It's so nice to finish a quilt top!

Little projects are fun...

but the BIG ones really make me HAPPY!

This quilt has been my camping project.

Every trip I did a few blocks....

or maybe only ONE.

;)

After spring break last week

I knew I was CLOSE enough to finish!!!

I brought it home and got to work!

Scraps for this one include some oldies but goodies....

AND....

some strange creatures.

Hah!

2" squares are so FUN!

I will say though....they ARE a challenge to put together.

They need to be CUT exactly

and that 1/4" seam better be 1/4"  or ELSE!!!

Can you tell I had some struggles?

I had planned on setting the blocks like this.

Plans change.

After doing some re-arranging........

(which is the FUN part, by the way)

I decided on THIS arrangement.

Yeah for a finished quilt top!!!

How to

A couple of you asked for some instruction on this block.

 

I'm using a charm pack

and LOTS of little 2" scraps.

 

It begins here.

2" little squares

and

 a couple of 2" x 3 1/2" strips of white.

 

You can see I've added some of the dimensions

on the picture...

but I got frustrated with "paint" on the computer

and left some BLANK.

:/

I'm SURE there's a BETTER way!

Technology and I have NEVER been

BEST FRIENDS!

 

When sewn together it should measure 5".

I ALWAYS need to trim mine a bit!

Here you go!

It's always nice to add some SPICE to a charm pack!

 

The white strips between are all 5" x 2"

Here's my block.

It should measure 11".

 

There are a myriad of ways YOU could use this block.

This is how I think I'll be piecing mine together.

 

See how I'm adding more 5" x 2" strips

and 2" scraps

between blocks???

Did you notice the blue cutting board on TOP of the green???

It's time for a NEW cutting board!!!!

 

I LOVE my BIG green one.

the BLUE one is not big enough for ME!!

This now measures 64"x82"

Not QUITE big enough!!

If I add these it will be 82" square.

STILL....

not big enough!!!

I think I can find some more 2"x2" scraps around here....

getting along

My 2" scraps seem to be getting along with me this week!!!

Is it because they know Christmas is right around the corner???

Their little seams are matching up so nicely!!

I think the reason MIGHT be this little machine!!

She sews along so sweetly.

I'm also being a little more careful to

use a SCANT 1/4" seam.

Maybe that helps...but....

I'm going to give my little featherweight

ALL the CREDIT!!!

I was ACTUALLY getting LOW on 2" scraps!!

Can you believe it??

I cut some more today....

and hope that....

This quilt grows to be

TWIN size sometime real soon!!!!

red and green

When I began this quilt....

I thought I might...possibly....use it for Christmas someday.

That day has not arrived.

This is another one of my 2" trouble quilts!!

Thankfully there's lots of green.

So.........

I've decided those seams are just NOT going to match!

From a distance you can't really tell....

Can you??

I'm going to move on with my life....

I'll leave these 2" blocks where they are.

Finish this quilt.

Say goodbye trouble!

I played with this dinosaur last night.

CALICOS!!!!

I went looking for something in my orphan box...

saw these....

couldn't find what I'd been looking for....

Did a little sewing!!

Minutes (seconds?) later I had this!!

I told you I'm the queen of hand-me-downs. ;)
Here's some more proof.

I bet these blocks are SOOOO happy to be free!!

And I was happy to rescue them!!!

Now what to add for a border???

I like the pink,

but I don't want a pink quilt!!!

While I thought about that I made

a couple more 16 patches for my

never ending project here!!

I make a few.

Put it away.

Make a few more.

Etc.

I'm going to love this quilt......

but I've learned something about 2" squares.

They don't play nice.

Sew them carefully into little 16 patches

and they immediately

transform

into misshapen masses.

(I'm exaggerating just a wee bit)

Not the lovely squares I imagined!!!

I'm going to WIN though!

I'm not going to let these little 2" monsters

get the BEST of ME!!!!
