Stepping stones

Haven't shared about a finished quilt recently

on this QUILTING blog!

This little number is now complete....

Ready for the next BABY!!!

 

It started with a small charm pack.

There were only 23 charms

so I needed to add a few 5" squares of my own.

Not. a. problem.

I also added LOTS of 2" squares.

Again...

NOT a problem.

;)

I am now OFFICIALLY OUT

of white fabric.

I think I'll BUY a BOLT!!

 

 

 

How to

A couple of you asked for some instruction on this block.

 

I'm using a charm pack

and LOTS of little 2" scraps.

 

It begins here.

2" little squares

and

 a couple of 2" x 3 1/2" strips of white.

 

You can see I've added some of the dimensions

on the picture...

but I got frustrated with "paint" on the computer

and left some BLANK.

:/

I'm SURE there's a BETTER way!

Technology and I have NEVER been

BEST FRIENDS!

 

When sewn together it should measure 5".

I ALWAYS need to trim mine a bit!

Here you go!

It's always nice to add some SPICE to a charm pack!

 

The white strips between are all 5" x 2"

Here's my block.

It should measure 11".

 

There are a myriad of ways YOU could use this block.

This is how I think I'll be piecing mine together.

 

See how I'm adding more 5" x 2" strips

and 2" scraps

between blocks???

Did you notice the blue cutting board on TOP of the green???

It's time for a NEW cutting board!!!!

 

I LOVE my BIG green one.

the BLUE one is not big enough for ME!!

 

Do you think I might do a little sewing???

Charmed

Bought this SWEET little pack of charms.

 

You know..

and I know...

It's DANGEROUS walking into a quilt shop!

**Even getting NEAR a quilt shop

can be hazardous

to your pocket book!

 

These little packs don't cost too much

and they always get me GOING

on a NEW scrappy quilt!!!!

So...

If I'm going to buy something...

It's usually one of these SWEET little Lovelies!

I'm adding 2" squares

(from the scrap drawer)

and some white.

 

Finding out that not ALL my 2" scrappy squares

are 2"!!!!!

 

Some are 2 1/4"!!

EASY to fix THAT one!!!

 

As long as I FIX before SEWING it UP!!!!

 After it's ALL sewn up...

It's NOT so easy!!!

LOL!

Baby quilt thoughts

I love making baby quilts!

They are....I think...my favorite kind of quilt to make!

 

I love using charm packs.....

but....

 there aren't always enough "charms".

It's fairly simple to add some blocks.

See the three sort of solids on the left???

They are filling in for me.

I don't think anyone will ever "suspect"

they don't "go with" the quilt.

;)

Do you?

I love adding little tiny 2" squares.

This black and white with pins was LONELY in my 2" drawer....

It will be......

Lonely NO MORE!!!!

Don't you think It fits perfectly into this quilt!

 

That reminds me..... I need to sit down one of these days

and just CUT squares (out of scraps)

to replenish my 2", 2 1/2", 3"....etc. drawers.

 

Pickin's have been slim lately!

Here is a faithful friend!

A bed sheet.

It was Found at a thrift store a while back.

This friend seems to pop up in quite a few of my projects!!!!

In fact.....

I used it just yesterday making my apron ties!!!

 

Today it became binding!

Red and white check will ALWAYS be welcome in MY quilts!!!!

See that backing??

I bought quite a bit of this gingham last year.

I LOVE it!!!!

And.....

Only two yards left!

When quilting straight lines.....

I've found that quilting on the diagonal/bias

is MUCH easier than quilting straight across.

The bias is very forgiving!!!!

And I, for one,....need that!

 

I have issues with my straight quilting lines....

but never seem to have them when I quilt

DIAGONALLY!!!

O.k.

I Think those are all my "thoughts" on this quilt.

Except to say.....

I can't WAIT to give it away!!!!

 

That's the best part of making a QUILT!!!!

An Early Celebration!

I'm a little surprised that there are almost 500 people

willing to listen to me .....BLAB....about quilting....sewing...life...etc.

I received some NEW fabric

and I can't wait to GIVE it AWAY!

So......EVEN though I don't have 500 followers YET....

I'm going to celebrate with YOU!!!
