Modern Orange

Orange has been calling my name this week!
I had to DIVE in and begin something with
ORANGE!

First I took the buttons off of....

This orange shirt.

But..... CREATIVITY led me another way!

I didn't even USE the shirt that started it all!!!
Crazy.  :/

I'll probably end up using the shirt fabric for binding.
We'll see......????

I started adding blue...
some stripes...
and
I'm OFF!!!

A quilt that makes me HAPPY I'm a quilter!!!

My plan is to build around the center
and grow this one big enough for a baby!

A MODERN baby.
;)

Ring Pillow

This is where sewing meets REAL LIFE!!!
My daughter is getting married.
Can I just say
EEEEEEKKK!!!!
Unbelievable.
They grow up WAY too fast!!!

She is NOT a demanding bride.
Hallelujah! for that!!!

She wanted something simple.
Something with lace.

And something with a little handle on the back.

Not much to ask...at all.

two inches

I was given a bag of 2" squares last week.
Before I knew it I had some
FOUR by FOURs!!!

Then there were FOUR in a ROW!!!

And another FOUR by FOUR!!!

Gotta Love those 2" squares!!!

I made sure to mark the sashing.....

so that my rows of FOUR
lined up!!!

Pressed.

Added a border.

One BABY QUILT!!!
2"  of HAPPINESS!!!

The 2" drawer is not empty.
and...
I'm not tired of 2".
I WILL never be tired of 2"!!!!

I'm adding more 2" to this orphan quilt
given to me.
Hoping to focus on
PINK and BROWN as I add squares on.

It's fun digging around
in my little treasure drawer of 2"!!!!

I have a baby quilt here using 2 1/2" squares.
Thought it was fun to compare the two.
Amazing what a difference
1/2" MAKES!!!!

woven bag

My heart has been divided recently.
Do I weave on the loom???
Or piece fabric on the sewing machine???

This time the loom won out!

I used some polyester black fabric
and some grey yarn for an accent.

I used a black crotchet thread
for the warp
and added some leather handles.

It's a GREAT weight for a bag!

This is the what the loom looks like "in action".

(my daughter making a table runner for her friend)

It rests against a table and you
*click * click* away!!!

I bought the loom online and have not regretted it!!!
It came with a small instruction book
and all that is needed to begin simple projects.

Mine is 24" wide.

I've been able to make things out of
the "uglies" that end up in our sewing rooms.
Turning "nothings" into "somethings"
really makes me SMILE!!!

Nice pile o' quilts

Four lovely charity quilts....
Finally quilted!!!!

This was the stack BEFORE!

So nice when a job is DONE!

Technically...I have ONE more to finish and quilt.
Don't hold your breath.
;)
I'm calling it done for now.

Here's the first orphan block quilt.

It's laying on my backyard...
where almost EVERY quilt picture takes place!!!

When I ask helpers to hold the quilts...
there's always a RUSH to get the picture taken...
so the holder can get on to other things!!!

The grass doesn't complain or rush me at all!!!
;)

Love the pretty floral on the back of this one.
It was a nice big piece handed down to me
from a 90+ year old friend.
Sweet.

Here's the third quilt using all YOUR orphans!

FOUR!!!

This one was quilted by a quilting friend.
Nice to have many hands when there's a BIG job!!!

We've even added a little LOVE to this one!!!!

I'm sending these off
to Equilter!!!
Looks like they're still collecting quilts
for Hurricane Sandy victims!!!

I was a bit worried that by the time
I finished these quilts....
the call for quilts would have PASSED!!!
Whew!!!
So glad I made it!!!

and look at this!!.....

These arrived this week from Norece!

More orphans needing a home
in a
QUILT!!!!

Thanks to EVERYONE who sent orphans my way.
Orphans make such HAPPY quilts!!!!

lifesavers

This little baby quilt and I are finally friends.

We spent quite a bit of time yesterday
ripping!!!
Not a GREAT way to GET along...
if you ask ME!!!

But now...
All the pieces are contained.

They won't be getting OUT of place again!
LOL!

I love this one.
I love all that pretty fabric.
I love that I didn't have to shop for any of it.
My goal this year...
use ONLY what I own!!!
We'll see how THAT goes. ;)
And....
I love baby quilts
you knew that already though, right?

How to Rip

Ripping out.
It happens.
It's not pretty.

This is my quick method.

1. Choose your tool.
Mine is a small.sharp. pair of scissors.
;)

2. Go along the seam and cut the thread every 1/2" or so.

3. Grasp near the seam tightly!

4. Pull apart in ONE FAST Firm motion!!!!

Voila!
Rip is complete!!!

5. Move on to happier things...
LIKE
SEWING!!!!
