back home again...

This is how I met Mary Lou.
I checked this book out from my public library
M-a-n-y times!
I loved looking at the pictures and reading her
talk about how to make a story quilt.
It was super inspiring to me.
Last week I was able to meet her
IN PERSON
and take her story quilt class with
17 other wonderful quilters!
This is a book I purchased while at camp last week.
Couldn't resist all those beautiful flowers!

Here she is (on the right) sewing her heart out!
I met her in person and found she's just as sweet as
she is in the book!

Her quilts were so inspiring!

She brought many of her quilts to share with the class!

Love this one!

Aren't those flowers great?

Christmas without red and green!

Nativity! wonderful!
After oohing and aaahing....
we were able to make some border blocks for
our own story quilt!
It was fun and inspiring to hear the
stories people wanted to tell on
their own quilts.
I took quite a few pictures of everyone's work.
Way too many to post all of them.
So here's a sampling of quilters at work.....

One of my favorite flowers by Nancy.

a very cute dog quilt started by Kathy.

A christmas tree memory quilt by Kathy.

A basketball playing grandson by Judy...
who made me laugh more than once!

Barbara made beautiful stars, hearts and flying geese to
surround her memory quilt!

One of my funny little flowers.

And last but not least...
This is what I worked on.
Can you see the crazy part in the middle.
I think that's very appropriate...
don't you?
Should it be titled Crazy quilter?
Crazy to quilt?
or just plain Crazy?
I hope to add something around that crazy part...
applique?....embroidery?........
Thanks Mary Lou and fellow quilters for a
great week!

  5. Hi Beth! I followed you over from Mary Lou's blog. I met her at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show this year. Sisters was the best show ever this last summer, so hope you can make is sometime! I show lots of quilts from it, including a few of her, in my blog posts from then. I loved reading about your experience at the retreat and your class with her and seeing the photos. Your entire blog is totally charming and I love your down to earth, but very, very special quilts!!

  6. Talk about a lot of inspiration! Looks like your week of quilting was wonderful in more ways than one. Thanks for all the pictures. Beautiful work by everyone . . . and I think you should name your quilt "Just Plain Crazy."

  7. I so envy you being able to attend ML's story quilt class. That has been my dream since I took a couple classes from her. Maybe someday. Love the quilt you did.
