Monday Making

Does this look familiar?

It's the same quilt block from Friday
with a little color switcheroo!
:)

This is Friday's block using a photo filter.
I can get LOST in those photo filters!

These two table mats are numbers 7 and 8.
My goal is 10, so I'm almost there!

It would be really NICE to piece those LAST two this week.
Then....
It'll be quilting and binding
and quilting and binding..
and quilting binding......
Haha.

What are YOU making this week???

Freedom Quilt

Putting these blocks together is the PERFECT way (I think)
to celebrate this time of year here in the U.S.

Thanks to everyone who sent blocks to be included.
MOST of the blocks are here......
There are a few more that will be puzzled into a SECOND quilt!
They will be quilted and bound
and then sent off to the wounded warrior project.

Isn't it beautiful???
I love it!

Wednesday

I've been doing some SLOW stitching.
This little applique project gets pulled out once in a while
and I add a few more leaves.
THIS time....
I'm going to try and stick WITH it
and get ALL the blocks done.
That's the goal....We'll see what happens.

I've also been getting some stars in the mail.
THANK YOU for your help
I'll wait for a few more patriotic blocks before piecing them together.

They are going to feel RIGHT at home in this quilt
being donated to the wounded warriors project.

I participated in a FUN trade a couple of weeks ago.
I sent a little zipper bag....

and received this cute little pouch in return!!!
Thank you Brenda!!

Happy sewing friends!!!

Monday Making

After receiving an email requesting quilts for
I was inspired to make a QUILT!

I opened my orphan box....
but...
I found I don't have enough patriotic!!!!
Not near enough to make a good sized quilt.
;/

Guess I'll be making some red ,white and BLUE this week!!!
If you're interested in helping out...
I'd be happy to include a star block from you.
Just leave a comment and I'll send my address.
I've had fun in the past
putting LOTS of blog-LOVE into charity quilts.
You might have a patriotic orphan looking for a home.

That's what I'm hoping to make THIS week!

What are you up to this week??

I call it Monday Making.
It's always fun to share
and linky parties make it easy.

Thrifty

Feeling Thrifty and Frugal today.
;)

Pulled out my patriotic/picnic quilt
made long ago using
RED, WHITE and BLUE scraps.
LOVE. IT.

Didn't have enough of the LUSCIOUS red...
so I added a piece of blue.

Made before I knew how to add a binding...
so the backing was cut EXTRA big
and wrapped around to the front.
Quilted very simply.

I used an old blanket for the batting.
Frugal INDEED!

I also patched some blankets this morning
and added new satin binding.

Yes.
I'm feeling EXTRA thrifty!!!

I cut two patches equal sizes...
pressed the edges in...

and added one to the front
and one to the back!!!

See how the stitching shows up from the first patch??
I can sort of follow along as I add the other patch on top!!!

I also patched a cream blanket.

Just giving NEW life to old blankets!!!

The side of this one also needed a little fixing.
;)

I DID purchase the satin binding.
I wondered about using cotton for the binding next time.
Any thoughts on the pros and cons of that????
I've got LOTS of cotton fabric
around here somewhere!!!

I can ONLY think of the pros right now.

Last, but not least...
I made a THRIFTy salad.

Everything came from the garden.
THIS morning.

A Thrifty Thursday.
A Happy Fourth!
 A wonderful DAY!!!

Summer

I finished a little mini quilt!
Isn't it sweet???
I didn't realize how much I'd LOVE it!!
All those SOLIDS really make me SMILE!

Since I'm sending this away...
I'll just have to make another one...
for me!
This will be going to The House Quilt Project.
A great program that is serving
Wounded soldiers
and providing housing through Habitat for Humanity.

When I'm not sewing...
I'm Harvesting
and.....
trying to figure out WHAT to do with the HARVEST!

My husband has an amazing "city garden"
and we have an ABUNDANCE!!!

Lots of cucumbers...

That I used in this salad.

I even added fresh corn off of one of these cobs!
MMMmmmm....It was so good!

There are LOTS of smaller flowers to put on the table!

and...
BIG ones to enjoy!

Some of these.....

that I barbequed on the grill.
As I've mentioned before....
I add zucchini/squash to almost every meal!!!

It's usually HIDDEN. ;)

Beets are a NEW vegetable in our garden this year...
and I think I'll request we keep adding them!!!
WOW! Are they great!

We'll soon have LOTS of these babies!!!!
Then you KNOW I'll be busy!!!!

Tomatoes grow by the bushelful....
and need to be DEALT with!!!

 Salsa, tomato sauce, Tomato sandwich....
HERE I COME!!!

No One will know

No one's going to know the ugliness this quilt holds!
Oh, they might...

If they look real close!

My all time LEAST favorite fabric....

And another....
all time LEAST favorite!!!!

If they look REAL close they might see a cleat.

Or part of a football helmet.

This is the LAST remnant of a quilt I made a few years ago.
Remember when you made quilts for EVERY occassion....
No matter how big or small???

Well...I bet I can top your occassion!!!
This quilt was made at the end of flag football season
for the Coach.
Yeah.....
A coach's gift.

I bet he laughs every time he tells his friends
the CRAZY coach's gift he received one year.
:0

Those pieces of fabric might be ugly to me....
but....
I sure like the way the little pieces look in HERE!!!!

donation day!

Sometimes A quilt has a mind of it's own.
This one sure did!!

This is my MARCH donation quilt.
My goal: One quilt a month.

(Anyone notice I'm still stuck on stars???)
Not really a bad thing to be stuck on....
I DO know how to get in a rut though...
don't I????

I began with this orphan block and surrounded it with some scraps.
It measured 16"x16" when I was done.

I cut FOUR squares 9" x 9" out of some
patriotic fabric given to me long ago.

Added a white square.
Drew a diagonal line down the middle....

Sewed TWO seams next to that line and cut it down the middle.

Viola!
I now had EIGHT of these Measuring 8 1/2"x 8 1/2"
Here they are.
Of course, I had to add cream corner squares too!! ;)
After finishing that star
I went looking for a border.
Thinking I would put some 9 patches in the corners...
I dug through my 3" bag of squares....
and made some 9 patches!!!
Oops!
I had meant to put the dark blues where the whites are!!!
Then...
I WAS GOING to put TWO rows of red sashing
with a white strip between.

Guess this quilt KNEW where it wanted to go.
So...
I went with it.

I made four more 9 patches....

Don't they look nice in two little rows??
Guess they thought they'd be lonely in the corners alone!!!
I'm so happy I was LISTENING to this quilt.
Because....
I LOVE it...
just the way it is!
