sewing without a pattern!

It's the day before school!
Tomorrow will come before you know it!
These cute little shorts were worn all summer long.
They are made from a knit and are
indestructable!
We love them.
This is what my little girl is supposed to wear tomorrow.
a uniform!
Blue or Khaki bottom and white top.
But......we have a problem with this little "skort".

This zipper is a trial and tribulation
to me and to my little girl.
It NEVER cooperates!

Guess what I found at the fabric store?
A wonderful indestructable blue fabric.
Only $2 a yard!
I bet I can make a little pair of shorts
JUST like the ones we LOVE!
I laid those cute little shorts on the fold.

I cut around those cute shorts!

ONLY TWO pieces!
sounds easy!

I sewed a seam.
right sides together on that arched side!

right sides together!
pin!
sew that seam!

We're almost there!

fold the top over (after sewing the raw edge under once).

Fill that empty space on top with
elastic!

Sew the ends of elastic together!

Yeah!
We are almost done!
This is so easy!

Hem.
simple.

TA DA!
a very BASIC school uniform
that I made myself!
I'm so PROUD!
And my little girl and I
will NOT have to fight with that
ZIPPER
anymore!

AND if these shorts are as
GREAT
as i hope,
I have enough fabric left for
2 MORE PAIR!
