Scrappy baskets

I'm always drawn to basket quilts.
Aren't you?
This is my very first block of a new quilt!

It all began while I was away.

I took TWO important things on my camping trip.
A BIG bag of scraps...
and a phone book.
;)

First...
I pulled out some colors I liked.

Then I began sewing them onto paper triangles.

Now that I'm home...
I can make some small half square triangles
with my small scrappy squares.........
and Make a WHOLE BUNCH of baskets!!!

I love beginnings!

done.

You all know I like that word.
DONE.
I'm so happy with my little quilt.
So happy that Sujata challenged us all to dream.
It's even quilted!
You know, quilting little quilts really doesn't take that long.
You've just got to sit down and DO IT!!
I stippled all that white background
closer together than I normally do.
Wow!! It sure takes a lot of thread!!

I used brown wavy lines in the baskets.
I like that part!

Can you see the vine with leaves in the green borders
and the little three petal doo-dad in the triangles?

Well.
I had fun playing with some quilting on this one.
:)

Here's the back.
Not too exciting, but no one's going to be seeing this side.;)
I used an old piece of heavy weight fabric.
I thought it might hang better.
We'll see.

I cooked enough yesterday.
I ate enough yesterday.
I cleaned enough yesterday......

After putting these away...
I'm going to quilt!!!

leaves

I finally added leaves to my little basket quilt.
The lonely berries....
REJOICED!!!!

not there yet.

I'm getting somewhere on this little quilt...
but I'm surely not there yet!!
Those berries look awfully lonely, huh?
They are.
I was thankful to have another window of opportunity today...
A meeting!!!
The perfect time to do some hand applique.
The berries were ready to go.
I was raring to go....
and the meeting was suitably l-o-n-g.

Then I thought I'd share a couple of pictures
just to make it REAL.
This is how I think.
Paper leaves and applique laying down there.
As I ponder.....

Hmmmm.
Wonder if I'll use that blue and pink???
Is that red the right shade??
Maybe I'll add a bright center to those flowers....
The questions keep coming....
The ol' quilting brain keeps ticking.
Keeps my mind clear of those pesky distractions.
You know....
dishes, laundry, dinner decisions......

berries

Before appliqueing berries on a quilt...
You have to make a few berries.
Making berries is (in my humble opinion)
mindless, boring work...
UNLESS...
You have someone to gab with.
Thankfully I had that today. :)

Thank you, cousin.
I am almost ready to put some berries and
flowers in my baskets!!
ooooh!
I can't wait!!!

tuesday.

Four scrappy baskets are finished.
The question now is....
what will I put in them?
Or around them?
Or between them?

The questions keep coming.....

The possibilities are endless....

Instead of goofing around with baskets, though...
I have a deadline.
A church banner deadline.

This is taking up space on my living room floor
while I plot and plan.....
I bought 3 yards of heavy weight upholstery fabric.
I bought 3 yards of sparkly black netting to lay on top.
Also 3 yards for the backing.
My paper plans are laying on top.
A star.
Some letters (rejoice).
Today I'm going to begin to figure out how to put these
pieces together and maybe even add some more
sparkling lights in that night sky!!!

Hopefully this will be a really pretty banner...
A not too gaudy banner.....
A Sparkly banner.....
that will hang well before Christmas!!!

basket time

The quilting is done.

The binding is on....
almost.

The back is nice and textured.

The lines are nice and wonky...
wobbly....
wonderful!!!!
I did have to rip out yesterday and sort of straighten out
a few lines around the words.
They were very hard for me to eye-ball.

After reading jacquie's blog this morning
I now have a name for these straight lines that aren't marked.
organic line quilting!!
I'm happy to be soooo close to the finish line.
Just the binding now to finish off.
woo hoo!!!
I've got so many other quilts calling my name!!
I'll add this to amy's sew and tell today.

can't put this down.

I began quilting this yesterday
and I can't put it down!!!

This is my liberated amish basket quilt.
I've already begun quilting the third basket out of 16!
I did not mark this quilt.
I'm just following along with the piecing.

Wow!
This big old fashioned quilt stitch goes fast!!

I looked and looked for some smaller weight perle cotton...
I was patient...(amazing but true)...
and finally found some 20 weight thread at
Hobby Lobby when I was visiting my daughter.
YEAH!

Love the back!!!
I'm using wool batting.

And I'm definitely enjoying myself as I quilt away!!

I'll add this to Amy's show and tell...
then I'll go around and see what everyone else
has been up too!!
I'm always inspired!!

houses & baskets

V over at Bumble Beans is collecting!
How many houses do you think she'll get?
I've only made 3 and the first one is a little small....
so I may have to keep that in my orphan block drawer.
These were fun to make...but,
I didn't read the directions well enough....:(
She said we could use any color.
OOPS!
I thought I was supposed to use the same colors!

I've decided that important jobs belong to someone else.
I'm forever missing those little details!

I think that's why I like quilting so much!
If I make a mistake....I can just go with it!

Then I got these baskets together
for my Liberated Amish quilt.

I'm now going to think about borders and words!
No rush!
Isn't quilting fun?
