Monday Making

This week...
I hope to make headway on a little Christmas sewing.
I LOVE practical gifts
and..... Potholders NEVER go out of style.
;)

PLUS we ALL know...
there are PLENTY of SCRAPS to choose from!!!

This one just needs some binding.

I've also been doing a little knitting.
It ALL began with that ball of yarn from the thrift store.
"What could I make from it??"

I spent some time with Elizabeth during my coffee break....

Now...I'm spending time with Lorilee on youtube.
I'm still trying to figure it out.
:/
Getting my BRAIN cells some exercise I guess.
It's called the baby surprise jacket.

I've also been making MEMORIES.

Here he is. My fourth child.
My first foster child.
My adopted son.
and....
A college senior ALREADY!!!!

Yesterday he was a wiggly little redhead
with TOO much energy!!!!
Today he's on the brink of adulthood.
(poor thing....LOL!)

We were able to make it to the last home game
and the seniors were recognized.
A proud Mama moment for sure!

O.K. Friends.
What are YOU making this week???

Monday Making with scraps of flannel

What are you up to this week?

I spent time with this face ALL weekend!
What a pleasure.

Grandma had just a LITTLE bit of fun with the camera!!!
;)

You wouldn't know it from that happy face....

but she tends to spit up QUITE a bit.
Burp cloths are a necessity.

My flannel scraps came in handy!!!

So happy to have ALL the supplies ready to GO!!!

These burp cloths are NOT uniform.
Oh no.
They were constructed with WHATEVER size scrap I had on hand.

And I DO have SCRAPS of flannel!!!

Oh YES I do!!
How about you???

I made these little cloths VERY quickly...
I wanted to HOLD that dear face as MUCH as possible!!
Sewing and holding are not compatible activities!!!
LOL!

Link up and share about what YOU are making this week.

Monday Making

Meet the newest member of my family!!
Born last week.
Healthy mom. Healthy baby. HAPPY grandma!

WhatEVER I make this week will revolve around HER...
and in between I'll add a few more stitches to THIS:

I've been carrying this scarf around with me.
It's knit back and forth with only a couple of thoughtful stitches at each end.
;)
I say THOUGHTFUL because I DO have to think..
and when I CAN'T think...
I look at that index card attached to the bottom there
and remind myself of the SUPER simple pattern.
LOL!!!
Pattern found here at Purl soho.

What are you making this week??
Link up and share.

Because I love you sewing

Many times we are sewing for the love of sewing.
And then there are the times
we are sewing because we love someone.
This week it was ALL "I love you sewing"!!!

First the diapers.
Whew!!!
What a project!

The diapers were fiddly.
Not sure how many more I'll make.
It WAS nice to sew with my daughter who's in town!
She made a dress and I slaved away on the diapers.
;)

I also threw together a nursing poncho.
SUPER simple project!!
Yeah for EASY!!

This monster wasn't so simple.
IT's a BIG 'ol football flag.
4'x6'
Yikes!

My son thinks I can do anything......
In NO TIME at all.
They need it next week.
LOL!!!

Last, but not least, I made some bunting for the baby shower.
Another simple "I love you" project.

Sanity sewing is on the agenda NEXT week!!!

It's the little things

There were quite a few Things in the last few days
that I put in the
"Happy things"
category.
I often call them simple pleasures.

Life is FULL of them.
It's not the BIG things for me.
IT's the little things that give me GREAT pleasure.

For example....

Cutting tumblers and then...

finishing UP the last row of the quilt!!

Yeah!

Playing with NEW YARN at my daughter's dance class.
;)

Finding this PAPER QUILT at her school in the hallway.
LOVE it!

Teaching a class on HAND piecing
and having all the students complete a little coaster
using 2" squares.
;)

It was a great way to introduce sewing on a small scale.

Getting to spend TIME with my daughter who lives far away.

O.K.
Spending time with far away family is NOT a little thing...
It's BIG.
AND...
IT put a BIG smile on my FACE!!

A new friend

A new friend arrived this week.
I'm spending some time getting to know her as sew up little stars. ;)
It will take lots of little stars to make a quilt.
Lots of time to get "Friendly" with my new to me machine.
I'm still trying to process the fact that my third child is now married!
Sewing will help my mind wrap around the fact that I'm not 20 something years old anymore and my kids are! :)

Wedding work

My daughter's wedding is Saturday.....so I thought is pull put the unfinished wedding quilt and add some rows. ;)

It takes the whole floor to work on this baby!

I'm thinking happy thoughts as I sew.
I'm gaining another super son-in-law.

Counting my blessings today.

Wedding quilt will not be complete by Saturday.
It'll get done when it's done....
And that's o.k.

After all....
There have been other wedding things to work on.

Center pieces (43!)

Backdrop.......

The list goes on.

I'll sew just a little bit more and then I'm going to soak up all the festivities!

Be back soon with pictures!

Wedding Shower Homemade

We had a Wedding shower!
:)
Still SHOCKED that my THIRD child is about to get married!

Pompom balls were made using balloons and coffee filters.
Cloth napkins were made using my stash.  ;)
Cookies were Painstakingly painted/frosted and bagged by a friend.
Little tiny succulent gardens were made.
Photos were tied onto balloons for a FESTIVE look!

Hey!
Even my dress is HOMEMADE!
:)

CREDITS:
Most of the HOMEMADE stuff was NOT made by ME.
;)
I DO appreciate HOMEMADE though.
Don't you?
And...
thankful others in my family do TOO!!!

I can only take credit for the dress
and a few napkins.

Technology and a Twin bed

This week has been a FULL week of new technology challenges.
:)

It all began with a new phone.

There were so many places to explore.
Instagram....youtube....the iphone WORLD!!!

But...
I managed to get a quilt together!

It was an easy and quick quilt to make...
AND....it's all done.

It's even a respectable TWIN size!
60"x80"

All I did for this quilt was cut 12" strips from the fabrics.
(selvage to selvage)
Then...I cut them into random chunks.

I lined the chunks up in rows 60" long wide
They're all 12" tall.

sewed the chunks in rows....then....
pinned and got rows together!!!

It took 7 rows to make it long enough.

My granddaughter has a BIG bed now
and I needed something ASAP to cover her up.
:)

beginnings

Saw this Yesterday.
A quote and photo
from my daughter on facebook:

"I sat down at my sewing machine today
and accidentally started quilting -
It must be in my genes."

I think she's off to a GRAND beginning.
;)

Springtime

It's springtime and things are blooming over here.
I've always wanted a little fairy garden...
and this year it FINALLY happened. :)

It's little.
The plants are just clippings I found around the yard.
I plopped them in and they've been growing.
YEAH!

I enjoyed sitting out on the patio today
Knitting and
watching my granddaughter play
in the little GARDEN for fairies!
