Small finishes

This is the time of year we MAKERS
do a lot of MAKING!
I've been doing a little bit of this
and....
a little bit of THAT.

I love the colors in this small potholder...
Don't you?

That center spot of color POPS inside the soft blue!

This table runner has been in my MIND
for quite a while now.

I wanted to merge some silver sparkly yarn
as the warp
and weave SOMETHING into it.

The question was WHAT color??

I finally decided on this soft greenish gray cotton.

It is a simple blend of color.
Soft and serene.

Weaving is sort of like knitting.
Peaceful and contemplative.
Just right during this busy season.

This table runner is now in my etsy shop.

Putting scraps to good use

Life is GOOD.....
when there are enough scraps to cover the GUEST bed

AND....
enough left in the scrap basket

To weave a GIFT!!

Yes,
Life is GOOD when there are PLENTY of scraps!!!

Scrap quilt made a few years ago using 2" squares.
It was QUITE an accomplishment for me to
make it QUEEN sized!!
As I was speading it out today...
I thought..
"maybe I could make another???"
Crazy thought!!!!

I made the table runner this week for an upcoming wedding.
I LOVE all the color in this one.
AND...
It goes so nicely with all the spring flowers that are filling my garden beds.

Wonderful Weaving

Between family life....
Quilting life....
and
everyday life...
I've been weaving.

I had this bag on the loom when a special order came in.
:)

I loved using a LOT of gray
PLUS
some blues and browns to make this little "hippie bag".

After the bag was complete...
I wove two table runners.
I DO love weaving these.
There's TEXTURE,
color,
and MORE TEXTURE!!!

Just for fun...
Here's a picture of my loom and me
Weaving on a recent camping adventure.

That's another thing I love about weaving.
The loom doesn't need ELECTRICITY.

I can take it anywhere!!!

Leftovers

I just finished a  new table runner.
wee bit late for
Thanksgiving dinner.
;)

It's already time to CLEAN up the fall decor.

But that didn't stop me from making a
FALL colored table runner.

I'm going to call it my LEFTOVERS runner.

Kind of like making turkey soup with the leftover meat.
These are the scraps of fabric
leftover from my quilts.

At least fabric scraps don't go BAD!!!
They are ALWAYS good to GO!!!

Blue

While the loom was out.....

I made another table runner.

Blue and white.
It looks SO pretty with the blue tinted jar!
All I need are some FLOWERS IN the jar!

Friends:
It is NOT hard to MAKE these woven table runners.

It is hard to STOP making them!!!

;)

Made this for my daughter.
Used my 24" rigid heddle table loom.
1 1/2" strips of cotton were cut and used in construction.
IF the strip was ALREADY about 1 1/2"...
I did NOT trim.
Nothing is EXACT-ly done at my house!
Lots of what I call "uglies" were used.
I DO have quite a BIT of that kind of fabric.
;/

Is it really October?
My goal this year was to use ONLY fabric that I own.
The months have been FLYING by
and there is NOT a DENT anywhere!

weaving strings

My loom gets ALMOST as much time as my sewing machine.

It's a peaceful way to deal with scraps!

I dug around in my Christmas fabrics....

and added some bright green.

I DO love GREEN!

Woven in color

Before cleaning up after my BAG making adventure...
I thought I'd weave up ONE more item.

I love the colors in this table runner!

Wish I had some FIESTAware to set on top!
My plates are an ALLpurpose WHITE.
;/

Love the texture in this!
All the bumps and lumps!

I've just listed this one in my shop
;)

By the way...
I realized that it was
my 4 year blogging Anniversary yesterday!
Time FLIES when you're having FUN!

Love creating.
Love blabbering blogging about it!

Wonderful weaving

I've been doing some weaving.
What fun!

This one's for a friend.

This soft and cool runner is for the shop.

The colors feel like a calm day at the ocean.
;)
and.....

My latest fabric acquisition.
(hand me down fabric....the BEST kind!!!)
;)
TONS of this ONE fabric!!!

Thin. Gauzy. unfit for quilts.
hmmmm....
How will it work in the loom????

I added lots of little leftover tshirt parts....
This one is FRESH off the loom.

You can tell I need to do some finishing work on the ends there.
Oooh!
 I love the TEXTURE!!!

Should I make a bag????
I think I might.
Gotta go figure out HOW!!!
;)

You asked

Some of you wondered about my loom.
You wondered what the process looks like.
This one's for YOU!
;)

This is the cotton crotchet thread I used this time.
A nice varigated green/blue/tan.

I warp it onto my loom
following the simple instructions
in the little book that came with my loom.

I began at the end with a small bit of cream crotchet thread.
I think it gives my table runner a nice finish.
I ended with the same.

The comb there is used to push the yarn/thread tighter
as I go along.

The picture above shows the loom resting on my knees
as it leans against the table.
I could buy a stand....
but this takes up LESS space in my home this way.
;)

Then..... I make my RAG YARN.
1 1/4" strips of fabric.

I make a whole bunch!
Lots of greens, tans and whites were chosen.
I sew them together to make
a LONG piece of "YARN".
As I run out...
I make some more!
;)
I wrap it around my shuttle
folding in half as I go.

In and out
Back and forth.
Pushing each row down as I go....

That's weaving in a nutshell.

This is the beautiful results!

I LOVE it!

Red and White Love

Scraps and I....

we understand each other.
Perfectly.

They are so UN-Demanding!!!

Just the kind of fabric I LIKE!

I thought February was the perfect time
to put some reds and whites together.

While camping this weekend
I took my loom along
and had LOTS of loving thoughts
about
SCRAPS!!!
;)
