Monday Making with little pieces

Little tiny half square triangles are so much fun!

One minute I was piecing these leftovers together....
Next thing I knew....

I had a FINISHED project!

One little pincushion with a small ribbon attached for
GRABBING!!

Anyone else have trouble picking up the pincushion
WITHOUT injury
due to PINS haphazardly sticking out in ALL directions???

That little grabbing ribbon is going to SAVE me!!
;)

What are YOU making this week??

Table mat #3

These half square triangles had been locked away in a bag TOO long!

Putting them all together in this small quilt made my quilty heart glad!

I added simple quilting lines.
Friends...
Quilting does NOT have to be complicated.
;)

Love the country feel of this one!

Happy sewing!

Monday Making

I have been working OFF and on
on this terrific mix of color!

LOTS of half square triangles...
1 1/2" finished size!!!

I think I have enough for a decent sized baby quilt.
YEAH!
You know me.
I love baby quilts.
;)

Hopefully I'll have time to add some more white
AND some more 1 1/2" "HAPPY" to this quilt this week.

My kitchen is being torn out tomorrow...
so I'm sure the next few weeks of my life
will be a BLUR.
Who knows?
Maybe I'll retreat to my sewing room more often???
LOL!

What are you up to this week???

Monday Making

Aren't these little half square triangles FUN??

They measure about 2"x 2"
and when they are sewn all together
they SCREAM happy!!

I am either going to use them as a border for something...
or maybe I'll begin my yearly Table Mat Making Project
and turn them into something SMALL.
(the last couple of years I have made
and donated
about 12 table mats for a retreat auction)
;)

What are YOU up to this week??

Link up and share.

Wednesday

One more quilt top to add
to my  EVER growing pile
of UNquilted quilts.
:/

One of these days...
I'll sit down
and JUST quilt the quilt tops.

But,
NOT today.
;)

There are quite a few with deadlines
Baby shower,
Bridal shower,
Graduation.....

I'm getting close to getting
all the tops ready!
But.....
I'm putting OFF the quilting.
Do you do that too??

I love this one!
It was so fun piecing this FREE style.
When I got to the outside
I DID take some care
and made ALL the  half square triangles the same size.

I think they give a little order
to the chaos in the middle.
;)

A gift box

I'll be piecing some half square triangles today.
These were gifted to me by Selina.
Thank you so much!
They came in a box while I was Celebrating an Anniversary!

29 years of marriage.
Here we are taking the amtrack train to....

San Diego.
We stopped by Visions  Art museum.
A place I've wanted to see for a long time.
;)

It was hard to decided WHAT to begin sewing
after digging through Selina's GIFT box!

I almost began with this....
See?
She even sent some more paper foundations!
And look at this!
My little house quilt is moving along!

I was thinking it needed a car or two...
and Selina READ MY MIND!!!

How perfect are these????
I'm pretty sure they're going to fit right in!!!

Aren't blogland friends the BEST??!

Windy Day!

When I began piecing these hand-me-down
half square triangles....
I didn't have my thinking cap on.
Surprised???
Me neither!!!
;)

Some pinwheels are going this way..
and some are going another!!!

I've made a decision!
It doesn't matter which way the wind blows!!!

I'm not fixing A THING!

I think with some sashing,
cornerstones,
and maybe some other kind of DISTRACTION...
No one will notice!

And...
YOU won't be telling...
Will you?

I used a lot of BRIGHT colors!
Tuquoise,
Lime green,
RED,
gold,
...
You name it!

This is a FUN and quirky quilt!
I love it.

There's a flickr group just for
STREAK of lightning quilts!
Fun. fun!!!

Green and White

I was up early today.

After getting my 2 younger ones on the bus at 7 am...
I sat down and began stitching!

The PERFECT way to begin my DAY!

I had a pile of Half Square Triangles
that needed some ATTENTION!
;)

Since it was early...
I added a cup of coffee!

Amazing how fast rows come together
when you begin at the CRACK of DAWN!
LOL!!

The WEATHER was also cooperating today!
A MAJOR plus!
I opened the door
and let the cool breeze blow in through the screen!

SOooooo much different than just a couple of days ago
when the heat was suffocating!

I now have ALL my rows ready!!!
Next I'll be pinning those rows together  (ugh!)
and getting
A QUILT TOP!!!
Woo HOo!!!!

Quilt Along

My zigzags are all together!
It measures 50"x70" right now....
Thinking I'll add a border
with some of the leftover half square triangles.
Hmmmm.....

I need a NEW quilt at my house!!

My son took ALL the quilts off of his bed!!!
That means......
I have a naked bed!

Can't let that happen!
;)

Here's the link
for the Streak of Lightning quilt along!

Maybe you'll join in??

Wednesday

Today...
I made some more blocks for

It's fun choosing the fabrics to make each 9 patch!
I'm trying to include Black and RED...
Turquoise.....dots......yellow......
Green.....etc.....
Just can't stop with a FEW colors..now...can we???

Each 4" strip
yields enough for TWO nine patches!

While I was sewing...
My SWEET daughter did MY job!

She harvested the tomatoes, onions and peppers..
Then....
Put it all in the crock pot!!!
We'll have Spaghetti Sauce
ALL WINTER LONG!!!
AND.....
I'll think of her HARD work
EVERY TIME I serve it!
;)

In between sewing...
my Granddaughter found some NEW TOYS!!!
(grandma's T-shirt yarn)
LOL!!!!

Half Square triangles will TRAVEL!

I used some Leftover blocks from this quilt to make a bag!

Well....truthfully...it's still a QUILT TOP!!!
But...
One of these days...
it'll be quilted!!!
;)
I hope.

I WAS going to make this gift a potholder gift
like the ones I made last week.
But....
My daughter recommended making a little bag instead.
I'm GLAD she did!
I love it!

I first quilted the outside with some diagonal lines..
and then...
added the zipper and lining.

Very simple.
Very sweet.

My orphan blocks DID it AGAIN!
I was also able to use some Orphan batting... LOL!!!
I sure have a LOT of little pieces around here!!!!

I'm imagining these half square triangles traveling
FAR and WIDE with their new owner!!!
She just returned from a big trip to AFRICA!
Who knows where she'll be off to next????

Mostly Modern

This quilt began with a very MODERN idea.
Four Large Simple blocks using half square triangles.
and.....

Straight LINES.

I'm sorry to say the straight lines and I did not get along.
There was too much puckering...
and I wasn't liking it.
:/
We parted ways YESTERDAY....
Thanks to my little seam ripper.
:)

I ended up loop-de-looping...
a quilting pattern that's in my comfort zone. ;)

So.... I guess this quilt is a little LESS modern
than I had anticipated.

When I went "shopping" in my stash
for backing fabric.......
These pieces of fabric practically FELL OUT
of my cupboard TOGETHER!!!

More often than NOT.....
I have to DIG AROUND
for quite a while until I'm pleased with
the collection of pieces to use for the backing!

Except for the TIME SPENT UN-sewing...
I loved making this quilt!

Those BIG pieced triangles have me thinking.....
Hmmm.....
So many possibilities!!!!
