel quilt.

Soft and cuddly.

I just LOVE the blue with that brown print!

 

Thinking I'll just add a flannel backing

and QUILT it up WITHOUT batting!

Nice and light.

Now that it's getting cold here

it doesn't make any sense at all...

but...

that's what I'm going to do!!!

LOL!

 

The other reason i made this quilt is....

I've had a SUPER busy week

and I HAD to de-stress.

 

My machine has a BIG magnet attached SOMEWHERE

that PULLS me IN

during BUSY stressful days.

Isn't that what your machine does too???

It's ALWAYS nice to see

one of my quilts....

In ACTION!!!

Monday

I'm beginning my week with a FINISH!

A very. simple. finish.

This little quilt began with these two fabrics

found in the remnant pile at a VERY reduced price.

I liked that little print...

but wondered how I would add some color!!!!

GREEN was the answer.

I used ONLY what I could find in my stash.

It worked!

I'm sure I would NEVER have chosen that backing

 IF I had been shopping!

BUT....

since I didn't want to go shopping....

I found something that worked...

and....

I think it gives this quilt even MORE color!

The front of this quilt is nice soft flannel.

The backing is cotton.

Sometimes if you use ALL flannel

 the quilt becomes TOO Heavy and warm.

Ingredients for this quilt:

sixteen squares of fun fabric: 7"x7"

forty strips for sashing:  3"x7"

twenty five cornerstones:  3"x3"

Put it all together!

Baby quilt measures about 39"x39"

Flannel Bibs

 I found something my daughter-in-law likes.

I can make these AGAIN and AGAIN...

and she'll use them

AGAIN AND AGAIN.

:)

I first made a couple...

and have been making...

A COUPLE

every so often.

Everytime I see my Little Granddaughter...

she has one on!

;)

Makes THIS grandma Happy. Happy.

I begin with this homemade pattern....

Drawn hastily onto a piece of paper.

Bibs are NOT an exact science. ;)

I lay that pattern down onto

Two pieces of flannel.

right sides together.

and cut the bib out.

 Decorate the front of the bib.

Sew the rick rack or ribbon on.

I also used cotton fabric from my stash to

add interest on the first two bibs shown above.

 I made the ties by cutting cotton fabric

1 1/2" wide, 15" long

folding the raw edges in

and sewing.

 Lay the ties on top.

Put the back of bib right side down....

and sew the front and back together.....

Make sure you don't sew over the ties

that are inside. ;)

(You should also TRIM the seam around the neck

before turning it right side out.)

 Leave an opening.

This.....is.....

A VERY important step!!!

:)

Turn RIGHT side out.

Top stitch around the edge.

VIOLA!

I see many more bibs in MY future.

flannel scraps

Amazing what ONE little owl can do.

I began with some flannel scraps and thought my little blankets

were a bit....

BORING.

I WAS happy to use up some scraps though!

Like I said.....

That ONE little owl adds SOooo much.

Blanket stitching makes it look even better!

Remembering to cut out the center of the

fusable is BETTER still!!!!

It makes the applique so much softer!

Those fusables can be STIFF!

I even added DARK little circles in the eyes

with a permanent pen!

Bottom LINE:

Boring blankets can be CUTE with just a little something!

Google an image.

Get some ideas.

Iron on some fusable.

Add a little stitching.

VIOLA!

a little something

I had this little bit of flannel in the stash

and....

I wanted to make a bib

for the new grandbaby...

The Challenge was:

It couldn't be PINK!

This teddy bear print was the right color

but needed to be

"girlie".

I think the lace and yo-yo did the trick.

Here's the back.

Just another piece of flannel.

That was so fun...

think I'll make another!!

I'm adding this to Fabric Tuesday!

I'm stuck.

I'm stuck on the disappearing 4 patch.

Totally stuck!

Maybe if I make a few more blocks I'll run out of steam...

But I don't know.

This block sure gotta hold of me!!!

I used some flannels this time.

Pretty, huh?

I used 6" oops! 8 1/2" squares to make my D4Patches.

It only took FOUR blocks to make the quilt!!!

Then I used a 3" border...and a 5" border on the outside!

42"x42"

Today I hope to make some more wonky D4Patches

hoping my wonky quilt will grow to be

TWIN size!!!
