Putting scraps to good use

Life is GOOD.....
when there are enough scraps to cover the GUEST bed

AND....
enough left in the scrap basket

To weave a GIFT!!

Yes,
Life is GOOD when there are PLENTY of scraps!!!

Scrap quilt made a few years ago using 2" squares.
It was QUITE an accomplishment for me to
make it QUEEN sized!!
As I was speading it out today...
I thought..
"maybe I could make another???"
Crazy thought!!!!

I made the table runner this week for an upcoming wedding.
I LOVE all the color in this one.
AND...
It goes so nicely with all the spring flowers that are filling my garden beds.

Little bits of scrappy

I mentioned yesterday that I haven't been buying much fabric these days
I have quite a bit.
;)
Well...this week I did buy some.
Just a little.

I happened to be at the Post Office.
The Post office shares a parking lot with the local quilt shop.
One thing led to the other.
Isn't that the way it goes???

I went into the quilt shop to buy a charm pack.
A charm pack is NOT QUITE buying fabric....Is it?
Well...
the Quilt shop had NO charm packs!
I love beginning baby quilts with charm packs.
They always get my creative juices going!

I couldn't leave the quilt shop without buying anything.
I bought 1/2 yard of cute owl fabric
and
1/2 yard of a coordinating fabric.

I first cut the new fabric into 5" charms.
(1/2 yard yields twenty-four 5" charms)

Then I started adding scraps.....

Teeny tiny 2" scraps.

The scrap blocks are made using a 2" colored square.
TWO 2" white squares
and
TWO 2"x5" white strips.

Put together they fit perfectly with 5" charms.

SO.
I DID use a little BIT of my stash.
I DID support the quilt industry by buying some fabric.
and
I DID have FUN doing it!

I was ALSO able to MATCH my quilt
to my NEWEST quilted baby cap!!!

What a WIN. WIN. kind of DAY!

Stepping stones

Haven't shared about a finished quilt recently
on this QUILTING blog!
This little number is now complete....
Ready for the next BABY!!!

It started with a small charm pack.
There were only 23 charms
so I needed to add a few 5" squares of my own.
Not. a. problem.

I also added LOTS of 2" squares.
Again...
NOT a problem.
;)

I am now OFFICIALLY OUT
of white fabric.
I think I'll BUY a BOLT!!

Charmed

Bought this SWEET little pack of charms.

You know..
and I know...
It's DANGEROUS walking into a quilt shop!
**Even getting NEAR a quilt shop
can be hazardous
to your pocket book!

These little packs don't cost too much
and they always get me GOING
on a NEW scrappy quilt!!!!
So...
If I'm going to buy something...
It's usually one of these SWEET little Lovelies!

I'm adding 2" squares
(from the scrap drawer)
and some white.

Finding out that not ALL my 2" scrappy squares
are 2"!!!!!

Some are 2 1/4"!!
EASY to fix THAT one!!!

As long as I FIX before SEWING it UP!!!!
 After it's ALL sewn up...
It's NOT so easy!!!
LOL!

Squares

My love affair with squares continues.
I will never get tired of the SIMPLE square.

Pieced some 2" lovelies together yesterday.

Found some gifted fabric
that will make a HAPPY quilt.

Squared up my 16 patches to 6 1/2".
Yeah!
They just needed a LITTLE trimming!

Cut some 6 1/2" squares from that FUN fabric.

Quickly cut 2 1/2" squares out of the leftover piece on the right.

Put them IMMEDIATELY into the 2 1/2" drawer....
READY for the next time I need 2 1/2"

Loving the process of sewing as I admire my blocks!
They watch me from the floor as I work.

Stacks of Blocks are Piling up.
2" of mostly OLD fabric
joining
the NEW 6 1/2" HAPPY fabric!!!

If you look REALLY close
you might even see 2" of Christmas!
:)

Raise your hand.
Did you see any hands???

Today I've decided that 2 inches
TRANSFORMs!!!

My fun quilt went from this.....

to THIS!!!!

I LOVE what those 2" squares
of scrappy happiness
do for this quilt!!!

And LOOK!!!

I've got LOTS leftover
to TRANSFORM my NEXT quilt!!!!

Quilting on the go!

Aren't those stitches pretty?
I love simple cross hatching.
Since the squares are only 2"...
I was able to "eye-ball" the stitching lines.
Another PLUS in MY book!
I hand quilted this
and took it everywhere I WENT this summer!

I almost finished hand stitching the binding
at swimming lessons today!
YEP!
I fit quilting in WHEREVER I go!
;)
Since it's been so hot here...
I was really wishing I was the student in THAT POOL
Instead of the MOM with the QUILT on her LAP!!!!
LOL!!!

This is sure a SWEET quilt!
I can't deny these colors make me HAPPY!

The nice tangerine backing and green binding
are favorites of mine TOO!!!

Since this quilt HAS been traveling,
it's acquired a couple of little "spots".
I hope they come out with some soap and water.
Otherwise.....
This Sweet little treasure just might end up
BEING  MINE!!!!

with my charm squares.
