Baby Quilt Label - new design

I'm giving this baby quilt away Saturday
and wanted a NEW label!
So I sat down and did some BRAINstorming
and came up with this one.

Isn't it CUTE??

I added this design to a pattern I already have listed on craftsy.

It was tricky REWORKING the pattern to add this design.
WOWsers!
Technology is SO over my HEAD!
:/
I'm SURE I do things the HARD way...
not knowing enough to do it the easy way!

I will go back and add my name to this label
with a fabric marker over on the side
now that the pattern photo shoot is over.
;)

Can't believe the label is on
and the baby shower is a WHOLE 4 days away!!!!

Quilt Label

I wanted an embroidered quilt label pattern.
I've seen some recently
and wanted to add that SPECIAL touch to my baby quilts.

After looking around this WIDE, wide world of
computer generated information.....
I came up empty handed.

I couldn't find EXACTLY what I was looking for.
What was I looking for???
I wasn't sure.
But I knew I wasn't finding "IT"!

Ever have that happen?

Well....I decided

to make it myself.

 :)

I even put it all together in pattern form here.

Thoughts on Labels

Another quilt is quilted.
WHEW!!!!
This one was a biggy!!!
Please remind me to say "NO" when asked to make
a queen sized monster....o.k.???

I wanted to get this labeled and OFF quickly...
but found out this past week
that my handy dandy label pens are not holding up!!!

When I spied this quilt last week I noticed
the print on the label I had written had all WASHED away!!
EEeeeK!!!

I did a little research thinking maybe I'd buy some
pre-printed labels for future quilts.
They are almost $1 a piece.
(maybe YOU know a good source???)

I began to brainstorm!

I have a quilting/darning foot....

and I have DARK thread!!!

I made one myself.
It's my first try...so don't be too hard on me.....;)

I figure my stitching will probably last longer than
the pens I had been using!!!!

And my Dad who's getting this one...
won't care that my penmanship is not
TOP notch! ;)

I used freezer paper on the back and peeled it off.
DON'T do that.
In the future I will use an interfacing.
;)

After attaching this label...
We're going to eat!!!

One of my favorite simple recipes....
Cheeseburger pie!!!

I split the meat in half ....
Double the recipe....
and sneak in some zucchini!!!
I'm always trying to find places to put THAT!!!

The quilt is quilted and bound.
The label is DONE.
And dinner AWAITS!

the finishing touch

Everytime I finish a quilt I TRY to sew a small label on it. This is my label KIT. It includes: small pieces of wax paper (that can be used a few times), small pieces of white or off-white fabric, fabric pens and two books that I use for inspiration.

First, I iron a piece of wax paper on the back of the fabric. This helps steady the fabric while I write the words and draw my little picture.

After my picture and message are complete I turn the edges under and whip-stitch it on. This quilt is the hexagon that I finished a couple of weeks ago. Why did I wait until the night before giving it away to make the label?

These labels are usually very simple...the name of the person or persons receiving the quilt, a date and a little DOODLE around that. I like to use curvy lines, leaves and flowers using dots. Very simple! Of course, it's always a good idea to put YOUR name too. :)
