Monday making

After a LONG sit...
this quilt finally got the border it had been waiting for!!!

Poor thing.
It had to stay folded up in the quilt top pile while I
CONTEMPLATED.
I contemplated a VERY long time.

Eventually....
I decided....... I just had to GET 'ER DONE!!
Yesterday was the day.
It was a BEAUTIFUL Saturday to sew!
There was NO place I needed to be
and the house was relatively clean.

Quilting her will be another BIG project!

I'll probably wait a bit since I JUST finished quilting this one...
my scrappy tumbler quilt.

I am So excited to USE THIS QUILT!
but first...

I'm remembering that hand sewing binding
on a queen sized quilt is NOT FAST!!!
;)
and...
It's kind of BORING.
LOL!

What are YOU making this week???

monday making

Spring is HERE!!
It was the perfect week to go camping!!!
and ....
I had the perfect project!!

This is an old old quilt that needs some hand quilting.
Someone a LONG long time ago began ....
I will FINISH!!!
My spring break camping trip seemed like
the perfect time to work on this beauty.

;)

This old quilt stole my heart when she was gifted to me.
I love her imperfect patchwork.
I love her color - oranges and blues with some red!
I love ALL her vintage fabrics!!!

What are you making this week???
Maybe you're finishing someone else's work like me......????

Friday

The little quilt I showed on Monday is quilted!
I'm always super happy when a project is all DONE!
(That means I can give it AWAY!
The BEST part about quilting!)

This quilt is FULL of  happy scraps.
Some of these scraps have been waiting a LONG time
to be included....

Just a FEW of the little pieces that
NEEDED to be in a quilt!

Such sweet vintage fabric.

Since Ms. Juki was unavailable this week....
little Miss Featherweight did the quilting.
She buzzed right along like it was NO PROBLEM!

"A friend in need is a friend indeed".
Miss Featherweight proved her worth this week.

Facts on Friday

Fact #1
It takes a REALLY long time to cut tumblers
using a plastic acrylic template.

Fact #2
Vintage fabric makes a good jumping OFF place
for any kind of scrap quilt.

This quilt began with vintage
and ended with whatever I could find
that kind of blended in!

Fact #3
Hand me downs + STASH = FREE quilt

Friday Finish

I was able to sew this week!
Digging through scraps and sewing little strips together
suits me JUST fine.
;)

This little vintage strip here is really the inspiration for the whole quilt.
That  ONE little tiny, PRECIOUS scrap
DROVE this quilt.
LOVE all that color.

Mid week....when I was working away at sewing strips together
I recieved another LITTLE bunch of vintage fabric
and it contained JUST the RIGHT blue
to fill this quilt out.

BELIEVE it or NOT...
I have PLENTY of fabric here...
but cutting into yardage kind of defeats the purpose
in a little scrap quilt like this!

Crazy logic???

This polka dot backing is just perfect.
I'm a frugal quilter.
This polka dot was a sheet in it's former life.
OOOh!
I love giving cotton fabric a second LIFE!!

Strips/strings used in this quilt were 10" tall
and in the top row they are 7" tall.
You might also notice I pieced some strings.
Can't let ANYTHING go to waste!
:)

Quilt measures 40"x44"

Have a great weekend friends!

Pile of Paws!

I now a have very respectable PILE!
Yippee!!
Maybe, JUST maybe, I have enough!

I've been laying them out.
This way...
That way....
I've almost decided they'll be on point.
That means....
What fabric will I fill in the corners???

While I'm deciding that....
I'll just admire all the pretty vintage blocks!!!

Each block contains 4 squares of vintage fabric.
They're ALL different!

In each block I used a solid that is also old, vintage fabric.
The bear paw block has points.
The points came out of my scraps...
so they're the only part of the block
that is NOT old!
Ooh! The center block is also from
my stash!

I loved digging around here for some
complimentary POINTS
and that little center square!!!
;)

Old and NEW together.
Love. it.

One more

One more block....
.
for this quilt that's growing!
How big will it get???
Queen sized??
I sure hope so!!!
One block at a time.....

I pulled out my bear's paw quilt
because I received a nice package of vintage fabric
from Carol.

It's just what I wanted to add to my quilt!

This blue is ESPECIALLY nice!

Hmmmm...
I'm also loving this print!

And aren't these lovely??

Carol's fabric came at just the right time.

I need some sewing therapy today.
You know what???
I think that's ONE really good thing about UFO's.
They're RIGHT there waiting...
Waiting for that moment when we NEED to sew.
The decisions (pattern, color, etc.) have been made....
Maybe some of the pieces have even been CUT!
All we need to do is SIT down and
DO IT!
;)

A First!

Here's my friend's FIRST quilt!
Isn't it a BEAUTY??

She came over to sew today and
FINISHED this top!

She began by making lots of 16 patches
using this method.

Then...
She found this BEAUTIFUL vintage fabric
to alternate with her pieced blocks.
The vintage fabric was found at a rummage sale
and in it's former life had been CURTAINS!!!

I love that buttery yellow!!!

While she pieced this lovely quilt today.....

I worked on my botched banner..
and FINISHED!!
Woo Hoo!!!

Quilting with friends ALWAYS
makes the sewing SWEETER!!!

Busy Monday

When there's LOTS to do around here...
I frequently find quilt blocks to make.
UNNECESSARY quilt blocks, of course.
;)

They're the BEST kind.

I began this quilt back here....
and it's been waiting for me!
Patiently.

I loved using the OLD vintage fabric in the four squares....
They're the STARS of these blocks.

The supporting ACTORS are in the points!

I'd say the supporting actors are really
helping the stars to SHINE!

It's been fun digging around for scraps...

but...
DUTY calls!!!
I MUST get back to all my RESPONSIBILITIES!!!!

Paper work...
dirty floors....
laundry...
HERE I COME!!!
;)

What they don't tell you

They don't tell you when you begin quilting about the HARD stuff.

One of the hardest things for me is cutting up the fabric.
Making that FIRST cut.......

This time it involved cutting an old bathing costume/suit.

And....
an old dress.

When people know you quilt...
They ask you do HARD things for them like cutting up OLD clothes!!
It's not hard TALKING about it!
No......
IT's hard DOING IT!!!

I sometimes even have trouble cutting precious NEW fabric.
;/
Help!!!

It was especially troubling after my daughter
tried on
that old bathing suit.
Bloomers, cap and all!!!!

I've tried to give myself PEP talks:
"It's o.k. Beth.
No one will ever wear this again."
But...
the pep talks didn't work.

I had to cut it up and FELT terrible afterwards.
:/

Can't wait until I'm all done with this project for my friend.
I know she'll LOVE it...
and that's what I'm trying to focus on!!!

It will be SOoooo nice when I don't have any more
BAD dreams
about being IN TROUBLE
for......
cutting Grandma's DRESS!!!!!
