More Small Quilts

Here are two more small quilts for an upcoming auction.
I like to call them table mats!!!
I imagine them sitting in the middle of the table
with a nice pot of flowers on top.
But....
Maybe they'll be wrapping up a much loved doll.
As long as they're being used....I'm happy!

In the first one I used two lovely hand pieced orphan stars
PLUS
two stars that I made to match.
They didn't match exactly...
and that's the CHARM!

You just never know what will happen when you CREATE!

The outside triangles were leftovers from a mistake in construction.
They add the perfect TOUCH!!!
don't you think??

Mistakes are just the jumping off place for me!!!

The second small quilt contains the last FEW precious scraps
from a quilt I made a few years ago.
I LOVED the fabric that went into it.
Hope someone will love these blues as much as I DO!!!

Monday Making

Little orphans are becoming
Little quilts at my house these days.

I received quite a few orphan blocks
a couple of years ago (has it been that long???)
and I'm STILL working at getting them
Finished UP!

Most of them became charity quilts...
but I few blocks didn't quite FIT in.
These little quilts will be part of an auction.

They will be the centerpieces at a retreat/conference.
We'll eat our meals around these pretty little quilts.
:)
Thanks go to all the SWEET quilters
who sent me these lovely gems.

My goal is 12.
I'm up to 6
and I have until April.
Yeah! I think I"ll make it in plenty of time!
Although.....as you can see....
these guys are not DONE!
Knowing ME....
I'll wait until the very last minute to get the bindings on.
At that point I will have to DIG again to FIND
the right fabric!!!!
LOL!

I love all of them!
These table toppers would also make GREAT doll quilts!

Some of these little quilts are STRETCHING me.
I learned how to add PRAIRIE points!!!
It's always a good thing to LEARN something new.
;)

This is for when I'm NOT at the sewing machine.
I'll make a little progress today while I sit
and watch Downton Abbey on PBS...  :)

The kids have been wearing the HATS I gave them for Christmas!
Made me want to make some MORE.

Orphans all deserve a home

Two little orphans found a HOME today.
It's a TWO sided bag.

Both blocks deserve to show off!

My friend loves flowers.
These flowers seem just right for FALL.

Someone sent these little blocks to me last year
and they never made it into a quilt!
I think they're going to LOVE being a bag...
don't you???

I added white strips.....

Quilted some lines with batting attached to the back.

Trimmed.

Found some bright lining and cut it to fit.

Added a zipper.....
One side at a time.
;)

Hey!
I even gave the bag a little boxy bottom.

Orphan blocks.
They ALL deserve a HOME.

little jobs

When there are BIG jobs waiting to be done....
I choose the LITTLE ones.
Every. Time.

;)

This little table mat
includes all those great flying geese
sent to me last year when I collected orphan blocks.
Someone else's Leftovers
became a LOVELY project for me!

This is the first of 12 table mats
I'll be making for a springtime auction.

I don't know though....
I just might KEEP this one!!!!

four squared

Chances are...
If you liked the quilt you were making for a BED....

You'll like it on your table too.
;)

This quilt BEGAN.
Stalled.
Sat.
and...
Sat some more.

I took the four quilt blocks.
Quickly joined them together.....

quilted around the squares with a wavy loop.

Another quilt table topper for an upcoming
retreat and fundraiser.

I might bid on this one MYSELF!!!

Hand stitching

I spent a LONG day in the hospital waiting room yesterday.

My Godmother requested I be there for her surgery.
I'm so glad I could be there for her....
And...

I'm so glad I had these orphan blocks to work on.

I am quilting them up
and will be donating them as table toppers
for a fundraiser coming up!

I hope to make at least 10!

Thought they'd be MACHINE quilted.....
but don't they look nice with those big stitches???

The ONLY problem.....
I RAN OUT of thread!

Remnants

Buying remnants (end of bolt fabric)
is KIND of like buying fabric....
but NOT QUITE!!!
(that's what I've been telling myself)
;)

It's just a LITTLE piece....right?

I challenged myself with a YEAR of
NOT buying fabric.

I've slipped a few times..

and when I saw this 5/8 yard of fabric...
I BOUGHT it!
Ooops!

Should have NEVER entered that fabric store...
but I was helping a friend.
(excuses, excuses...I know!)

I didn't want to CUT up that cute fabric...
so I added some orphan blocks!!!

Oh my goodness!!
I love this quilt!!

Another one I want to KEEP!!!
But I have no little boys at my house.
They've ALL grown up!!
and....
It happened SO fast!!

See what you can do with
REMNANTS and ORPHANS???
The two were MEANT for each other!

The letter "P"

When life is PARTICULARLY busy/complicated....
I like to PLAY.

*If I don't want to feel GUILTY..
I call it a PROJECT!!!
Sounds a bit better
when I am explaining to family
why dinner is still not done.
 I frequently say....
"OOps!  Time got away.
I was working on my PROJECT."

First I PULL.....

Then I PIECE.

I PUZZLE.....

PROUDLY using the PROLIFIC orphan blocks.

It is the way I
PROCESS
the EVENTS of my life.

Quilting is a PLEASURE-filled activity!
It's also
PRACTICAL!!!
(Another P word I LOVE!!!)

Any more P words to add to this POST???
:)
Thanks for PLUGGING along with me...
Sorry...
I just CAN'T stop!!
LOL!

Working backwards

I pulled out some squares today.
4 1/2" squares.
I feel FALL coming on
and the colors reflect the season.
;)
Gotta love all those
golden and rusty red colors!

I began sewing squares together
and THEN began looking for a big orphan square.....
Something to be the CENTER piece of this quilt.
(Kind of like this.)

I know that's a BACKWARDS way of working.....
Yeah.
that's me.
;/

I didn't find EXACTLY what I had in mind.

I found something BETTER!!
A little group of log cabins
sewn together in a random fashion.

I just LOVE the way this orphan fits IN!!

This and that

This quilt top is put together with bits and pieces.
This and That.
Colorful squares.
Happy stars.
Flying Geese!
Lots of RANDOM orphan blocks.
;)

I'll quilt it simply and send it OFF!!
This is the kind of quilt
that gives me peaceful thoughts
when the world is CRAZY!

Family life has been BUZZING over here.

I was happy to have a few orphans
to put together.
They kept my mind OFF of the "busy"
and ON to "thinking of OTHERS".

You know what?
In the daylight...
I'm not so SURE about this quilt.
IT's not a real COHESIVE bunch of blocks.
But...
It's done.
All those happy squares are together.
AND...
I got some MENTAL HEALTH
out of it!!!

**************

Here's some of the busy at my house!!!

Soccer Season just begun
and.....
Dad is COACH.

See that loving look she gives him?
So sweet.

Nothing like a birthday to make ME feel older!!
and...
It's not even MINE!!!

My third child turned 23!!
She was 2 just yesterday.

And granddaughter is almost 2!!!!
Aye yi yi!!!
(How do you spell that???)

Almost everyone made it to the birthday brunch.

These two are MOVING north
in TWO weeks!

Kids are BUSY.
Kids are growing UP!
They're flying away.....
They're making PLANS!

That scrappy quilt gave me
the SEWING THERAPY I need!!!

Hope it gives a young one
the COMFORT they NEED!!!

Friday

One lovely orphan block found a home.
A nice quilty HOME.
It feels loved...
embraced by a whole bunch of friendly squares.
;)

This one turned out so lovely.
I'm happy I had that center orphan square
(someone else's)
to get my creative juices going!
The scrappy squares around the outside
 just MAKE this one
SO fun!!!
It measures a healthy 58"x58".
Just the right size for a large throw.

I imagine I'll add a navy blue binding to TIE it all together.
I also think I'll have fun stitch doodling
in all that light blue around the outside!!!

Speaking of stitch doodling.
You can do it on PAPER!!!

Yesterday,
while sewing with friends...
my friend made this!!!
The beginning of a card.
She's ALL set....
READY for the next wedding!!!
Just needs the last name!

I love this idea.
