quilting bees

My online quilt bee friends sent me
half square triangle 16 patches this year.
LOTS of little half square triangles!!!
My quilt measures 41"x49".

I think I might add one more row of 16 patch blocks
and make this quilt square (49"x49").
What do you think?

Someone at my house thinks it's
JUST FINE
the way it is!!!

while I was gone.

While I was away
I received some mail.
Lovely mail.
Quilt mail.
The best kind.
My pile of bee blocks is growing...
and I'm getting excited!!!
Can't wait until they're all in and I can begin the
putting together process!!
I've also REALLY enjoyed seeing the little scraps
that my bee friends have been including in the blocks.
Thank you.
Those little triangles mean a lot! ;)
While I was away
I made ONE of these.
Only one!!!!
Guess that traveling and quilting do not go together very well.
At least not for me.

But LOOK at what I found during my trip!!
Amazing!
A centuries old pattern that is probably one of the
older examples of my quilt design!
Who knows?
Maybe it's THE oldest one???
I found this mosaic at the Israel Museum in
Jerusalem.

While I was away
I got to meet one of my blog friends, Miri.
Quilters are the best!!
Right?
Right.

barely bees.

Two blocks for the modern quilting bee.

These are for Annette who took her inspiration from Jacquie.
Thankfully....I had enough of that white.
I just BARELY made it!!
I don't think I have the SAME white in my stash....
so I was sweating it out at the end there!
I did run out of Annette's printed fabric,
so I added a couple of rows of something I had
that I think matches o.k.
oooh....I wish I would have planned better.

Look!!
I laid it next to that vintage fabric I bought yesterday.
I kind of like the way they look together.
Hmmm...do I see some NEW fabric in my future?
Then I worked on these blocks for Ruth.
I ran out of her pretty fabric too.
:(
Maybe I'm having an OFF day.
:/
Ruth said this might happen.
Oh well.
You win some.
You lose some.
May YOUR quilting fabric NEVER run out.
May you have joy in your stitching...
and
May you find peace as you trim and press!
I'm adding this to sew and tell friday.

oops.

Does anyone else ever have this problem?

"Oops! I messed up!"...
"Seam ripper time!!!"

My big kids laugh at me as I talk myself through
these little difficulties!

I made this and thought....
"Great! I'm done with my bee block!"

Then.....I looked at the directions one more time.
I ripped out some white squares...
added some half square triangles....

AAaah! That's better.
Good thing I double checked!!

bees and things.

I've been trying to catch up on my quilt bee assignments.

Here are the stars for Shaina.

I love this fabric!!

Alphabet letters for the quilt that Shea is
going to be putting together for her little one.
I'll be really curious to see this quilt completed.
Everyone is making a couple of letters
using all different colors....
Can't wait!
As I was finishing up those blocks
I received a package in the mail.
A BIG package!!

I opened it...
wondering what it could be.
I AM in a potholder swap...
but this looks too big for potholders!!!

It's a whole new kitchen set!!!!!
WOW!
and WOW again!!

My potholder pass friend got carried away I think.
Isn't it all too lovely for words??
Yes, I think so too.

Thank you.
Thank you, Jeannie.

One of the larger potholders looks lovely
under the flowers I received for Mother's Day.
Don't you think?

Let's just sit down and enjoy looking at
those potholders and goodies together.
Have some soup.
It is super, super easy.
So's the chicken salad sandwich:
diced chicken. celery. dried cranberries. Mayo.
Serve on croissant.

I would love to have my blog friends over for this
simple supper.
We'd sip our soup and admire all the
lovely things Jeannie sent...
Then we'd ooooh and aaaah over fabric....
Wouldn't that be fun?

April Bees.

I sure had fun with these two blocks!!
Can I have a quilt with a whole bunch of these??

Tracy from the Nitanny Block party sent some fabric
and requested anything,
but she likes improvisational.
I was inspired by Carla....
who was inspired by Gwen Marston!
AND.....
since I'm taking a class from Gwen next week...
guess what I thought about the whole time?

You're right!!
I dreamed about that quilt class..
happening next Tuesday!!
I can't wait!
Dreaming about things is almost better than
the REAL thing for me!!
I hope that Tracy doesn't mind that little bit of
GREEN I put in there.
I hand appliqued the leaves and circles...
so she can just take them off
if she wants!!
I kind of like that little bit of green!

Then Sarah over at the Modern quilting bee
sent strips...already cut!!
And newspaper to paper piece these blocks.
Let me tell you....
It was a struggle.
She requested 3/16" seams.
Do you know how hard that was for me???
Well...it was.
I'm sorry Sarah.
When it comes to numbers,
measuring,
seams,
I'm a little challenged.
I'm sending these to Sarah.
Two corners in each of these blocks has a little
blank area.
I had four chances to get it right
and I just couldn't do it!!
AAAH!
She said that was o.k....
Really??
It just doesn't feel right.
But, I'm sending them back.
She'll fix 'em up...I'm sure!!
You know...
Trim them down...
Add a little piece....
Who knows how she'll work her magic???
But I know she will. :)

bee block.

Since signing up for two virtual quilting bees I now have
a new reason to look forward to the beginning of each month!

Two little packages came this week.
Maybe I should have signed up for more bees....??
I love getting little packages!
Especially ones that are filled with fun fabric!!

I wanted to sign up for more, but decided I better see if I could
keep up with two bees first!
This quilt block is going back to Ruth
She asked for a 12.5" block.
For guidelines on How to make the block...she said,
"The sky's the limit!"
"do anything"
and,
"do something that maybe you haven't done before".

I decided to make some waves,
So that those jelly fish and mermaids
would have a place to swim!

I overlapped the first two pieces a little bit
then used my handy dandy
rotary cutter and cut
a very gentle wavy line!

They match!
Sew those two together and then
keep adding waves!

I especially like the way the very simple
embroidery stitches add dimension
to the waves!

I'm now thinking about making waves around
a four patch.
Do you think that will work??
We'll see.

quilting bee

I received a little package in the mail the day before Christmas!
Some pretty strips and....
Cute little pieces of focus fabric.

Melissa sent these out to the participants in the
Modern Quilting Bee.

This is my very first online bee and let me tell you...
it's sure not easy making blocks for someone else!
I second-guessed myself the whole time I was sewing.

Melissa requested wonky log cabins.
Are these "wonky" enough?

The title of her quilt: "what a girl needs"
I look forward to seeing what the other
quilters come up with!
And then one of these months it will be
my turn to request something.
What will it be???
