Monday Making

Does this look familiar?

It's the same quilt block from Friday
with a little color switcheroo!
:)

This is Friday's block using a photo filter.
I can get LOST in those photo filters!

These two table mats are numbers 7 and 8.
My goal is 10, so I'm almost there!

It would be really NICE to piece those LAST two this week.
Then....
It'll be quilting and binding
and quilting and binding..
and quilting binding......
Haha.

What are YOU making this week???

Paper piecing

I'm sewing with the "church ladies" tomorrow.
:)
Here's the sample block.
We'll be making a few quilts for High school graduates.
We do it EVERY year!

The block is simple.
Perfect for the newbie sewer.
8" square of phone book paper.

One square 2 1/2" or so placed in the corner.
I place mine slightly OFF the paper....
Just IN CASE it shifts in and doesn't cover the paper.

LOTS of strips of fabric.
LOTS of scraps....
added Half LOG cabin STYLE.
:)

I'm looking forward to a GREAT morning!!!

In OTHER  news....
One thing led to ANOTHER
and I found myself making another KNITTED cap this week.

I had the yarn.
My son has winter camp this weekend.
It HAD to be done!!!!
I finished it 1 hour before the kids left.
Whew!!!!

Things I learned while making my SECOND knitted project.
*using variegated yarn is helpful to the NEW knitter.
you can easily see the rows of stitches and figure out WHERE you ARE!
*Adult sized caps take quite a bit LONGER than baby caps.
*GOOD quality needles are SOoooo much better than the cheap ones.
They say.... QUALITY is the BEST value.
It's certainly true about knitting needles.
;)

Have a GREAT weekend!

Friday

I LOVED finding out about all your sewing spaces!!
Wasn't that a fun topic?
There's still time to vote in the poll!
I see I'm in the minority!!!
LOL!!!

Well..
While my dining room was busy yesterday
I was actually able to find a little corner to sew.

I needed to take breaks between chores
and cooking!

My little one's table in the family room
was the perfect place to do a tiny bit of sewing!

The machine Scurried into the closet
RIGHT before the company arrived!! ;)

I collected scraps to match the little flowery fat quarter I had.

While the turkey was sizzling away....
and
The stuffing was baking in the crock pot...
and..

the pies (my older daughter made)
were waiting for company....
(They were excellent!!)

I sewed.....Just a little!

It was the little break I NEEDED between all the busyness!!
;)

Then....
the busyness began!

There was slack lining....
Eating, of course...
visiting with family and friends....

And ALL these cousins for my kids to enjoy!!!!

Definitely
a THANKSGIVING kind of DAY!!!

happy scrappy fun!

It's hard to resist a request for just ONE quilt block.
How long can ONE block take?
Not long....but.......
Usually LONGER than I expect.
That's o.k.

This one was fun and it sure looks happy!!!

I will say though...
....those 7/8" measurements
INTIMIDATE me!!!

Sometimes I wish I could throw
MATh and MEASUREMent
Out the WINDOW
when I'm quilting!!!

And you know me...
SOMETIMES I DO!

For Victoria

You know Victoria has WONDERFUL ideas!
Here is another one!
A signature quilt!
She requested a 6 1/2" block.
Here's my Rolling Stone.
(I found this pattern in an old quilt book.)
Kinda cute, huh?

I've decided.
Quilt blocks are like potato chips.
You make ONE
and then....
You want to make a WHOLE bunch!!!

I can't stop thinking about all the possibilities with this ONE block...
but you know what?
I've resolved.
I'm not going to begin a new quilt.
NOT today.

 There's always tomorrow!!!
 ;)
