Monday Making

Are you making little Christmas things this year?
I bet we ALL are making something.
It's part of the holiday tradition for me!

Can't let a Christmas go by without creating SOMETHING!
Right?

These little Santas are an old favorite of mine.
This year I made a few more and instead of adding fake greenery
I cut some rosemary from the garden.
I'm so happy with the look and the nice SCENT!!

I also made a super quick and easy little baby quilt!
Chinese coins in little boy colors.

Baby boys are a little bit tricky to sew for.
You want sweet....but it can't be TOO SWEET!
Haha.

I'm getting SO close to finishing my borders for
my hospital sketches quilt!

It's been my evening GO TO sewing when the chores are done!

What are YOU making this week??
Thanks for sharing.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Everyone!
Thanks to all who participated in the Christmas quilt show!
Wasn't that fun??

The presents are under the tree.
The kids are all here.
The cookies have been dipped
and sprinkled.

The block print tree came home this week in a backpack.
It is SUCH a miracle that it is so perfect.
No wrinkles or stains.
I LOVE it.
Probably one of my all time favorite
SCHOOL art projects.

The vintage winter scene is on my wall.
I love the snow, the birds, the sled.

I am going to SOAK in the time spent with family.

May the Peace that Christ brings
be with you!

Handwork and baking continue to keep me on my TOES!

Sewing for the seasons

I've been busy getting ready for the holidays.

Ornaments and quilts.

I LOVE using my scraps!!
The little Christmas quilt also incorporates
some of the plaid shirts that I like to use.

When I realized I didn't have an October quilt....

I got BUSY!!

Teeny tiny 1 1/2" square triangles
became a little WELCOME mat
next to my pumpkins!!

This little quilt is 6" square.

After all that sewing....
I hung up an old friend!!

It's FUN to sew for the SEASONS!

Friday Finish

When I threw some half square triangles on my sewing table last week...

I didn't have a plan.

These triangles seemed to LEAD THE WAY...

And I really LIKE where we ENDED UP!!

Christmas in March

A Christmas table mat in MARCH!!!
It's never too early to make something for DECEMBER!
;)
(the fabric doesn't look like Christmas until you're up CLOSE)

These lost little orphans came together
and became another sweet project!!

I quilted this one simply....
running through the seams
in the traditional STITCH IN THE DITCH style.

It sounds like an EASY way to quilt...
but actually it takes some
CONCENTRATION
to stay IN that ditch!!!
LOL!

Monday Making

It's Monday!
Time to think about what I'd like to make this week!
All I could manage this morning
was to pull this old friend out.

This is a quilt I made a few years ago that doesn't scream Christmas...
but I think it fits in with all the red and green!
;)
I used paper pieced stars ala Peggy Martin
and some applique by ME.

I've been pulling out my Christmas quilts
and Plopping them here and there.
Christmas decorations are going to be VERY minimal this year
due to a long kitchen remodel going on.
Christmas cookies can't even be baked!!!
I'm just crossing my fingers it'll be done before the 25th.
I'm so glad remodels happen only ONCE in a lifetime.
LOL!

What are you making???
I want to hear all about it!

Thursday thoughts

It's time to decorate for Christmas.
Already!
Good thing I have a quilt to hang up...
Decorations are going to be minimal this year because my house looks like this...
(there's a kitchen remodel going on)

and I'm not up to pulling out more STUFF to add to the confusion!!
;)

This quilt came back from the publisher JUST in time to sling over a chair!

I was so happy to be included in the recent McCall's Quick Quilt
  ;)

My knitting needles have been moving around with me.
Days have been busy!
The scrap quilter in me had to see if I could use a variety of yarns
to complete this little fall vest.
I'm happy I wondered!

flannel LOVE

I walked into the fabric store
and was immediately SUCKED IN
to the flannel isle!!!

Who can resist the CUTE prints they have there???

Good thing too.
I'm donating these to a family in need for the holidays.
Seven kids.
SEVEN chances to make a cute pillow case!
SEVEN cute flannel fabrics to CHOOSE!!!
SEVEN strips of cotton to POP in the middle there!
My fabric stash is an UNENDING source of POP goodness!

Yep.
I'm having fun!!!

Hey!
I even made a one for someone at MY house!!!
;)

Super SIMPLE last minute sewing project!!!
I made mine very much like this one.
My pillow case and coordinating fabric are flannel
My POP (trim) is cotton fabric
and 3" wide.

Hope you're able to SQUEEZE a little sewing in this week!
It's definitely a squeeze at this time of year!

Follow the Star

It's amazing to me how often I turn to FABRIC
to help me out!!

I found a beautiful Nativity set last week
at the thrift store.
You know how much I love shopping there!!

The only problem with the nativity was....
It needed a BACKDROP.
NOT my white wall.

It wasn't easy solving my little problem....
But FABRIC...in the end....
was the ANSWER!!!!

I began by making a QUILT.
A SMALL quilt.
 ;)
Something with stars to hang behind the nativity set.

It was a GOOD idea.
BUT....
the QUILT didn't turn out quite right.
(sorry I didn't think to add a photo of REALITY)

That big gold star is ALL that's left of my FIRST try!

I CUT that big star out of the quilt.
and then began making little stars.

I layered fabric with batting...
just like a quilt
and then machine outlined a star.

I cut around leaving raw edges.
MAYBE someday I'll buttonhole stitch around these guys.
:)

My stars hang on a wrought iron wall piece.
It's perfecto!
(you can see it peeking out of the third photo)
;)
This is what GREETS me as I walk into the house.
I LOVE IT!

If at first you don't succeed...
TRY TRY again.
And....
If the quilt isn't the answer to your backdrop issues....
Cut it UP!
Ha!

Monday monday

I liked the potholders when they were just pieced together.
I like them a LOT MORE all quilted up!!!!
Don't you?

Maybe the fact that they're DONE is part of it.
:)
I love the center of this star.
Mmmm....yummy fabric.

I had a nice piece of this green/brown dotty fabric.
It was PERFECT for the back of ALL of my stars and bars.
Don't you LOVE when you don't have to make ANY MORE decisions??

People don't realize how many decisions we have to make as quilters!!!
It's exhausting.

Stockings

I thought I was all done making things for Christmas.

DO a need a couple more stockings
since the kids are finding spouses
and having babies these days.
:)

But.....
I was dragging my feet about acquiring new stockings...
Sort of wanted them to match the ones I have
and the ones I have were knitted by a GREAT aunt.
I'll never find a match!

Then..... I went to the THRIFT store.
One of my favorite shopping destinations!

I found a Bedspread.
The fabric is called "Matelasse".
Nice and thick.
Chunky and FULL of TEXTURE.

I knew JUST what I wanted to do with that bedspread!!!

There is SO much BEDSPREAD I can make
LOTS of stockings!!!

I'll put a couple in my shop and have enough left
for ALL the kids, Grandkids,
Friends of kids.....
Friends of friends...
and everyone IN BETWEEN!!!

;)
