Are you making little Christmas things this year?

I bet we ALL are making something.

It's part of the holiday tradition for me!

Can't let a Christmas go by without creating SOMETHING!

Right?

These little Santas are an old favorite of mine.

This year I made a few more and instead of adding fake greenery

I cut some rosemary from the garden.

I'm so happy with the look and the nice SCENT!!

I also made a super quick and easy little baby quilt!

Chinese coins in little boy colors.

Baby boys are a little bit tricky to sew for.

You want sweet....but it can't be TOO SWEET!

Haha.

I'm getting SO close to finishing my borders for

my hospital sketches quilt!

It's been my evening GO TO sewing when the chores are done!

One Patch Baby

Finishes are SO nice.

This quilt is made up of some HAPPY scraps.

ALL from the 2 1/2" square drawer!!

Yes.

The little drawer is STUFFED full.

It's so fun to dig around in all that

SCRAPPY goodness when making a quilt!

The backing is from my stash as well.

I actually had a piece big enough!

Those big pieces are harder find around here.

Guess I'm succeeding at USING up

and NOT shopping!!!

I also added a scrappy binding!

Woo hoo!

I quilted simple lines diagonally through each white square.

Easy peasy.

My deadline was MET!

The baby shower can NOW happen.

Monday Making

There's a theme going on in my sewing room.

It seems I'm on a baby quilt KICK!

Debbie at "a quilter's table"

has a quilt along going

and I succumbed.

I began a NEW quilt with others still unfinished.

Surprise. surprise!!!

Once I began sewing strings together...

I couldn't STOP!!!

The tiniest little pieces were used to make

this adorable pincushion!!!

Yeah for teeny tiny scraps!!!

friday finish

This quilt was ALMOST complete a LONG time ago!!

I can finally say DONE.

:)

I love baby quilts.

I love string quilts.

This is a happy mix of BOTH!!

The binding is finally on.

whew!

Now it needs a little BOY!!!

Baby Quilt

Baby quilts are SO much fun to make.

I love the colors, the fabrics 

and...

the SIZE!!

:)

The colors in this quilt are soft.

There were some fabrics that DIDN'T make the CUT.

Fabrics I thought would blend in.....

but they SHOUTED from their spot....

So..

I took them OUT.

The yellows are a bit BRIGHT and noisy......

but they're singing ALL ABOUT a sunshiny day

and that's a GOOD thing!

I'm so glad I slowed down enough to realize

this quilt needed to be SOFT and SWEET.

Monday Making

I am so HAPPY to report that 2017 is beginning with a QUILT!

Squares are 3".

ALL from my stash.

There are some oldies but goodies in here.

Scrap quilts will always have my HEART.

This quilt is for an upcoming baby shower.

I plan to quilt and then TRIM the edges straight.

THAT way I won't have to worry about Bias edges.

Bias edges are very finicky!!

Friday

It has been a busy week here!

All these 5" squares and I have been at WORK!

I love the way the flowers, polka dots and stripes melt into ONE fun baby quilt!

When I ran out of squares....

I dug around in my 5" stash and found these elephants!!

So perfect...

and SO fun!

The back was pieced using some leftovers chunks.

My stash doesn't usually have pieces BIG ENOUGH for the whole backing.

I'm trying really hard to USE WHAT I already OWN!

A challenge...

but a FUN challenge.

;)

I also quilted this quilt top that had been folded up

and ready to GO!!!

Since I was quilting ONE...I might as well keep the momentum going!

What I thought would be quick and trouble free....

wasn't.

I found out it IS POSSIBLE to quilt...rip out....and quilt again!!

UGH.

All it took was ONE movie to do the UNSEWING!

GOOD THING It's a BABY QUILT!!!!

Here's the reason:

When I pieced the backing I patted myself on the back!

Aren't those prints perfect for each other??

Then I lined it up with the quilt top and the batting

making sure...

OR SO I THOUGHT..

they were straight.

I happily went about quilting lines

and trimming the quilt.

WHAT?????
IT's lopsided.

;/

It didn't take me long to decide it needed a DO OVER.

I found another piece of fabric to use for the backing...

quilted it again

and NOW I'm HAPPY.

I even enjoyed that movie as I RIPPED!!!

;)

A little advice.

DOUBLE and triple check if you want your backing to be straight.

And then...

IF it's NOT...

Don't be afraid to rip!!!

Isn't it amazing how wonderful fabrics look when they're 

ALL MIXED UP??

Even if they are only SQUARES!

I'm SO happy to be sewing after a week AWAY!!

I'm sure many of you know that feeling!

Woodland Wonderland

I was very pleased to have this fun baby quilt

included in the most recent issue of McCall's Quilting magazine!

I used a wonderful Woodland print

and some fabric from my stash when designing this one.

Quilting was done simply with lines going diagonally both ways.

For me...it's the easiest AND

it looks GREAT!!

Win. Win.

There are so many GREAT patterns!!

The magazine has already started shipping

and will be available on newsstands

and digitally on February 2, 2016.

Not QUITE square

This baby quilt is ALL about using UP!

I love a good scrappy quilt!

For this quilt I began with ONE 3"x 3" white square.

I added random sized strips all around "LOG cabin style".....

(I have lots of random fabric strips!!)

Then I trimmed the block to 7 1/2" X 8 1/2"

Not QUITE square.    ;)

I then added 3" strips between rows

and 3" borders all around.

I love the way the white squares float around!

I love that I didn't have to do much cutting and matching seams!

I loved using LOTS of scraps!!

solids....checks....plaids....stripes.....and cute baby prints!!!

Half Squared and Happy

I finished a baby quilt today....

and I'm pleased to say I used up ALL the little half square triangles

that someone else had bagged up and given away!

They were all face to face....

ready to be stitched together!!!

I used EVERY single one

and then when I ran out....

I added that polka dot strip to the outside border.

;)

This is a bright and HAPPY quilt

and those little half square triangles are

HAPPY to be out of that little plastic bag!!

I love the way some of the half square triangles are bright with WHITE

and some are bright with bright!!

The MIX is what makes me smile.

Isn't this backing fabric wonderful?

Of course there wasn't QUITE enough...

so I added some polka dots.

There's ALWAYS a good reason to add POLKA DOTS!!!

Kaleidoscope for baby

Here's my latest baby quilt.

I take a quilting class at the local adult school and

this is our latest project/pattern.

I take the class to keep my quilting skills SHARP!!

Let me tell you...

this kaleidoscope pattern quilt was a DOOZY!!!

Oh my goodness!

All those triangles...

All those points to match!!....

All those blocks to square up.....

(don't look too close!  LOL)

It is NOT a quilt pattern for the faint hearted.

;)

I think foundation piecing would make it easier...

(for me)

BUT...

It's done now!!!

Yippee!

I was able to use some fun fabrics on the back.

The cute zebra print came from a pillowcase found at the thrift store!!!

I know.

Crazy luck!

And...

a striped binding is ALWAYS a great thing!!!

My striped fabric stash RARELY lets me down.

So...

I've practiced my precision piecing.

ON to LOOSEY goosey improv!!!!

AND maybe some...

SCrappy HAPPY strips!!!
