The oldest UFO

This is possibly the world's oldest UFO.
It came as a hand-me-down from an 80 year old friend.
It was in HER aunt's quilty project box
Have you seen those boxes???
They aren't rubbermaid folks!!!
LOL!

I am certain she was going to make a WONDERFUL quilt!!!
But...
she never got to it!

Friends...
She was hand piecing this one!!
The stitches are so tiny and pretty.
It was a shame to cover them up with the quilt sandwich!

I AM sure though that she would be happy knowing
her once upon a time project
is now a SOMETHING that SOMEONE can USE!!!

There were LOTS of these half square triangle pieces.
There are four attached here.
ALL I did was applique a muslin square right on TOP!!
Then it was quilt, backing and binding!!
You know the drill.

The fabric is old and a little fragile.
Oh....and there are a few age stains!!

That's o.k.
Those old age spots just say
"USE ME!!!"
;)
And I WILL!!!

There is more treasure in the box.
I'll be BUSY!!!

A beginning

Each Year I make a few of these table toppers
for an auction.
They always find GOOD homes
and it's so nice to give LIFE to orphan blocks.

Someday....my orphans will be ALL used up...
but I suspect that day is VERY FAR away!!!

I always need to do some TWEAKING
as I make these little table QUILTS.

This  one (my first this year)
only needed a simple border with cornerstones.
Others need more complex additions
and my brain is BUSY as I work it all out.
PLUS..
my sewing room is a battle ZONE as I dig around
for the RIGHT fabric!!!

It might be EASIER to start from SCRATCH
and follow some kind of pattern.

But....
You know me..
THE EASY WAY???
never.

Friday

I'm happy to have a finish today!

A quilt is QUILTED...and BOUND!
That's always a GOOD thing.
;)

I'm sending this off to my older daughter.
She works at a small school and they're having a BIG fundraiser next week.
It'll get there just in the NICK of time!!!

This quilt began with that big middle block...
given to me by a fellow quilter.

I added a few borders and called it DONE.

This lovely vintage cotton sheet makes the perfect backing.

This quilt contains
NEW,
OLD,
and....
some HAND me DOWNS.

Isn't THAT the perfect kind of quilt???
