Friday Fun

Remember this one?

Going back in my files
I found this FUN - super simple beauty.

I made it using donated fabrics for a high school senior.

Gotta LOVE scrappy!!!

The dark and lights make it all work.

Solid Squared

6" squares.
Blue.
White.
Tan.
Brown.
Green.
Little bits of gold and peach.

Is it MANLY enough?

I hope so.

It's the kind of quilt that I can work on
when I'm not feeling 100%.
Just sewing squares together takes NO brain power...
or VERY little.

I absolutely LOVE all those solids
and ALMOST solids.
Some of the fabrics were even turned
WRONG side OUT to look more SOLID.
;)

I'll be sending this OFF to Debra's quilt drive.
She's covering a fire station house FULL of beds.

still stitching

This is my traveling bag.
It's been to almost every soccer game and practice this season!!!
And...
I had TWO of those EACH week!
LOL!!!

While the kids were getting some exercise...
I was quilting!!!!!
but...
It's NOT done!

Since it's always in my car...
I'm always ready!!!

I was even able to work on it Friday
when I ended up at the mechanic
Unexpectedly!!!
:/
I Love the texture on the back here!

Soccer season is over.
Maybe when baseball season begins...
I'll make some more progress!!!

Here it is BEFORE I began:
I CAN'T WAIT
to see it ALL done!!!

Today I'm linking up with Judy.
Happy Monday!

For you!

After making my block wall quilt...
I still had lots of fabric left over....
Enough fabric to make TWO more quilts!
Amazing....right?
And...
It was mostly hand-me-down fabric!
I love using UP!!!!

I sat down right away
and pre-cut strips for the TWO quilts.

I have one set aside
for a sewing day at church.

and....

I have one for YOU!!!

It's my way of saying
thank you
to all my blogland friends for always
being so nice.

You're also saving
my family and freinds
from hours and hours
of quilty jabber!!!!

They thank you too!!!
LOL!

If you'd like to win a pack of strips..
leave a comment.
I'll use Mr. Random Generator
to choose a winner on Friday.

Happy Sewing!

Block Wall quilt

Friends.
I think this is one of the EASIEST quilts I've ever made.

I make a lot of easy quilts.
But..... I think....this one was the speediest of ALL!

I gave a brief "how to" here.
;)

And..... I think it's gorgeous!!!!

It will be a GREAT boy's quilt.
My daughter even paid me a HUGE compliment
and said it was the BEST boy quilt I've made.
Woo HOO!!!
10 POINTS!!!!

I have enough fabric to make one
and maybe even TWO more!!!
Hey!
I'm thinking IF I have enough fabric...
I'll cut some up and have a little give away!
Then...
You can make one TOO....
and confirm the simplicity of this pattern!!!
:)

Here's another reason to cheer!
I USED UP a bunch of BOBBINS!!!!

You know the bobbins that have
red, orange, green....etc. thread
and...
don't match anything????

Here's the proof that I'm not a THREAD color SNOB.
;)
LOL!

Happy quilting!
I'm OFF to cut some more strips!
All those solids
and
SORT of solids
are waiting to be another QUILT!!!

Sewing Solids

Today....
While sewing with friends...
I put BIG. UGLY. STITCHES.
Into my quilt.

I was dreading this job,
so I waited until I had friends to talk with!
It made a tedious job go MUCH faster!

Basting this quilt is the FIRST step
to a hand quilted FINISH!

Here's the backing.
Isn't this GREAT fabric???
IKEA to the rescue!
;)
Glad I found some fabric that I REALLY, really like
since I'll be spending LOTS of time with this one!

I put a few quilting stitches in....
It's now ALL ready to be my
TAKE along project!!!
Just in TIME!......

Soccer practice is TONIGHT!
;)

Quilt.....check
Needle and Thread....check
Scissors.....check
I'm set!!!

Triangles

Some BIG triangles have been added
to my DUMP and SEW quilt!

I love this quilt SOoooo much
I've already ordered the wool batting!!!

I look forward to spending LOTS of time
hand quilting this beauty!

Well.....?????

Have YOU found a bag of scraps???
Are you going to

By the way....
It doesn't take a BIG bag of scraps!!!
It can be a little bag!!!
You'd be surprised how FEW scraps it takes to make a quilt top!!!!

Please join me September 10-15
as we show them OFF!!!!

They do NOT have to be finished!
Spend some time sewing
and share WHATEVER it is
 you end up with!!!

A very FUN linky PARTY is
coming UP!!!!

Dump and SEW!

I'm frequently asked how I get so much done.
How do I make quilts so quickly???

One of my favorite methods for a speedy quilt
is called....
DUMP AND SEW.

The first step is to DUMP.
Take that little bag of scraps
and turn it UPSIDE DOWN!!!

You can use your own.....
but...
For me...it's more fun using someone else's!!!

Maybe it's the element of SURPRISE!
Kind of like a treasure hunt
opening that bag of leftovers from SOMEONE else!

The ONE thing you DON"T want to do...
is to measure....
AND...
You don't want to THINK too much!
It's time consuming to fret about the details!!!
:/

Just sit in front of your  machine and begin piecing!!!!

Start by putting similar sized pieces together!
That's it!

IF there are LONG strips...
sew these together and then cut them up a bit....
but NOT TOO MUCH!!!

The challenge is to cut
AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE!!!

You WILL have to trim...
BUT don't spend TOO much time on this part.

I use my floor and puzzle it together.
Sometimes it's in rows...
and other times I work ROUND robin fashion.

I love doing this!

There were some triangles in this little bag of scraps...
and I didn't think I'd use them.
BUT...
after some thought...
I think I WILL!!!

STAY tuned!
;)

Maybe  you'd like to make a DUMP and SEW quilt???

I thought it might be fun to see what others make
using this FUN method!!!

I"ll host a linky party next month!!!
Begin now....
Ask your quilting friend for a bag of scraps....
or better yet......
Find one in your stash!!
I bet you have one hidden!!
LOL!!!

Summer

I finished a little mini quilt!
Isn't it sweet???
I didn't realize how much I'd LOVE it!!
All those SOLIDS really make me SMILE!

Since I'm sending this away...
I'll just have to make another one...
for me!
This will be going to The House Quilt Project.
A great program that is serving
Wounded soldiers
and providing housing through Habitat for Humanity.

When I'm not sewing...
I'm Harvesting
and.....
trying to figure out WHAT to do with the HARVEST!

My husband has an amazing "city garden"
and we have an ABUNDANCE!!!

Lots of cucumbers...

That I used in this salad.

I even added fresh corn off of one of these cobs!
MMMmmmm....It was so good!

There are LOTS of smaller flowers to put on the table!

and...
BIG ones to enjoy!

Some of these.....

that I barbequed on the grill.
As I've mentioned before....
I add zucchini/squash to almost every meal!!!

It's usually HIDDEN. ;)

Beets are a NEW vegetable in our garden this year...
and I think I'll request we keep adding them!!!
WOW! Are they great!

We'll soon have LOTS of these babies!!!!
Then you KNOW I'll be busy!!!!

Tomatoes grow by the bushelful....
and need to be DEALT with!!!

 Salsa, tomato sauce, Tomato sandwich....
HERE I COME!!!
