red and green

When I began this quilt....
I thought I might...possibly....use it for Christmas someday.
That day has not arrived.

This is another one of my 2" trouble quilts!!
Thankfully there's lots of green.
So.........
I've decided those seams are just NOT going to match!
From a distance you can't really tell....
Can you??

I'm going to move on with my life....
I'll leave these 2" blocks where they are.
Finish this quilt.
Say goodbye trouble!
and
MOVE ON!!!

Making do.

Do you know one of my favorite things about quilting???
It's called .....making do.
also.......Using up.
Or even better....Making something out of nothing!!
I am aware that we all like that NEW
Beautiful fabric!!!
But....
I get a real kick out of using up!!!
These blocks were history.
They were NOT going to be used.
Someone gave them to me....
who probably got them from someone else...
Who may have acquired them from...
who knows???

Yes. I do like getting

something from what someone else thought was nothing!!!

The backing here is an example of me Using UP!!!

And.....I think the polka dots kind of perk this up...

don't you???

I also make do in the kitchen sometimes!!

I needed a quick snack to serve to sewing friends yesterday.

I didn't have the "right" cake mix....

But it turned out just FINE!!! Woo Hoo!!

Apple Oatmeal muffins
1 pkg. white cake mix
(I used carrot cake mix)
1 C. Quick cooking oats
(I used 3/4 C. old fashioned oats)
2 tsp. cinnamon
(I deleted this because of the cake mix I used)
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 eggs
1 3/4 C. chopped peeled apples (2 large apples)
1 1/3 C. milk
1/2 Butter

Melt butter and mix everthing else in.
Bake 20 minutes at 350.
How about you???
DO you like making do???
Using up????
Making something out of Nothing????
I'll add this to Amy's last sew and tell for the year!
Have a great weekend!

update on the neighborhood

I've been getting houses in the mail!!
Yeah!!!
Looks like the neighborhood is coming together!
Sharon sent a big bunch!
Em sent another STACK!!!

Here's a cute little house from Michele!
Don't you love that Selvage??
Me too.

Linda used some batiks.
Aren't these great?
I hope you'll all enjoy making these fun little houses
that remind ME of
this great blog neighborhood we live in!!!
Keep 'em comin'.
With all these houses....
we should have a few lucky winners!!!

Em also sent me a quilt top!!
Did I ask anyone to send me a quilt???
I didn't think so!!
I thought you'd all send ONE block!
You're a generous bunch!!!
I've been overwhelmed with the kindness of
all of you!!!

Now I guess there'll have to be another winner!!! ;)
I decided to use this quilt top as another giveaway prize!!!
Instead of a group of house blocks....
you may win a house quilt top!!!

What do think of that??

January 1, 2011 will be a fun day at my house!!
I'll count all the houses.....
Divide them into little groups....
Choose some winners...
send out the blocks....
AND
a quilt top!!!
WOW!!!

What a great neighborhood!!!!

simple pleasures.

My life is full of simple pleasures!!
Yesterday it was making these
teeny.tiny.itsy-bitsy. pillows.
The larger pillow is 3" square.
The Smaller ones are 1 1/2" square.
I had fun filling my little chair
with Christmas.

I also had to make a matching quilt!!
4 1/2" square. :)
You can see I'm hand quilting it!!
Not quite done with that part yet!
Don't think it will take long....
do you???

Here's the back of the quilt!
Vintage flannel!!!
Woo Hoo!!!
The other simple pleasure I enjoy.....

The last piece of coconut pie!!
I might even eat it out of the pie pan!! :o
Here's the easy recipe from an old
Taste of Home magazine (Dec/Jan. '98)
Coconut Pie
2 C. milk
1 C. sugar
4 eggs
1/2 C. flour
6 T. butter or margarine
1 t. vanilla
1/2 t. salt
1 C. coconut
Mix all the above in a blender.
Pour into greased pie plate.
Bake 350 for 1 hour.
serve warm.....
or cold like I'm doing now!!
If you like coconut macaroons...you'll love this one.
What are YOUR simple pleasures today???
Enjoy them!!
They are what make life so beautiful!
