Home again

Just back from a weekend retreat.
:)
I took an applique project with me and
was able to complete my FIRST block
of a new project!

Believe it or not...
I was ALL OUT of hand projects
and had to scurry around
to get this one packed up!

I CAN.NOT. leave home for a retreat,
doctor appointment
or car trip
without some HANDWORK!!!

I hope to make a few of these blocks.
Eventually....I'll have enough
for a quilt!

Had a wonderful time with daughter.

I was in charge of a simple craft.

Tinted jars with knobs.

We painted on the "tint"
(modgepodge and food coloring)

Spray painted the lids
and added knobs.

Very simple.

Then...
I came home to babysit this....

HAPPY face!

Slow going

I am a pretty QUICK quilter...
but some things Just take TIME!!!

This quilt is ONE of them!!!
It's teaching me patience.

I surely need more of that!
;)

These are my tools.
My Mission:
Get this one done for my daughter
before she gets married on
MAY 5!!!
Eeeek!

I've committed my Thursday mornings to the task.
No MATTER WHAT I feel like doing!!!
:/

Will it get done??
Inquiring minds would like to know...
SO....my friends....
would I!!!!

I began this quilt way back HERE!!!
I am appliqueing each finished circle
onto a BIG (bed sized) piece of muslin.
I baste them on...
then I applique them on.
I am NOT following the directions.
:/
Do I EVER????
Nah!
That would be too EASY!
LOL!

Vines and Leaves

I'm adding some applique to this quilt!
I cut some leaves Free hand
and am adding them
ONE by ONE
on to that curvy vine!

The light border I'm putting them on is
a VERY generous 10" wide.
LOTS of room to play!!!

I pinned them on HERE and there.
I don't think this kind of applique
needs or WANTS a pattern.

Leaves are ALL so individual in REAL life!

See my use of THREE different white/lights??
First there was the muslin pieced with the triangles.
THEN
There was the muslin with sparkly freckles!
A gold sashing.
And then.....
a very light white/gold floral.

THAT, my friends, is what you do
when you have LOTS of fabric
but NOT lots of the SAME fabric!!
:)

I'm almost done with the purple leaves.
I'll switch thread color soon
and work on the greens.
Hey!
I might even get busy and make some BERRIES!!!
I think they'd be VERY happy in this quilt!

Hawaiian pillow

My Mother-in-law wants to make a pillow......
Hawaiian STYLE!
This is NOT a project I would have ever chosen on my own....
but when sweet Mother-in-law wants something....
then sweet Mother-in-law gets it!!!! ;)
I'm making one so that I can help HER make one.
We've made a few quilts together and I enjoy
the process and the time we're able to spend together
doing something fun!!!

There I was needleturning this yesterday as I sat in a hospital room
with a relative......
Thinking....
I don't see too many quilts using this pattern in blogland.
Well!!!!!
Look what I saw when I got home from the hospital!
Victoria is making THIS!!!!!
NO...it's not Hawaiian quilting....
But it IS
AMAZING!!!

Here's the pattern my Mother-in-law and I are using.
Simple.
Victoria sure has me thinking about
some possibilities though!!!
Next up...
I need to begin handquilting this.
:)
