Monday Making

It's MONDAY!
Time for a little linky party
to share what YOU'RE up to.

I sat down and did a little dump and sew quilt top this weekend.
(my affectionate term for dumping out the scraps
and sewing them together)

I LOVE dumping the scraps out....
choosing some pretty colors....
and
PUZZLING them all together.

I'll be quilting this
and getting it sent off soon.
The baby is due ANY day.

What are you MAKING this week??

Monday

Hand Quilting usually takes me a long time.
It doesn't happen when I'm at HOME!

It happens when I'm in the car...
or sitting in waiting rooms...
or confined in a meeting...  :)

This sweet baby quilt, FILLED with little pieces of
someone ELSE's leftovers, is now D.O.N.E.
Thanks to a VERY long car trip.

I didn't wait to add some binding!
I added it the VERY night we got home!
Hah!
Guess I was missing my sewing machine!

This baby quilt is small.
I pieced it about 6 years ago on ANOTHER family trip.
I was forced to USE WHAT I HAD!!

That's ONE thing I LOVE about quilting.
USING UP.
Not letting ONE little scrap go to waste!
Especially when they're CUTE little scraps.

This is a REAL use it UP quilt!
The little strips came to me in a small baggie.
OOooh! I LOVE little bags of SCRAPS!!!

Here's my NEXT "use it UP" quilt!!!
Also known as
DUMP and SEW!

Soft scraps.
Some SUPER sweet little baby prints!

Another quilt has BEGUN!!!

A Little bit of slow stitching

Last night
after a VERY big day
all I wanted to do was SIT and watch something....
knitting in hand.

But my knitting skills are not UP THERE yet.
I totally forgot how to increase at the end of each row.
:(
I did not have the patience to figure it out....
so I pulled out something that did NOT require
BRAIN power.
;)

This is one of my very first dump and sew quilts.
A little tiny baby quilt.....
Put together on a ski trip (I wasn't skiing)

DUMP and sew is the technical term
for sewing random pieces together
in a random format.
It's always nice when the random pieces
have a theme.
These scraps were mostly 30's looking prints.

It was a very small baggy of scraps...as I recall.

I added batting and an old piece of cotton to the back.

Quickly spray basted and gave myself a LONG line to quilt.

Pulled out some BRIGHT green thread.
THEN...
I was able to sit down after my LONG day
and STITCH.
;)

I have a few lines done.
Yeah!
I KNOW this little quilt will be calling my name
 from the dining room table
ALL day long as I do my chores.

I will try NOT to listen.
;)

Almost THERE!

I'm adding a pretty green binding on my dump and sew today.
I think it kind of goes with that little bit of green
used in the backing fabric.
And...
I LIKE green!

I also like BIRDS!

I AM jumping AHEAD of myself a bit!

See?
I'm not even DONE with the quilting!

and look at that!!!
I missed a SPOT!!!
LOL!!!

That's O.K.

Having the BINDING on will make traveling
and quilting
less FUZZY!!!
Wool batting seems to cling to ME!!!

The GREEN binding fabric
is one my FOUND FABRICS!!!

Found fabrics are those that you SPY
when you LEAST expect it!!
When you're NOT looking for fabric!!!

This one was a SHEET in it's prior life!!!

A little more quilting...
A little more stitching to get the binding on....
A little more TIME with one of my
FAVORITE quilts!!!!

Home again!

I just returned from a ***wonderful*** family trip!
We spent a long weekend
In La Quinta, Ca.

There were 5 of us who had to
SQUEEZE into our van
for the drive....

Five people
PLUS duffle bags and food!!!
We were packed to the GILLS!!!
But....
I still NEEDED some projects to work on, right??
right!!!

The above photo shows the projects I brought!

I worried that after squeezing it ALL IN
I wouldn't have time to work on them!

But...
I did!!!

Between tennis, hiking, cooking, swimming.....

During REST TIME...

I did some weaving!!!

I'm so glad I took my loom!

Then I hand stitched the binding on this one!

Last, but not least,
I made progress on this handquilted treasure!'
My dump and sew quilt! ;)
The END is in sight friends!!!
Woo Hoo!!!

I was so pleased to get things done
WITHOUT a sewing machine!

Hey!!!
We even had another family picture taken!!!

Two pictures of everyone together within 2 weeks!!!
THAT won't happen again!!!
;)

still stitching

This is my traveling bag.
It's been to almost every soccer game and practice this season!!!
And...
I had TWO of those EACH week!
LOL!!!

While the kids were getting some exercise...
I was quilting!!!!!
but...
It's NOT done!

Since it's always in my car...
I'm always ready!!!

I was even able to work on it Friday
when I ended up at the mechanic
Unexpectedly!!!
:/
I Love the texture on the back here!

Soccer season is over.
Maybe when baseball season begins...
I'll make some more progress!!!

Here it is BEFORE I began:
I CAN'T WAIT
to see it ALL done!!!

Today I'm linking up with Judy.
Happy Monday!

Deadlines

I know you've seen this quilt top before...
but Now it's DONE!!!.......Thanks to a deadline!
Aren't deadlines GREAT????
Wonder what we'd get done without them???

I added a little bit of embroidery.
I think it adds a nice TOUCH!

The center house block for this quilt has been in my orphan drawer.
It came from Applique Addict during one of the last two
neighborhood blog parties I hosted.

Isn't blogland NICE???
Marjorie sent me an extra block
just BECAUSE!!!

Like I said.
There are LOTS of sweet people in blogland!
It's been fun getting to know each and every one!

The back was pieced with what I have on hand.
I'm happy to say I haven't needed to buy fabric for a while!
Guess that says something about my stash, huh?

It's quilted and READY for the
BRIDE to be!

This quilt features LOTS of scraps
in my "dump and sew" style!
Gotta love those SCRAPS!

Warm and bright!

Here's Angela's DUMP and SEW quilt....so far!!
Don't you just love the colors???
She sent me a picture...since she doesn't blog.
How sweet is that???

Helen also did some dumping and some sewing!
Woo Hoo! For STRESS FREE quilting!

Try it.
You may like it.

***You might want to use SOMEONE ELSE's scraps.
After talking to a friend today...
I realized the scraps we recieve from "someone else"
don't hold as much MEANING!
Therefore....
it's sometimes easier to sew them together...
WILLY NILLY!!!

Dump and Sew

Our Dump and Sew linky party is NEXT WEEK!!!

Today, I thought I'd share with you
some of the quilts I've made over the last couple of years
Using this tried and TRUE method.
;)

Dumping the scraps is EASY!!!
Sometimes they come from friends in a bag....
Sometimes You find them in your stash!!!

Quite frequently.....they are leftover strips.

The quilt above is just strips.
Happy strips!!!

And this one used leftovers from someone else's project!
I actually paid about 50 cents for this bag of scraps!

What can I say???
I liked the colors!!!

And....
IT went together SO FAST because I did
VERY LITTLE cutting!!!

You can see.... I even pieced the outside border!

I made this one a long time ago.
Crazy quilts are dump and sew quilts...
don't you think??

Just choose a center and begin sewing scraps on!

In this quilt I focused on pink...
but added some other colors to perk it up!!!

If you're going to dump...
it's O.K. to be a little choosy about the colors you sew together!
;)

Even my corduroy quilt used this method.
The pieces I had were bigger...
and I did a LITTLE bit of cutting.
I made some blocks with large strips
and then cut them diagonally
to get those triangle shapes.

This is one of my quilty treasures.
An old potholder.
This is definitely a dump and sew project.
I LOVE this one!

And here's MY attempt!

A baby quilt using this and that.

A blue quilt using square foundations.

Another BLUE quilt!
I love this one!!!

And last but not least.....
A baby quilt using any happy colors
that fell out of the bag!!!!

Looking forward to seeing
****YOUR******
dump and sew quilts next week!!!!

Linky party begins Monday
and will last ALL week!
September 10-15!

See you THERE!
