Math.

Today we're going to do a little math.

You know I've been working away on quilts for seniors.

About a week ago I couldn't figure it out on my fingers,

so today I'm going to document my progress.

I still need to cut some sashing...

I joined a quilt along last week.

Here's my second block.

My first block was a race to the finish, so the points

didn't match as well as this one.

wellllll, they say practice makes perfect!

I know I have a lot of practice ahead.

I was really trying to be first. :)

Kellie, who is hosting this particular quiltalong was offering a prize

for the first block done!

I love a challenge!!

But....I came in second!!

I did not buy the stitch and wash product she recommends.

I couldn't find it in time.

After struggling with the first block I've decided to

just draw the design on the muslin with a pencil line.

Then I'm doing needle turn as I applique on the those pretty petals.

That's why, if you look closely, the outside edges of the

circle are still raw edges.

I think we will be joining the blocks there,

but the instructions have not been sent out yet.

I think I will have fun with this quilt and will

have a take-along project for a LONG time!

Look at what I did with the little scraps!
One of my friends admired the fabric.
I couldn't resist making this, since her
birthday coincided with her sweet comment!

Now she has a little bit of that fabric for herself!!

sometimes you gotta cook!

This isn't the prettiest picture...

but it looks so much better when you put this into....

Green Peppers were on sale this week.

I don't love to cook.

It's gotta be simple for me.

This is simple.

1 pound turkey

1 chopped onion

1 large can tomato sauce or puree

1 can water

1 cup rice

some spices....like....

garlic, chili powder, celery seed...

anything you like...:)

I like to just sprinkle it on.

Start browning that meat and onion.

add

1 Cup rice near the end of browning.

add the sauce, spices and a can of water.

Now.

Instead of taking the tops off of those peppers

I just cut 'em in half (getting rid of the seeds and top)

Put some of that meat mix in.

You're going to have some extra.

JUST spoon it all over.

You may want to pour a little water around the pan.

I do.

I think it cooks better that way.

don't you just love these exacting directions?

Bake 350 for 30 minutes or so.

put some cheese on top at the end.

Serve.

My kids don't love the peppers, but my husband and I do.

I usually serve the kids lots of meat and rice...

with a little bit of pepper...

then i say...like a good mom.....

"don't forget to eat your vegetables".

When they get older, they always like those veggies!

And now...

I'm only sharing this to tell you (confess?)

I had some problems on what I said was a

SIMPLE project!

It started with that orange block on the left.

It would have been so much nicer in the middle.

Don't you think?

BUT,

I got carried away and had it all together before I realized...

It WASN'T in the middle like I had planned.

As you can see I left it. oh well.

I really don't like ripping out if I don't have to.
I'll probably use it at Thanksgiving and cover it

all up with food anyway!

Then I was sewing that beautiful binding on

and......

I HADN'T QUILTED IT YET!

I was WAY ahead of myself.....:)

I DID have to rip THAT out.

Now it's all done and I won't be

confessing about my sewing foibles for....

...a week?

....a day?

I had just enough of this lovely fabric for the back.

That's ONE consolation!


And here is what I work on when there is no
pressing project going on in my
sewing area (dining room).

Someday I'll be rich and famous and have one of those...
sewing rooms!

Summer Snowballs

Here's what I decided to do with all that BEAUTIFUL fabric I bought at the Long Beach Quilt Festival. SIMPLE Snowballs. Don't you like the way the corners all FLOP over for the pic?

I really liked the bright colors in this quilt and finally decided on the scrappy black corners....hopefully the colors will kind of POP when it's done.

I cut squares 6" and added 2" squares to the corners. Wondered if maybe I should have made the squares bigger (?) ...oh well.
I think I'll call this quilt....

tryin' to keep up!

Here are my blocks for the quilt along with amandajean. Just tryin' to keep up....the pace is incredible...ONE block a day!

AND, working on an art quilt....I love to do this kind of thing. :) Paper piecing with tissue paper. I can always find it in my wrapping paper supply and it's light weight. Did I mention I'm lazy and don't like to spend money?

two blog projects

I'm having fun quilting along with other quilters in blogland. Here are my two projects. The first is a 9 patch from a quilt along with crazy mom quilts, Amandajean. Everyone is supposed to make one 9-patch every day for 70 days. Actually I can't remember right now how many days - I know it's a lot! So-o-o I'm on schedule so far. Yeah! There will be some fun pictures on flikr of all the quilts people make.

This second little project is a sort of swap. Make 6 to 12 blocks and swap with other quilters. The pressure is on now...I better do a good job on my seams, etc. especially if it's going to a quilter. I think it's a lot less stressful giving quilts to non-quilters. I have already made these and now I am worried that they aren't quite right....oh well. Hopefully someone understanding will receive them. This swap just started so there's time to join in. Maybe you can be that understanding quilter that receives mine. :)

I better get back to quilting...my husband and 2 of the kids will be home from a big backpacking trip tomorrow! Then it's back to Cooking and Cleaning. :)
