Monday Making

This week I pulled out some red and cream scraps.
The colors are seasonal and
the scrap basket was calling my NAME!!!

I almost added green...
but these blocks seemed to be content as they were!

 The applique was an afterthought.
The circles are from my can of leftovers.
I think they were just WAITING for this quilt to come along!!!

this is what I THOUGHT I was making....
A nice smallish baby quilt.

But...
this quilt had other plans!

I"ll need to make a few blocks
because now that the applique is in process...
I'm thinking the quilt needs to get even bigger!!!!

This quilt is being made using the "mushroom effect"!!!
:)

What are YOU making this week???

Red and White

Don't you love the classic
RED and WHITE combination??

I do too!!

I was able to use some vintage red and white prints in this.
Oooh! I LOVE them!

Crazy...
but I find it hard to CUT into these precious older fabrics!

 Table mat #2 down.
10 more to go!!!!

12 is the GOAL!
Goals get me going!...
Even if I don't always make it.

Friday

I'm a little late to the finish it up Friday party.
I JUST made it outside to take a photo before I lost the sunlight!
:)

It was GREAT to get this ALL done today.
When you have a GOAL...
It sure is nice to get to the finish line......
Even when there are unforseen curves in the road!
;)

I've quilted it simply with lines
and will go back now
SLOWLY
and add some BIG red stitches BY HAND!

So....
technically
NOT done.
Close enough, don't ya think?

I scoured my 2 1/2" strip drawer
and found the LAST few REDS to bind this with.

Red and white.
That classic combo we ALL love!!!

This cuddly quilt measures 53"x57"
and will be auctioned off soon
to support a friend's daughter
heading to Canada on a year long
missions trip.

One fun fact about this quilt:
A few years ago I inherited
a bag of OLD cloth bandage strips
rolled up and sewn tight to be sent to
missionaries.
They were probably made in the 50's or 60's.
I was able to add some to this quilt!
I love the way old things made with love and care
can be added to some of the things we make TODAY!!!!
It's almost like they were WAITING patiently
for their turn to be made into something special!!!

Friday

WE never get TIRED of red and white...
do we???

My old table runner needed an update..
so I went about making a table mat.
(I am SO surprised this one was made
WAY back in 2011!)
Seems like yesterday!

Instead of a TABLE RUNNER...
I squared it up.  ;)

First I made the 4 patch blocks needed...
then I began cutting and made a SLIGHT change
ONE cut is smaller than the others.

IT makes the construction a LITTLE bit tricky...
but it worked.
YEah!

JUST IN TIME
for valentine's day!

I took lots of photos...
added instructions
and listed it in my little pattern shop.
:)

RED and WHITE

There's a GREAT red and white quilt show going on
over at Insights from Sewcalgal.
This is my entry.

A quilt made in 2010 for a Friend.
A THANK YOU quilt.
I don't make many THANK you quilts...
but she deserved IT!!!!

Round the WORLD in red and white.

The colors were picked JUST for her!

I did an all over quilting pattern in the middle
and then tried my hand at feathers in the white border.
I also scalloped the edge...
which I THINK adds a LOT of charm to this simple pattern!

Here's one of my friend's past times.
Now you know WHY I chose RED and WHITE for her!

and this is her TIDY kitchen.
Wonder how she keeps it this way???

Enjoy the quilt show!
I'm OFF to clean my kitchen!
LOL!

red and white.

You know this already....
but let me remind you:

Quilting is JUST sewing and cutting....
sewing and cutting
sewing.....and.....

(Can see the small quilt
in the background there?
I'm trying to get it ready for hand quilting.
Quilting also requires a little bit of THAT)
;)

The reason I like it so much....
Is because it results in such wonder!!!

You never know EXACTLY how it's going to look.
It's a SURPRISE.
A wonderful surprise!!!!

You COULD follow a pattern....
But then...
You'd miss ALL the FUN!!!!
:)

This is for a swap!!

Have you heard about the I spy swap
Lollyquiltz is organizing???
You have until May 31
to send her twenty 5" squares!!!!

The 20 squares I'll receive from Carla
will be a surprise too!!

There's WONDER at every turn
when You're quilting!!!

red and white

Here's a red and white quilt I'm adding to Taryn's
red and white quilt show.

It's just a simple "around the world" pattern,
but, I like it very much!
Red and White seems to make ANY pattern striking!

I gave it to a friend who's been
"looking out" for my daughter in Georgia.
My daughter's there attending college and I'm way over here
in California!!
You may remember me blogging about it here.

I think this is where the quilt lives most of the time....

But when it gets chilly....
It fits right on top!!!!

I love giving quilts away...
And I love knowing they're getting used!!!
