A gift

A birthday gift.
A simple gift.

I've made a few of these for myself
and
LOVE "dressing up"
my active kitchen table with them!

I even Handquilted it!
I love the colors!
Hopefully my friend will too!
;)

I included a handpainted necklace in her gift bag....

Because I LOVE wearing mine!

Happy Corduroy DAY!!!

November 11, 2011

I thought I'd be celebrating corduroy day with an OLD quilt top
given to me long ago.
Lots of corduroy squares....sewn together.....
Just a flimsy.......
Coming apart at the seams.....

I LOOKED
HIGH
and
LOW.

No quilt was to be found.
:/

I'm guessing I donated it
in a spurt of cleaning.
I do that ONCE in a while.
:)

Since I couldn't find the OLD one.
I had to make a NEW one!
:)

And......
Since I got such a late start....
I can only share this BEGINNING.

I LOVE this quilt
and hope to let it GROW!

I'm imagining LOTS of yarn knots...
ALL over the top!!!!

I may even invite friends to a
TIE PARTY!!!
You know....
Everyone sitting around the table tying
Yarn KNOTS all over the quilt!!!!

What color should the Ties be???
Black??
Red???
Maybe I'll even make some cookies for the occasion!
Or....
A chocolate cake!!!
Better get this one DONE...
I love a PARTY!

Since today's national Corduroy Day..
Nifty's organized a GREAT QUILT SHOW.
Head over and see some more quilts!

snowflakes

Blogland is SOooo inspiring.
I have a lot to do today...
but....
I couldn't resist trying this out!

Fun! Fun!

A few more blocks and I'll have enough for a
Table Runner!
Woo Hoo!

Waves

I'm playing with fabric today!!!
:)
A few wavy cuts here....
a few wavy seams there.....

The modern8create group handed out a challenge...
LAST MONTH!
Oops!

Choose a palette and make something.
So....
That's what I'm finally getting around to!!!
:/

The HARDEST part was walking from the computer screen
with the Picture and palette of color...
and then
Walking into another room
to SEARCH for the right COLOR!

Looks like I might need to add some GREEN.
Guess I missed that walking back and forth!

Next up:
Deciding if I want wavy lines
up and down.
OR....

Waves from
SIDE to side.

flannel scraps

Amazing what ONE little owl can do.
I began with some flannel scraps and thought my little blankets
were a bit....

BORING.

I WAS happy to use up some scraps though!

Like I said.....
That ONE little owl adds SOooo much.

Blanket stitching makes it look even better!

Remembering to cut out the center of the
fusable is BETTER still!!!!
It makes the applique so much softer!
Those fusables can be STIFF!

I even added DARK little circles in the eyes
with a permanent pen!

Bottom LINE:
Boring blankets can be CUTE with just a little something!

Google an image.
Get some ideas.
Iron on some fusable.
Add a little stitching.

VIOLA!

vintage flowers

I was given a treasure today.
An unfinished quilted treasure.

The giver handed it to me with some tears in her eyes.
Her Grandmother hand-stitched these flowers together
and my friend stitched some more.
She said she KNEW she'd never get it done.

I feel like I've been given a VERY important JOB!
Eeek! I don't usually take on IMPORTANT jobs!
I like to leave those kind for others! ;)

As she handed it to me....
she assured me I could do WHATEVER I wanted with it.
She probably knows I L-O-V-E
taking unfinished things
and making them USABLE!

Well.... I said thank you....
and took a deep breath.
Maybe I CAN do something with this......

You can see her Grandma's stitches here....

and maybe you can see her stitching here.

Since the flowers are not all exactly the same size...
I think I'll have to applique them onto something.
(I might even use some fusable web).

Will the "quilt police" mind?
shhhh.....don't tell.

Birthday quilt

Not EVERYONE gets a quilt for their birthday at my house...
but tomorrow  a little girlie DOES! ;)

This quilt contains so much LOVE.
I Spy squares from blogland friends....
Strips of scraps from other quilting friends....
And lots of MOMMY love!

I had a hard time choosing a green for the binding...
so I just PICKED them ALL!!!

I also tried out some fancy quilting stitches.
I don't STRESS about the quilting when it's for my little one!

Since my stash is LOW on big pieces I have been
Piecing my quilt backs.
So gratifying to USE up what I HAVE! :)

Here is my quilt's new home.
READY to be cuddled.
Ready to comfort.
Ready to be SPIED!
:0

I'm including this quilt in Amy's quilt festival!
A quilt show we can enjoy
right from our own HOMES!
Thank you for stopping by
and letting me share MINE with you!
