simple.

Here's my GO TO quilt design when
I want to give someone a quilt....
and
I have no time!

This time I decided to make a blue quilt.
I wanted to use subtle colors because I don't really
know what the recipient would like!

I first went shopping in my garage. ;)
That's where I keep my stash.
I found a variety of blue prints.
This time I found 11 different fabrics
that sort of go together.

I cut one strip from each 3" wide.
(the width of fabric)

I put 3 or 4 strips together.

Now that I have those long pieces
I cut them into 10" segments.
Then played around with the placement.

Three rows.
I only needed one more little 3"x10" bar to even them up!!!

I added a light color sashing.
4" wide.

Then I added a flowery fun border!
That one is 6" wide.

My quilt is ready to be quilted.

Since it is kind of boring...
I'm going to go all out and quilt some feathers!
Wish me luck!

The question is...
white thread or dark??
hmmm......

My friend Marilyn is having a give away.

You can win some Free fabric!!!

finish line.

My teacher quilt is quilted.
The binding is attached.
All I need to do now it to hand stitch the binding on the back.
Then....
Give it away!!!!
I love this fabric on the back.
I found this last year at a thrift shop.
It's actually curtains. They were brand new!!
I think it works just fine as a backing!!
Bright and cheery!

You can see my quilting is just a simple stipple,
And the binding that I finally chose
is green.
Decisions...Decisions....
I thought the binding would be yellow.....
Amazing how we(I) can agonize over these
simple things in life!
Before I begin hand stitching that binding down,
thought I'd share with you my husband's hobby.
I benefit quite a bit from his labors!!!
Although if his garden produces like it did last year.....
I'm going to be busy, busy, busy
canning and freezing the produce!!
Zucchini.
Strawberries.

Cucumbers.

Baby tomatoes....
We hope they grow up soon!

Lettuce.
I'm going to be having a summer salad in no time!!!
I'm already cooking that zucchini.
I add it to almost every evening meal in one form or another!!
Tonight it was saute'ed with some onion and carrots.
Yum.

oops.

Does anyone else ever have this problem?

"Oops! I messed up!"...
"Seam ripper time!!!"

My big kids laugh at me as I talk myself through
these little difficulties!

I made this and thought....
"Great! I'm done with my bee block!"

Then.....I looked at the directions one more time.
I ripped out some white squares...
added some half square triangles....

AAaah! That's better.
Good thing I double checked!!

friday finishes

Here are two of the pinwheels from my teacher quilt.
They didn't end up in the teacher quilt because
they were going the wrong way!
I decided they needed to put to good use!
My 16 year old son will be traveling to Spain
in a couple of weeks and will be staying with a host family.
I think these will make a nice thank you gift.
Don't you?
And I'm sure these little pinwheels will be happy to travel.
I would!!

You can see the fun fabric on the back
and my simple quilting lines.

This quilt will also be traveling soon!
I finished putting the blocks together,
quilting and binding.
The blocks were made by friends
who also wrote little messages on the blocks.
Kind of a signature quilt.
The quilt will be gifted to a missionary couple
going to Uruguay.

I can now say I'm an international quilter!!!
:)

I'm adding this to Amy's sew and tell Friday!!!
It's fun to see what everyone accomplishes each week!

simple lines.

I quilted some simple lines last night.
This blue tape is a wonder!!
I just kept moving it over as I quilted
and it stayed "sticky" the whole time!
And...
The tape kept me IN LINE!!

I like the simple lines.

This is a happy quilt!

Since I really liked the green and pink fabrics on the front.
I chose green and pink for the backing.
Since the front is flannel...
and I live in southern california...
I used cotton on the back.
I've used flannel before as backing
and it makes for a VERY heavy quilt!

The quilt measures 46"x46".
Hot pink binding.
A finished quilt!
woo hoo!!!

I found out I'm actually USING my thread catcher!
I thought I would continue dropping the threads on the floor...
(old habits die hard!)
But I've been a good girl. :)
Sooooo...
to reward myself,
I added some ribbon and a button.
Now my little thread catcher is
cheery!!!

gift.

One of my quilt friends gave me the best kind of gift.
Fabric.
2 1/2" strips of flannel.
Already cut!!!
I decided to take 5 strips at a time.
Sew them together.

Cut them into squares.
My squares were 10".
I was able to get 3 squares out of each set of strips
I sewed together.

With the leftover pieces of strip sets, I cut 3" pieces
for the border.

I laid them out like a rail fence block.
Added on a border of the white fabric (there was a lot of that).
Then used all the leftover 3"strip sets for another border.

There was very little waste.
I am a happy quilter
with a free quilt!!!

And enough strips (if I figured it right)
for another quilt!!!

sweatshop.

It's been quiet here at my blog, Huh?
I was stitching away.....
Making lots and lots and lots...
of aprons!!
I imagined, as I sewed away, that I was in a sweatshop.
So..... I looked up the definition in good ol' Webster's.
Sweatshop:
Small manufacturing establishment employing workers under
unfair and unsanitary conditions.
Well.
I guess only part of that was true.
I was a small manufacturing establishment,
but the only unsanitary thing about my place
was the sink full of unwashed dishes and the floor full of
trimmings and pieces of thread.
It wasn't unfair because I readily
VOLUNTEERED!!!
I can now make an apron...
IN MY SLEEP!
See?
I didn't even have enough friends to model the aprons!
This picture made my labor worth it!
They had fun donning these aprons that are on their way
to a Jr. High performance of "Annie"...
This week!!!
The SHOW MUST GO ON!!!
