Scrappy top is off the floor

This is my VERY favorite kind of quilt!

The messy kind of quilt.
The FREE kind of quilt.

The kind that involves DUMPING scraps out
and DIGGING.

The kind where you use STRINGS that are ANY size
and you GET what you GET!!!

The kind that incorporates all KINDS of scraps...
even the clothing kind!

The kind of quilt that takes me on an
ADVENTURE!!
***************

This quilt lived on my design floor for a couple of weeks.
It was hard to get around it.
The Scraps were PILED next to it.....
and NOW it's pretty much DONE!

Yeah!

I still need a trim along the edges
and MAYBE add a border to make it twin size???

We'll see.

OOOh!
Then I need to QUILT IT!

Friday Finish

It's just a simple quilt...
but I LOVE it!

I used a light gray fabric for the alternate square
(actually there are two grays that are similar in color)
and added SCRAPS of pink, yellow and blue.

Since I have been REALLY trying to use the fabric
I already HAVE....
I ran out of gray.

Not to worry.....

The border squares don't have any gray.

And that's JUST fine.

A Scrappy, Happy quilt.

This was my view as I put those squares together.

With a sewing machine
and a project along...
My camping trip was COMPLETE!
;)

Friday

Yeah!
My fun scrappy basket quilt top is NOW a quilt.

Quilting continues to challenge me.
As I meander along....I notice all the "oops" stitches....
They are literally RIGHT under my NOSE!
LOL!

But when It's ALL done....

I'm content.

I don't notice ANY of the troublesome stitches.
They're ALL happily forgotten
and I'm ready to SLEEP in peace.

:)

Basket quilt

I'm happy to say I finished another quilt top today!
This one has been in my
"Work on it once in a while" pile.
;)

This quilt began innocently enough.
It was a little basket block made with scraps.
"CUTE!" I thought.....
"I'll make some more".
When I'd made a few more I KNEW it needed to be a quilt.

Now it IS.

It's also QUEEN sized.
Hooray!
This is one I'll USE!
The applique in the border is very FREE form...
Needle turned...
and NOT
FUSSY in the LEAST.

JUST the way I like it.

Thought this black and white photo looked great.
Aren't smart phones FUN??
Wish I knew HALF of what they're capable of!!!

Happy QUILTING!!!

Scraps on Monday

It's a scrappy
dump and sew kind of day!

Lay out the scraps
and
SEW!

Today I had to do a little
DIGGING before
I dumped the scraps on the table.

Here's my new scrap basket
and a little model to give you an idea of SIZE!!!

I didn't want to dump the WHOLE thing!

Well??
Do you think it's big enough???
Will I have enough to finish my baby quilt???
Ha ha!

:)

Each block begins with a 4" center.
Strips/scraps are sewn together
and cut into 3" wide segments
fitting them around the square
log cabin style.
Block is trimmed to 8 1/2".

(the transportation print is also cut into 4" squares
surrounded by muslin strips 3"...
trimmed to 8 1/2")

**note: my measurements
are 1/2" too big.
It's less stressful.
and fits into  my
HURRY SCURRY
kind of quilting style.
;)

I'm calling this my scrappy
TRANSPORTATION quilt!

Sewing day

Aren't they pretty?
Half log cabin blocks with scrappy blues and greens.

I had fun sewing with the church ladies on Saturday.
The blocks ADD UP FAST when there are MULTIPLE machines going!!

In my last post I mentioned we'd be paper piecing these.
Some liked the paper piecing method...
some did not.

Goes to show.....different strokes for different folks!
The old saying holds true for sewing, doesn't it?
Isn't that WHY we all like quilting???
So MANY options!!!
So MANY WAYS of doing it!!!
No hard and fast RULES!!!!
;)

Yep.
We had fun sewing together.

I think I need to schedule this kind of day More OFTEN!!!!

Friday Finish

I'm not sure there's ANYTHING better than a scrappy quilt.

Except... MAYBE.... the birdy fabric that surrounds it!

This scrappy quilt is ALL from my scrap bag.
My scrap bag is VERY full....STILL...

Three pretty pink pieces of fabric from my stash
came together for the backing.
The longer piece on the right is VINTAGE.
A precious piece of fabric I almost didn't use!!
It's sometimes HARD for me to use the old,
beautiful, sweet fabrics given to me by dear friends.

I had the best time cutting and sewing.
Puzzling and piecing.
Digging and trimming.
:)

This quilt measures 61'x62"
Almost square!
When you're using scraps...
It doesn't always come out PERFECT!
Hah!
Does any quilt end up that way???
None of MINE do.

Tuesday

You know me.
My favorite fabric is called "SCRAP"
and
my favorite word is "DONE".

This quilt has them BOTH!
;)
Thanks go to Selina
for sending me this UFO.

As I sat there wrestling quilting this one yesterday
Sophie sent me a comment.
A word that came at JUST the RIGHT MOMENT!
I love when blogland does that!

She sent me the word...
BREATHE!
A gentle reminder.
I needed it!

I used some soft white and black prints for the back of this.
They're the last ones in my STASH!
I'm doing a pretty good job
USING what I already HAVE.
There was just a little bit more of that IKEA bird fabric too.

I almost DIDn't think to use it!
So GLAD I did!

Did some loopy quilting.
Found some GREENS for the binding.

It's the perfect cuddle size quilt!
A generous 65"x65"

Going to cuddle admire this one a BIT longer
before it finds a NEW home.

birds and spiders

I'm a finisher.
(Don't misunderstand...
I DO have UFO's at my house....It's just that...
they PREY on my mind...
and I TRY hard to get them done!)

Sometimes....
I finish quilts that I didn't even BEGIN!
;)
This is a scrappy quilt that I've been working on
bit by bit when camping in my trailer.

I FINISHED getting the blocks together last week!
All it needed was a border...
and I DIDN'T have border fabric WITH me!

This is how it all began.
With this BOX sent to me early in the year.
The box was EASY to pack and carry when camping.
;)

I'd love to give credit to the quilter who STARTED this quilt.
I'm pretty SURE who sent it...
but don't want to be WRONG!
Are you like that too??
My brain does NOT cooperate sometimes.
My poor memory is faulty.
:/

She sent scraps and papers.
Half finished blocks....
Lots of PURPLE.
I'm not a purple fan...
but I used the purple.
;)
And...
HAPPY that I did!

I've always wanted to make a spiderweb quilt
and THIS was my CHANCE!

I'm SOooo happy with the border fabric I had!
I LOVE it!
In my humble opinion...
It ties the WHOLE quilt together!

You can see I didn't have quite enough....
so I added some polka dots.
Polka dots make EVERYTHING better!

Does it matter that ALL the spider web edges don't match?
NO.
I figure that's just part of the process
when you're finishing someone else's quilt!

This is a finish.
It won't get to go on ANY more trips with me.

Technically it's NOT a finish...
because it's not quilted.
BUT....
I always call a quilt top a finish!
The quilt top can be folded up
and saved for a rainy day!
It'll be almost READY to GIVE away!
and...
SO much easier to STORE!

Friday Finish

I can't take credit for making this WHOLE quilt.
It all began with a whole bunch of orphans
given to me by another quilter.

Thank you Cathy!!!!

I made some scrappy blocks to match.....
I figured out how to lay them out...
But....
Since there weren't QUITE enough for a quilt,
I added a BLANK slate in the middle.

I WILL take credit for the center applique.
Isn't it great?
Getting the colors just right was the hardest part!

I had a green floral for the backing
and some yellow for the binding.

See all that quiting??
I don't usually quilt this heavily...
but the center seemed to be CALLING for it!!!

This, my friends, is a  REAL scrappy quilt.
My FAVORITE kind.
Lots of little HAPPY pieces of fabric.
Old
and NEW.
Dark
and LIGHT.

Mmm....Mmmmm...GOOD!

Laurel Leaf

The center to this scrappy quilt
is now complete.

I began with a few orphan blocks...
made some more of my own.....
pieced them together
LEAVING an EMPTY muslin center.

Backwards....I know.....

But didn't it turn out nice?

Using this product made it extra speedy.

ALL the leaves are the SAME size.
That helps too!

Had to pull out my little machine
since Ms. Juki doesn't "DO" zigzag.
;)
Did you hear her SARCASTIC voice???
Yeah.
I did too.

In other news....
My husband's garden is going GANGbusters
keeping me BUSY in the kitchen!!!

Every night I try to figure out a way
to incorporate a Garden item
into whatever I'm making!
Kind of like scrap quilting....
...kind of....

Tumblers

This quilt must have been ALMOST done
when I put it away a few months ago!!!

It sure didn't take long to get it DONE!

It helped that I was stuck at home today
with a sick child.
A child that didn't need a nurse.
Just needed a day or so to let the cough
and sniffles calm down.
;)

I'm calling this one my
"FOR THE LOVE OF OLIVE" quilt.

The backing was purchased on impulse
a long time ago.

I love the way it goes with the green tumblers in there.

This is a comfort quilt.
Just the kind I LIKE!

It's full of old, new, ugly, cute,
green, blue, pink, purple.....
orange!, gold....

Next time
**cough, cough...**
I make a tumbler quilt...
I'm going to BEGIN with a GO cutter
and not a little plastic doohickey
that requires
rotary cutting.
rotary cutting.
cutting.
and MORE
cutting.
