Monday Making

I rolled THREE quilts up today
and found some gift bags to place them in.

I'm looking forward to driving around this week
and passing out some graduation quilts!!!

The girls all like similar colors...
so making them similar yet different was kind of fun!

I have a photo HERE of all of them BEFORE quilting.
The ladies at my church spent a Saturday making blocks
and then I put them all together and finished the quilts.

It is a yearly tradition that I LOVE.

What are YOU making this week??

Monday Making

It's been a BUSY week here!!

I visited my small quilt at the road to California
Quilt show.
:)

Added LOTS of half square triangles to my
Hospital sketches quilt!

After that....
I made plans for Graduation quilt SEWING DAY!
To be held next month.

Everyone who comes will make the 16 patch block.

If you SEW, then you know that not ALL the 16 patches will be EQUAL.
:)
Especially since many who come don't sew very often.

I thought by adding the corner triangles
I will be able to get them ALL uniform in size.
And no one will have to stress about making their's PERFECT!

It will be FUN way to get the quilts made as a group!

I also uploaded a new HOW TO on youtube.
Always challenging...and a bit scary....
but always FUN.

This week I hope to clean up the MESS all of that activity created.
LOL!!!

What are YOU making this week?

Friday Fun

Remember this one?

Going back in my files
I found this FUN - super simple beauty.

I made it using donated fabrics for a high school senior.

Gotta LOVE scrappy!!!

The dark and lights make it all work.

Friday Finishes

I was able to finish TWO quilts this week!

It DID help that they were BOTH sandwiched and
READY TO GO!

These are the first two of FOUR that need to be completed soon.

Four high school graduates will receive a little QUILT LOVE this year.

Graduations get earlier and earlier, don't they??

Believe it or not....
I still have SCRAPS in the basket!!
Even blue ones!!
LOL!

Monday Making

At my house there are graduation quilts to be made.
This is my most recent and hopefully
the last of  FOUR graduation quilts I'm making this year.

I LOVE giving these to the high school graduates at my church.
:)
At my house there is also a lot of GREEN!!!

Lots of garden produce that needs a PLAN.
A MEAL plan!

Wish me luck!

This big ol' cabbage found a home in Yakisoba
(recipe found in an old cookbook of mine-
and a nice big bowl of coleslaw!

I'm using all this green in our meals.
I sneak in Spinach, kale, chard, celery, lettuce etc...
into every meal.

I'm convinced all this green is keeping us healthy.

O.K. friends
What are YOU making this week???

Monday Making

This is my work for the week.
Another Graduation quilt with SCRAPS, of course.
:)

I originally thought I'd divide the rows
with strips of muslin.
but....
The scraps had another plan!!!

I"ll be here sewing scraps together this week.
Adding muslin strips and borders would have been SOooo much faster!
LOL!

Emphasis on Purple

I am happy to report I have another graduation quilt
READY to be quilted!

This one is scrappy
but I tried to emphasize PURPLE.

I was gifted the border fabric recently.
(when friends know you SEW,
they tend to GIVE you the fabric they don't WANT anymore!)
I rarely say "no" to FREE.
It's a very soft lavender gingham.
PERFECT.

I left the edges UNCUT just like the last one I made.
I received lots of helpful comments on that post.
THANK you so MUCH!

It's a nice feeling to be AHEAD of the game
on these graduation quilts.
I need to make FOUR quilts...so this is my HALF way point.
:)
Yeah!

*********
quilt info:
I made four patches with 3" squares.
2 white and 2 colored.

I joined them on the diagonal so they would be ON POINT.
The border pieces are all 5 1/2"x 9"...
PLUS
one 10" square cut on the diagonal (two triangles)
for the two corners that needed them.
(You can barely see one corner in the bottom of second photo)

Monday Making

I was able to finish a quilt top this week!!

Happy DANCE!!!
:)

My mom helped me make the four patches so it is
an EXTRA special quilt for sure!!!

It is one of the graduation quilts for the
seniors at my church.
My yearly QUILTY project is to give a quilt
to every graduating high school senior!

I will quilt it later...
so I left those edges AS IS.

The blocks were sewn together "on POINT"
Or - diagonally....
so I added a rectangle at the end of each row
and will trim the triangle points OFF later.

The reason, some of you know already,
Is that they will be BIAS edges when trimmed
and bias edges are VERY persnickety!

They like to bend and wobble.
Wobble and STRETCH!

I might be folding and unfolding this one
a few times before I get around to quilting it
so...
I want to trim the edges later.
Hey!
I might even quilt it BEFORE trimming.
That way I'll be SURE to keep the edge from getting distorted!

I COULD have added blue triangles all the way around.

But I didn't.

It was so much simpler (for me)
to cut rectangles and sew them on.
The fabric was not expensive.....
SO i'm not too worried about waste.
(the blue cotton is a VERY nice used cotton sheet!!)
Yes..
I felt very THRIFTY as I pieced this one together!!!
:)

I have so many other quilt projects to work on in my sewing room!
Not sure WHAT I'll pull out next.
????
What are YOU making this week???

Graduation Season

It's graduation season.
Time to FINISH the quilts!

This is the last of three graduate quilts
that will be given away SOON!

My blue scraps and leftover shirts
did NOT disappoint me!

A simple loopy quilting pattern was
easy and brainless.

AND...
my stash yielded some nice CHUNKS for the backing!

I enjoy making
and GIVING!
Don't you???

Purple Please

A quilt is NOT a quilt until it's quilted....
and the binding is ON!!

I can NOW say.....'
These are QUILTS.
;)
In the sewing realm...
binding seems to be ALL that I accomplished this week.

These are graduation quilts for two girls who requested Purple.

I wasn't sewing a whole lot...
but I WAS cooking.
I found a scrumptious recipe
in the Weeknights with Giada cookbook
borrowed from the library.
Aren't library books FUN????

It's called tomato-basil bread pudding.

YUM.

Basically....
it's day old bread, shallots, fresh basil, tomatoes,
salt/pepper, cheese (parmesan), garlic and
and egg/milk mixture.

Does anyone else knit as they eat??
Or is it...
Eat while you knit???
(I'm trying to knit a vest for my 12 year old)

I realized as I was writing this post...
that my quilted an knit projects MATCH!!!

I do NOT do much with purple....
but I guess this week I DID!
LOL!

Monday making

Do you drag your feet a bit when a quilt needs to be quilted???
I do.
Once I get going....I'm fine.
It's getting that backing done....
making the quilt sandwich......
And finally sitting down and figuring out WHAT to quilt!

Will it be lines...like I'm doing here???
Or a simple loopy all over pattern???
(that's MY doodle)
Or.....????

Well...
I've started quilting this quilt!!!
Just need a few more hours in my day to get her DONE!
;)

What are you working on this week???

Monday Making - the Purple edition

It's been a busy week here in my sewing room!
Who knew I'd be able to pull off a quilt top
AND a backing in one week????

It's a very improvisational quilt.....
so that helps me save some time.
When I quilt like this I do MINIMAL trimming and measuring.
;)

I was really dragging my feet about this one.
The recipient wanted a purple and black quilt.
;/
Those colors are NOT. me.

I pieced some scraps together HOPING to be inspired...
but I wasn't.

Eventually I took out some fabric and began making those big tall
TRIANGLES.

O.k. NOW we were getting somewhere.
I DO love what happened.
I was even able to use the pieced blocks in the back!!!
and I LOVE that TOO!!!!

This week...If I'm lucky.... I'll get going and make a
quilt SANDWICH and QUILT something!!
I have enough quilt TOPS!!

Do you take a DEEP breath before that step??
I do.

I included a picture with my husband's garden in the background.
Isn't it wonderful???
FRESH stuff here ALL the time.
The trick is USING it up!!!

Now it's YOUR turn.
What are YOU making this week???
