Garden Thoughts

*Finishing a quilt is rewarding!
*Using up scraps makes the finish even SWEETER.

* Pebbles don't ALL have to be similar in size...
* You can make bigger pebbles when you get tired
of the smaller ones... ;)

* Pieced and pretty fabric makes a GREAT backing.

* When you've made a GENEROUS sized quilt back...
there will be big pieces cut off the edges....
* These are perfect for cutting into 2 1/2" strips for binding!
* You don't have to search for ANOTHER piece of fabric!
* Searching takes a while at my house!!!!

* Even though I LOVE these flowers...
I know they won't LAST.
* A quilted GARDEN DOES!!!!

Since you asked.

A couple of you wanted to know how I did the stitches
 on this project yesterday.
I used my machine and curved all the way down each row.
Corner to corner.
I've tried this before with just one CURVE....
but when I double the curves in each square.....
my imperfections are HIDDEN. ;)

I do not like to mark quilting lines....
so this pattern worked great on this little table topper.

I began at the top of a row
and curved my line of stitching down to the opposite corner.

I then curved back UP to the top.

Then I curved down RIGHT next to the FIRST curve.

Here's the next SQUARE.
I did the same thing.

Down, up, and down again.

See???
Each square has THREE curves.

Here's the last bit.
When you get to the bottom of a row of squares....
You turn around and go back UP through
ALL the squares filling in
ONE MORE curved line.

Hope that explains it a bit.
I really like this quilting design...
but have to CONFESS.....
I rarely quilt this heavily on QUILTS.
I usually save these close stitches for small projects!!!!

Here's what I'm working on now.
SWIRLY lines ALL over.
It goes much faster....
and it's a quilting pattern that seems to
come easily for me.
We probably ALL have a "DOODLE" that's inside of us.
Well.....this is mine. ;)

When you're wrestling with a quilt...
You don't want to have to THINK too much. :/

Adding Interest

The 2 1/2" squares were out on the table......
I had a request for a blue table mat
from a sweet older friend.

ONE hop, skip and a jump....
and....
It was done!

Kind of blah....
UNTIL......
the stitching came in!!!

AMAZING.....
what a few stitches can do!!!!

Field of flowers

I'm stitching a field of flowers among the
I spy blocks.

Kind of like snowflakes.....

No TWO are exactly alike.
;)

I'm aiming my needle in the center of each block....

Doodling Four corner petals.....

and then...
filling in four more between.

Wondering if the I spy blocks should get quilted
or
left alone!
??????

It's not all flowers and stitching here though.
Sometimes it's
Rah Rah!!
Go Team Go!!!

Nice to have a little BALANCE in life...Hmmm?

Crazy Kids quilt

Before blogging....there were quilts.
Lots of quilts!

This is one I made for my son a long time ago.
He chose the centers of these crazy blocks....
and I added the scraps.
I'm PRETTY good with scraps!
;)

This is the FIRST quilt I free motion quilted!
Oh Boy!!! It's a wonder I kept at it
after looking at my stitches here!!!
Eeeek!
But I did....
And I can see that there's been some improvement!

Yep.
Practice makes Perfect Pretty good!
