school bag

Here's a super simple school bag I made for my daughter a while back. I used an upholstery sample and had just enough to make it. :)
I also used some tan denim for the lining.
Nice and sturdy.
She loves it, so I"m a happy momma.

a flower garden

This is another of my unfinished quilts waiting for an occassion for a quilted gift...or maybe I'll keep this one. All the blocks are ready to go. Maybe I'll add a white border with some applique. I'm still thinking about it.

This is a pattern I got from the Moda Bake Shop. I like to see what's happening there! This pattern appeared way back in May. Sheri Howard designed this with 30's fabrics and her squares strips were only 1 1/2". I'm afraid of 1 1/2" strips. AND I knew if the squares strips were a little bigger = the Quilt would be bigger...right?

My squares strips are 2". Not much of difference, huh? But, a big difference in ease of construction. I had SO much trouble with my measurements. LOL!
If you happen to change the square strip size like I did...be sure and change the other cutting directions.
instead of 1 1/2", 3 1/2", and 5 1/2"
you will cut: 2", 5" and 8".
The blocks grew to be 11" square.

i'm so brain dead...didn't even remember they were strips! AND it wasn't that long ago I made these! The GOOD thing is...I learned how to do those fancy strike outs!

camera-less

My camera went on a week-long trip with a family member. So, I will be unable to post anything about my current quilting progress. What if we go back in "quilt time" and see some of my early projects?
After all, quilting came before blogging....didn't it?
This quilt was made from some scraps I loved. I found them on the "give away table" at a quilting class.
There weren't many scraps in the little baggy, but I had fun trying to make a little quilt with those little pieces of cute fabric!
This is a quilty puzzle....how can i fit them together and get a block?

This little quilt is waiting for a little person to give it to before it's quilted....it takes up a lot less space that way. :)

Squares!

This quilt was started by one of my daughters. She chose lots of fabric she liked, cut squares and started sewing them together. When things didn't match up as well as she liked...yes...she gave up. :(
Now she had these big sections of quilt.
What would you do if she were your daughter?
Well, I told her I'd put them together.
I cheated and added the cream sashings.
I don't like it when seams don't match either.
This quilt turned out so-o-o pretty with all those colorful squares.
Good job Hannah!

tryin' to keep up!

Here are my blocks for the quilt along with amandajean. Just tryin' to keep up....the pace is incredible...ONE block a day!
AND, working on an art quilt....I love to do this kind of thing. :) Paper piecing with tissue paper. I can always find it in my wrapping paper supply and it's light weight. Did I mention I'm lazy and don't like to spend money?
Happy Quilting!

little quilty gift!

Do you like to give little Quilty Gifts?....I do. I gave these away yesterday to some new members of my church...a Welcome Gift. As you can see I also included a church cookbook. Have you figured out what these two little things are?

Hot Pads! ready for some heavy duty cooking!

I began with a USED TOWEL (clean of course). I cut an 8" square.

Then I looked from some nice backing fabric. This is a little bigger than the towel....9"x9"

I had these scraps left over from one of my recent quilts. These are 2 1/2" strips.

I laid first strip down and pinned.

Then I put the next strip on top - right sides together. Time to SEW! Sew through all layers! This is called "quilting as you go".

press open with your finger, or you can be professional and use an iron. :)

Here are all 4 strips sewn together and pressed open. The edges look a little rough.....

So Trim it! Trim to 8" square. Remember your towel square is 8" square.

We're almost done. :) choose a nice binding fabric and cut 2 1/2" strip from the width of fabric. Iron it in half with the right sides OUT.

Sew the binding to the BACK of the quilt starting at any corner.

Here's the first corner.....stop before the very end (about 1/4") turn to an angle and sew diagonally to the point.

Fold Up!

Fold DOWN!

Now continue to sew like this all around this little "quilt" until you run into this......

Stop before you get to the very end. You don't want to sew over the binding where you began.

PIN...PIN....PIN

Roll the binding over to the front and start pinning! You will even pin this tail of the binding if you want a little loop like I do.

Top stitch all around beginning with the long tail. I don't know how big of a loop you want....I left a 9" tail than makes a nice loop to use for hanging.

Here it is...almost done!

Fold over that tail and sew it down. Of course you'll want to tuck that raw edge under. This is very thick....but it works!

LOVELY!! can't wait to get cookin'

Simple Saturday

Here is my patio table. It's so nice to eat outside in the summertime! I made this table cloth last year and didn't buy a thing to make it! I had the nice striped fabric in the cupboard and the flowers were from my stash. When I made this I was in a hurry (as usual) and didn't even use fabric adhesive for the flowers....maybe I didn't have any and was too lazy to go to the store. It was free and easy to make.
I just cut the flowers out, put my feed dogs down and ta da! I'm not telling you that there are some puckers in there....but it didn't matter too much to me. I even left the edges "RAW". This table cloth has seen MANY meals and is getting very faded. I needed a new one...so-0-0...

Last week I found this queen size sheet at the thirft store. YEAH! I love the fabric and it's nice and wide.
I bought it.
I brought it home.
I washed it real good.

Today I trimmed it up and hemmed it. I even have left over fabric for my chair!
Super Simple! You can do it too!
The hardest part will be finding a sheet you LIKE!
