My own room

I'm showing it off today...
because it may NEVER be this clean again!!!
This is where I work.
This is where I sing along with the radio...
and....
where I HIDE out when I need some alone time. ;)

This isn't so neat...
but it works.

Behind my machine is an extra bed.
Kind of nice to have a quilt on display ALL the time, right?
Actually...
It's been covered with this and that...
so i don't usually SEE the quilt!!!
LOL!
It's also nice to have some walls for my art quilts.
I haven't managed to figure out a design wall yet.
Maybe I'll continue using the floor in the living room!

Some of you may know....
I haven't had this little room for long!
But I have TAKEN over!
I've been enjoying the fact that almost
EVERYthing I need is in ONE room
and not under 4 beds, a cupboard in the family room
and
behind the sofa!

There is also a nice big closet!
Some of it holds winter wear...
but I have the majority
and NO!
I'm not opening the doors today!
;)
Things might FALL OUT!

Window Office

This is where I work.
It isn't fancy.
There isn't a design wall...
but there's a pretty VIEW!
Roses, Lemons, hydrangeas.....

The fabric is not within reach...
It hides in closets and cupboards...under beds....
The Batting lives on the top bunk of my daughter's bed....
But....
I have a VIEW!!!
I often spy hummingbirds and butterflies
flying around....Just outside the windows....
Thanks to my husband's beautiful garden!
;)

Last year I borrowed my daughter's room while she was away at school.
It WAS nice to have a room that I could shut the door on....
It WAS nice to leave fabric laying about
in semi-organized piles....  :/

Maybe someday I'll have that luxury again...???

This is what's BEHIND me as I sew!!!
It's easy to ignore the kitchen mess IF I WANT to...
and ....
It's easy to stir dinner IF I NEED TO.... :)

One night this week...
I DIDN'T HAVE to cook!
My daughter made dinner for this quilt!!!

The quilt top was already finished.....
and had been folded up in my quilt top pile for a while now.

She needed a going away gift for a special friend.
We traded:
I quilted.
She cooked....

A delicious Dinner!!!
I had fabric for the backing...
and....
It didn't take long to finish it up.

Now that it's quilted I really LOVE this quilt!!!
Amazing what quilting a quilt does for perspective.

I'd say she STILL owes me though.......
Maybe a couple more dinners...???
Hmmm.....

you win some....you lose some...

I lost half of my sewing space this weekend.
This is the ONLY peaceful corner of the room now.
The rest of the room is in Explosion mode
as I try to condense!!!

My older children are at the age where they're home...
then they're not home...
then they're home again!!!

I've enjoyed a WHOLE room to myself over the last few months.
WOW!!!
I NEVER thought I'd ever have that!

I got carried away though....
I spread out.
I took advantage of the space.
Oh boy!!!
I've had some fun!!!
:)

It's over.
It's time to clean it up!
For a season, at least.
(One can dream, huh?)

Now....
I've run out of cubby holes to stash my stuff!!
EEEK!!!

So...
I lost some space...

But I also WON!
3rd place in the local art show!
Yippee!

The sky is painted with acrylic paint.
I pieced a simple landscape...
stitched a little by machine...
stitched a little by hand.
My little piece was the ONLY quilt!
Art shows are a fun way to share quilting with others!

I'm off to see if I can create some more
hiding places storage space
at my house!

coming home.

I thought when my children moved out,
they might call or stop by wanting a meal
or something like that.
Maybe they would miss my
Yummy.
Home.
Cooking.
Today I got a call.
"Can I bring my friend over to go
shopping
In your stash??"

Yes.
Hooray!!
Something brought my daughter home
for a VISIT!!!
Who would have EVER guessed it would be
MY STASH!!!
They even stayed to sew!!!
Double and triple....
Hip Hip Hooray!!!!
I wasn't going to sew today either!!
Oh boy!
Was I distracted!!!
I was supposed to be cleaning the house for
guests coming tomorrow for lunch.
AND
buying groceries for guests coming for lunch.
AND
making some food for guests coming for lunch.
BUT...
I just couldn't tear myself away from
these girls!!!
And their sewing adventures
in my new sewing room!!!
Guests coming for lunch will just have to
eat the ice cream sandwiches in the freezer
that I already bought!
That's nutritious...
Isn't it???
Well.
We had some success in my new sewing room
AND
we had some failure.
:/
She did a great job on the binding!!!
But the print is upside down!
Oh well....
She wasn't too discouraged
and I know.....
She'll get to make another one.....
and for that....I think
She'll have to come back and sew.

my sewing space

Here are the four patches I will talk about at the end of the post....o.k. bloggers. I decided to add this picture to the end of the blog, but couldn't move it. Then....I tried to delete, but don't know how. So friends, are these typical problems? Inquiring minds want to know.
Here it is.
Yes, I've taken over the dining room.
Once in a while, I clean it up for a nice Sunday meal....but recently I haven't. We just eat outside, or in the kitchen. My POOR family. :(
I have also stashed fabric on the chairs, so that you can't see it. Maybe someday I'll put a picture on my blog of my dining room table set for dinner with a beautiful quilty tablecloth on it....one can dream, right?

Turn around and you can see I've even added a short little bookshelf to keep all those little things like fat quarters, thread, scissors, and the list goes on. I sure didn't clean up much for these photos. (the white bookshelf did have more stuff on the top, but I cleaned it off).

This is where the treasure is!
But I won't open it tonight.
It's a huge MESS.
I looked at it thinking I MIGHT open it for my blog....but couldn't face the music. This monstrosity was purchased for a few dollars at a neighbor's yard sale and it sits in my garage. Whenever I need some fabric I go shopping out here. Many of you use closets in the house, but my bedrooms are FULL of children, so I haven't been able to take them over YET.

Now, for a quilt.
My daughter made some four patches a couple of years ago (see the top of the post) with some scraps she liked. But after making A LOT of blocks, she lost interest or got discouraged. I took those blocks and put this quilt together for her....it was a team effort.

Didn't she choose some fun fabric?

I had fun making this quilt and am happy we finished it for her.
