strips in pink

This quilt began because of
this.......

My strip basket was getting full.
This is a problem I wanted to solve.
;)
My scraps are pretty well organized....
The 2", 2 1/2", 3"....etc. squares go into their respective bags.
The small pieces go into their "color drawer".
And....
the strips leftover from trimming backings,
bindings,
etc.
go into this basket.
There are ALL widths and lengths included.

I sewed 2, 3 or 4 strips together
then..
cut them into 2 1/2" segments.

Made some LONG segmented strips 2 1/2" wide....
 and.....
VIOLA!
A quilt was born.

Lots of PINK.
RED....because every quilt needs a little red.
WHITE..... because I like what white does to a quilt.
Ooooh!
And I had to add some other colors to make it sing!!!!

It's not quilted.
When will I quilt it?
When will I quilt the last few quilt tops I've pieced???
When will I WANT to quilt a quilt???
These questions
SPIN
around my mind.
I avoid them.
I piece another quilt.
:)

  1. I love that! Keep piecing. That's why they invented long arm quilters.

  5. Other people throw those skinnies away - I love using these - you show just what potential those beauties have. A wonderful, cheerful, colorful quilt!

  6. What a great quilt. That's why I love scraps. Maybe I like then too much. Today while doing a little housekeeping in my sewing room I found a bag marked small scraps from a few years ago before my scraps were organized! Yikes!

  7. That's beautiful Beth!! And I feel your pain - I have nine flimsies all ready to quilt, just haven't had time to get to them!! Soon, I hope....

  8. This is another triumph, Beth, really in the original spirit of patchworking, too! I love the piecing too and suspect that the key to loving quilting is in lots of practise on bits that don't really matter...though maybe it will never compete with the fun of seeing the magical colour effect come together!

  12. Oh I have a strip basket just as full as your was. Now I know what I'm going to do with it!! I was going to do some string blocks, but I just love the way this looks!! I go through phases of quilting, I had six stacked up and waiting before I finally decided to get to them. Now, only 1.25 left. Love your quilt, can't wait to make one. Yikes, I'll have 2.25 then :)

  15. Whoop Whoop! Love the fun way you've done this, the strips within the square add such whimsy. You'll quilt it when it's ready, and not a minute before!!

  16. This quilt is so pretty. It always amazes me how fabrics you would never pick to go together come alive and work so well in a scrap quilt. Great idea.
