string quilt

Another quilt top for a high school graduate.
I wasn't loving that contrasting color.
I REALLY wanted white surrounding those string blocks.
But...
White+college boys dorm room= does not add up!!!

When I added the blue border I liked it a bit more.

The quilt was inspired by
My FIRST quilting book
and still
my favorite!

Here's the quilt in the book.

I still have a nice stack of scrappy blue blocks.....
Ready to be another quilt!!!

  3. I like the colors you chose better than the ones in the book.... and how perfect for someone going off to college!

Smart call on the "no white" thing....

  4. A wonderful setting and colors for a masculine quilt. Can't wait to see what becomes of the next pile of strings.

  8. The blue border really brings it together-- and I love the little brown strip on either end!

  9. It's so hard to make a "masculine" quilt but you hit it. Love the blues and browns.

  10. Beth, it turned out perfectly! I tend to want to contrast everything with white, but your quilt shows how wonderful other color combinations can look. This will be perfect for a guy's dorm room! I also have that quilt book and love it. Thinking I need to pull it out again. I really like how the string blocks look set on point.

  15. I've been away from blogland for a couple of weeks now. I went back to see the beginnings of this quilt and found I quite like the strips of strings as a quilt top. This may be what gets me back to the sewing machine!
