Monday Making

I finished this quilt top recently
and almost forgot to BLOG about it!!

I love the way the solid strips pop out among
the old calicos.

Of course, the red pops are great too!!

It took me awhile to get it to the TWIN size it is now.

I had thought I'd add a border of some sort...
but decided to stretch it bigger with some more blocks!

Yes...
That was more challenging...but I DO like the way it turned out.
:)

Monday Making

This beauty came into my possession this week.
It's an amazing quilt made with love many many years ago.

The 12 center motifs are pieced
and the border is appliqued.

Isn't she lovely?

I wish this quilt had a label.
Remember to label your quilts!
Labels don't have to be fancy to work.  :)

Monday Making

I have been following along with Barbara Brackman's

There is only ONE MORE BLOCK to go!!

I look forward to the surprise of what that block will be
and I also look forward to getting the blocks all complete!

THEN....
I'll need to decide how to finish this quilt!

That will take some creative brain power.
:)

I have added my own SPIN to her block patterns
and have enjoyed every one!

O.k. Friends.
What are YOU making this week???

Monday Making

I was recently hired to make a memory quilt using ties.
This is the result of  many hours.

To make a tie quilt you first need to clean the ties.
Then you need to disassemble the ties.
Then you need to Press the ties.
Then you need to cut the ties into pieces.

Once that is all done.
You can BEGIN.
:)

I used a thin foundation for the log cabin blocks.

Since there is a foundation this quilt is on the heavy side.
(sorry I didn't get a photo of the quilt after it was quilted)

Next time I will know SO MANY things
I didn't know when I began.

Isn't that how we learn??

What are YOU learning or making this week??

Monday Making

Quilts DO grow...but it takes time.

I have a few more bars and red cornerstones to go on this one...
Then...
I'll have to figure out if I like it the size it ends up.
OR...
Will I want to GROW IT bigger???

I love how this "just because" quilt is looking!

+++++++++++++++

I am using 6 1/2" squares - cut into fourths.
(they are mostly old calicos)

The strips are 1 1/2" x 3 1/4"
(using my stash of solids- many vintage - free hand-me-downs)

The red cornerstones are 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"
(again, a vintage-like solid that I've almost used up!)

+++++++++++++++++

My husband's garden is also looking good!
There is always something fresh to eat.

:)
