Monday Making

It's been a good week.

One of my quilts is featured in an article in

Art Quilting Studio  magazine.

It is a fun quilt celebrating my husband's garden.

I used an old linen napkin

and did a lot of fusible applique in a collage style method.

I also began a new project.

I'm trying to make alternate squares for an old embroidery quilt project.

I'll keep you posted.

Little scrappy squares are SO fun to use!

This has been a week of finishes.

I wonder what the coming week holds??

Will I pull out some more UFOs???

Or BEGIN another quilt???

The T-shirt bag above is made with my daughter's

outgrown shirts.

I love the graphics on this one and didn't want to give it away.

Making a little tote bag was the perfect solution.

It was also great that I had that cute zigzag shirt

for the lining in the pile of TOO SMALL shirts.

It's the perfect compliment to the outside.

I finished this vest for the newest baby.

I used this pattern and made it my OWN 

by adding some ribbing to the shoulders.

This little guy has a new outfit.

I've had the little vest hanging around.

I made it last year....but didn't like the funky size...

SO....

My granddaughter's little stuffed friend, Corduroy, has a new "LOOK".

The vegetables keep coming.

So I keep cooking.

I worked a bit on this UFO this past week

and HOPE to add some more blocks THIS week.

The pattern came from block lotto a while ago.

I added an alternate color way using white cornerstones.

I love ALL that color!

It's been fun digging around here for more fabric choices.

Monday Making

I just returned from a great trip to Switzerland.

:)

Right before leaving, I finally settled on WHAT

to take for HAND WORK.

The. most. important. item. to. pack!

I took along a few of these vintage dresden plates.

I have a whole stack!

After quickly machine basting twice through...

I had JUST what I needed to work on!

I am appliqueing around the outside of petals

and then I will add a center piece.

I also took wool yarn and knitting needles 

for my husband's new beanie.

I finished just in time

for a little alpine horn blowing!

After a successful auction of SMALL quilts (table mats) last weekend,

I had a couple of requests from the losers.

LOL!

I couldn't repeat the small quilt exactly...

But I tried to come close.

Scraps and orphan blocks just CAN'T be

repeated EXACTLY!!

Hello quilting friends!

I'm home from a busy weekend and all I can think about is

SLEEP.

:)

I may open this "BRAND new"

Vintage package of embroidered quilt squares this week.

I found this pack at a thrift store for $2.

There are enough squares to make a QUEEN sized quilt!

***OOPS! I just checked.***

NOT. queen. sized. 

:/

Don't ever give me an important job.

Haha!!!

I have to say...

I haven't seen a quilt made with these yet!

Welcome to the Monday Making party.

I appreciate all of you who link up every week!

This week, between small quilts

also known as TABLE MATS,

I am adding blocks to this quilt I started a long time ago.

The pattern was given out on block lotto (----years ago?)

and I thought I might join in the swap.

Well.... I kept the blocks

and decided to add an alternate block

using white cornerstones and background.

Little by little a quilt will SOMEDAY be complete.

I have been making small quilts.

Little TABLE mats.

I will quilt them eventually

and then they'll be used at a retreat auction.

I'm having fun.

Choosing color and themes as I go!

I've also been asking friends and family for ideas.

My daughter-in-law chose the color palette for that first one.

:)

I have also been working in the kitchen.

Trying to USE the produce that is either given to us...

Or from the harvest in my husband's garden.

The radishes were VERY plentiful this year!!

I've been cooking the greens....

and giving the excess radishes away.

How many radishes can YOU eat???

Don't want any FOOD or FABRIC to go to waste over here!!!

There are so many WONDERFUL quilting books!

This week I will be searching through mine

to find some inspiration for another

TABLE MAT!

I will also work a little more on hand quilting my

"H" quilt.

I was able to finish a quilt top this week!!

Happy DANCE!!!

My mom helped me make the four patches so it is

an EXTRA special quilt for sure!!!

It is one of the graduation quilts for the

seniors at my church.

My yearly QUILTY project is to give a quilt

to every graduating high school senior!

I will quilt it later...

so I left those edges AS IS.

The blocks were sewn together "on POINT"

Or - diagonally....

so I added a rectangle at the end of each row

and will trim the triangle points OFF later.

The reason, some of you know already,

Is that they will be BIAS edges when trimmed

and bias edges are VERY persnickety!

They like to bend and wobble.

Wobble and STRETCH!

I might be folding and unfolding this one

a few times before I get around to quilting it

so...

I want to trim the edges later.

Hey!

I might even quilt it BEFORE trimming.

That way I'll be SURE to keep the edge from getting distorted!

I COULD have added blue triangles all the way around.

But I didn't.

It was so much simpler (for me)

to cut rectangles and sew them on.

The fabric was not expensive.....

SO i'm not too worried about waste.

(the blue cotton is a VERY nice used cotton sheet!!)

Yes..

I felt very THRIFTY as I pieced this one together!!!

I have so many other quilt projects to work on in my sewing room!

Not sure WHAT I'll pull out next.

My knitting is taking a back seat this week

as I try to get some more hand quilting into

my "H" quilt!!

SOMEDAY it will be a finished quilt...

but it's hard to imagine WHEN that someday will be!

If I leave this quilt out and HANDY.....

I'm more likely to add stitching.

It's time for a Monday Making party!

What are you making this week??

I have been working on this afghan for a while now.

I had DREAMS of finishing before Christmas....

but that didn't happen.

:)

That's o.k.

It's progressing. Slowly!

I want this to get REALLY big!

That means...

it's a LONG term project.

The unfinished afghan AND the yarn are housed in a basket

Near the kitchen.

I pull it over to a chair and work as I listen to

people talk at the table.

It's a little busy work. NO thinking.

Now it's your turn.

Four patch Monday Making

Last week I was making four patches

and...

I'm still AT IT!

This time with masculine colors.

(They're all spread out on the floor now

so I can admire them)

I'm finding that the BOY colors are running

low in my 3" square scrap drawer.

:)

I will probably have to cut some up!

Can you believe it?

I have a GIRL quilt going (almost done)

and the BOY quilt just got started.

(Both quilts will be given away in June

to graduating high school seniors at my church)

My mom is visiting so I pulled out the scraps

and had her sewing with me.

I have at least ONE more machine

if you want to join us!

Haha!!

The easiest thing to do was to enlist her in 4 patch making....

but...

you know what???

We might just have to BRANCH out!!

I'm dreaming about beginning

at least ONE more quilt before she leaves!!!

Monday Making in the New Year

I'm going to begin the new year with 

a simple 4 patch quilt.

The 3" squares were READY to GO

in my little 3" square drawer.

I DID cut some purples

for the purple lover who will receive this one!

I have a nice stack started

and look forward to adding to it this week!

I'm hanging my little feather tree quilt....

and a family needlepoint

that has been in the family for ages.

I LOVE using these sentimental Christmas decorations.

The HOMEMADE kind are SO SPECIAL!!!

Of course there's LOTS of  GIFT making going on too!

Handwork and baking continue to keep me on my TOES!

This little pair began with an old quilty experiment.

I found the wavy pieces in my scrap basket.

WOW!

That meant ALL I had to do was make a little

Potholder "sandwich"

Quilt

( I used wavy lines)

Trim 

and then...

Bind!!

Viola.

Wish ALL my little gifties were that easy.
