Freedom Quilt

Putting these blocks together is the PERFECT way (I think)
to celebrate this time of year here in the U.S.

Thanks to everyone who sent blocks to be included.
MOST of the blocks are here......
There are a few more that will be puzzled into a SECOND quilt!
They will be quilted and bound
and then sent off to the wounded warrior project.

Isn't it beautiful???
I love it!

Lover's Links

My favorite kind of quilt to make is improvisational,
Scrappy and UN-planned.
THIS is NOT that quilt.
LOL!

Every once in a while I step out of my comfort zone
and follow a pattern.
This time...
my points didn't get TOO lost
and the seams cooperated with me!

I had some binding suggestions last week
from quilting friends....
and ended up with YELLOW!!

Not what I THOUGHT I was going to use...
but that's what POPPED out
when I was digging around here for something.
;)
And I think it makes this quilt a little BRIGHTER and happier!

I'm very happy with my quilt!

I used reproduction fabrics PLUS other things I thought fit in.
My method is.....
USE what YOU have!

Pattern from an old McCalls magazine (august 2000).
Google lover's links images
and you'll find a host of others.

Thoughts on Labels

Another quilt is quilted.
WHEW!!!!
This one was a biggy!!!
Please remind me to say "NO" when asked to make
a queen sized monster....o.k.???

I wanted to get this labeled and OFF quickly...
but found out this past week
that my handy dandy label pens are not holding up!!!

When I spied this quilt last week I noticed
the print on the label I had written had all WASHED away!!
EEeeeK!!!

I did a little research thinking maybe I'd buy some
pre-printed labels for future quilts.
They are almost $1 a piece.
(maybe YOU know a good source???)

I began to brainstorm!

I have a quilting/darning foot....

and I have DARK thread!!!

I made one myself.
It's my first try...so don't be too hard on me.....;)

I figure my stitching will probably last longer than
the pens I had been using!!!!

And my Dad who's getting this one...
won't care that my penmanship is not
TOP notch! ;)

I used freezer paper on the back and peeled it off.
DON'T do that.
In the future I will use an interfacing.
;)

After attaching this label...
We're going to eat!!!

One of my favorite simple recipes....
Cheeseburger pie!!!

I split the meat in half ....
Double the recipe....
and sneak in some zucchini!!!
I'm always trying to find places to put THAT!!!

The quilt is quilted and bound.
The label is DONE.
And dinner AWAITS!
;)

Home Again

While I was gone at camp with the family...
I had a little time to sew.
During FREE time I pieced this blue star.
It's the beginning of a queen sized quilt
for a family member who requested blue.
LOTS of people like blue quilts
and my STASH is PROOF!!
The blues are getting mighty THIN!!!
:)
A GREAT reason to shop for more...
wouldn't you say????

During the meetings at camp I worked on quilting this baby quilt.

I was able to get QUITE a few 16 patches done....
I'll go back later and fill in the white sashing.
Probably NOT the correct way to do it...
But....
It made it easier to FOCUS on the conference..
and not fret about stitching lines.
;)

Sitting RIGHT next to me was an expectant mom
who may receive this one IF she has a girl!!!

She admired it...
and I had fun imagining her baby using it
as I stitched AWAY!!!

I had planned on using light GREEN embroidery floss on this one...
but didn't like it AT. ALL. when I began using it.

The white quilting thread is JUST right...
and I'm so happy I had it packed!!!

Sometimes what you THINK will work....
Doesn't.
I'm learning to be FLEXIBLE.
;)

Blast from the past.

This quilt is home now.
It's been away for THREE years with my daughter at school.
It's a soft and old fashioned looking quilt.

They're both home now for a while.
I DID wonder if this soft quilt would
hold up to college dorm life!

It DID!
You can see I used what I had......
Even the whites are not all the same.
I LOVE the challenge of USING what I have
when making quilts!
'Cause I have a LOT.
;/

I used the bigger pieces on the back.

My daughter must like this quilt....
She's still using it!
:)
