Little scraps and orphans

I don't get tired of making practical potholders.

It makes me happy to give little things away
using UP leftover scraps of pretty fabric.

Even Orphan blocks make great little mugrugs!

I was happy to use this lovely plaid on the back that I've been saving!

One thing is for SURE!
I will use up my old towels...
before I even make a DENT in the SCRAP BASKET!!!

Potholders

Making little things like this is very satisfying work.
Making pretty and practical items
without purchasing ANYTHING
suits my frugal quilters soul!!!

I added simple quilting lines to these potholders....
and a little loop in case the new owner wants to hang it up.

My little pile of quilty gifts for Christmas has BEGUN!!!!

Giving little quilts away

I love giving quilts away...
EVEN when they're teeny tiny quilts
like these potholders.
;)

My 2" scrap drawer gave me PLENTY of options
when I was making these little gifts.
It was hard to choose a color combo!!!

What are you up to this week??
Link up and share.

Kitchen prints!

If you're a regular visitor here

They suit me.
They are....
Practical and Pretty.

Friday

I made ONE piece of pie earlier in the week for a gift...
and I couldn't STOP.

I kept digging around.....
Looking for appropriate PIE material.
The NON-calorie kind.
;)

I now have FOUR pieces of pie.
FOUR little potholders
READY for gifting!

This paper pieced pattern is based on this one.
(mine has the addition of a plate)

I dare you to try and make JUST ONE.

Little scrappy project

This little blog has seen a lot of potholders.
:)
I'm on a mission to make some more!
They wear out....don't they?
Well...
They DO if you cook!!!

I'm making a few sets as welcome gifts.

This set is for a man.
Are they MANLY enough?

I think the old LEVI's on the back add a LOT.
Plus.....
It Makes these extra STURDY.

As usual, I used an old towel for batting.
;)
I made a simple 9 patch using 2 1/2" squares
and a 2" border
making these about 10"x10".

Little projects make me EXTRA happy!
DIGGING around in my 2 1/2" squares drawer
 makes me happy too!!

Monday

One thing I really LOVE about quilting
is GIVING.

I love sewing those little 2" scraps together...
adding a 2" border....

and making something USEFUL to give away.

I make these when I need little simple gifts that say.....
THANK YOU.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
or
ANYTHING else!!!!!

Potholders are usually my GO TO project.
but...
scraps can be turned into SO MANY USEFUL things!!!!
;)

I like to add a little cookbook or cooking utensil with my quilted gift.

It takes a little time.
A few little scraps...
an old clean towel, cut to size....
some binding....

VIOLA!

Monday monday

I liked the potholders when they were just pieced together.
I like them a LOT MORE all quilted up!!!!
Don't you?

Maybe the fact that they're DONE is part of it.
:)
I love the center of this star.
Mmmm....yummy fabric.

I had a nice piece of this green/brown dotty fabric.
It was PERFECT for the back of ALL of my stars and bars.
Don't you LOVE when you don't have to make ANY MORE decisions??

People don't realize how many decisions we have to make as quilters!!!
It's exhausting.

Stars, bars and houses

I'm sewing up some scraps
to be turned INTO potholders for gifts.
I love these festive STARS!
The bars in the upper right are o.k. too.
;)
The bars were ALL together in my scrap bag...
Just needed two seams sewn.
I couldn't RESIST the simple design!

In other news....

Houses for the neighborhood party are arriving daily.
Sharon sent a house and barn.
One for the party and ONE for a charity quilt!

I LOVE the way she added this little pre-printed quilt block
into the barn!
It's PERFECTO!

Maria sent these two houses.
One looks like a daytime scene
and the other NIGHT!!
Fun! FUN!!!

The party is on.
There's still time to join in the FUN!
Leave a comment and I'll send YOU my address.
Details here.

Sewing Room in MINIATURE!

While settling into our new trailer...
I decided the FIRST order of business was to stake my claim!

I needed to Find a small area that I could call my "sewing room"!!!

This small table and chair fit perfectly.....
but I needed an ironing board!

Hmm......This looks like an opportunity!

All it needed was an ironing board COVER!!!

I made a sort of fabric pillow case.....
and filled it with some batting that has heat resist foil in it.

I added a casing and elastic!
Now it's PORTABLE!
;)

After getting my sewing space fitted up....
I finished this quilt top for an upcoming wedding gift.
I'm hoping to embroider the new couple's last name
and the wedding date in one of the white areas.
We'll see......

Then....
I made a couple of potholders for gifts.

I had packed so many scraps....
that I had enough to make some more for ME!!!

Last, but not least, I worked on a little girls dress.
Whew!!!!
Clothing construction is so FIDDLY!!!
Zippers.....ugh!!!
lining.....ugh!!!

Ah well.....
When things got rough.....
I just walked out the front door....
Took a DEEP breath....
and FELT the peace of nature
ALL around me!!!

Camping and Sewing
WERE definitely
MADE for EACH OTHER!!!

More little gifts

Today I made some more simple gifts:
POTHOLDERS.
The first two came about because I love that paisley print...
and that's ALL there was!
They kind of go together....don't you think?

Then I made two more using some orphan blocks.
Very easy.
Soft and pretty too!!!

These two are my favorites!
I love the blue and GREEN!!
A very happy combination!

All these potholders need now
are a COOKBOOK
and a gift bag!!!

Why is it my scrap pile never
gets smaller!!!
I always hope it will....
It never seems to happen!!!???
;/

Actually....
the way I work....
the scrap bag/box seems to GROW!!!
Maybe it's the way I DUMP!?????

Mini Dump and Sew!

Here's a mini dump and sew project.
It began during Granddaughter's nap time...
and ended this afternoon after she went home.
;)

First...
I found one of the MANY bags of scraps
that reside at my house.

I DO have scraps that are ORGANIZED.
These AREN'T!!!
:0

I dumped.

I goofed around pulling out some things....
Hmmm....
What colors will I use??

Took that bright green out and added some yellow.
Much better.
This layout was JUST inspiration.
The pieces DID NOT have to end up in this exact position.
That would take TOO much planning!

I began.
A red square next to a turquoise piece.

I pressed it open.

I cut the end off.

Remember...
My goal is do as LITTLE cutting as possible.

I found a stripe that fit PERFECTLY.
I'm amazed how OFTEN this happens!!!

See???
Another piece that's the perfect FIT!!!
Woo Hoo!!!

Someone WOKE up!
I took a BREAK
and we did a little swinging.
;)

When I was done with piecing my 9" potholders.....
I used an old towel for batting.

Quilted a few RED lines.....
Added the binding....

Here's the backing fabric.

Then.....I wondered.....
Do I CLEAN up this mess....
OR.....
dive IN and make another
DUMP and SEW project???

I hope YOU are making something
using a METHOD like this!!!

The linky party to share will begin
MONDAY, September 10
and end...
FRIDAY, September 15.

LOTS of time to
DUMP and SEW!!!
