batting-LESS

After finishing the donation quilt kit yesterday
I still had some time before delivering it tonight to
MAYBE...
get another quilt ready.

I had half of these strips sewn together already,
left over from another project.....
so it was snap to make a few more blocks and
get this little baby quilt ready.

No batting.

I've always wanted to make a flannel quilt
with front and back flannel with
NO batting.

It's lightweight.
but not TOO lightweight.

You can see I used the leftover blocks on the back.
Everything seemed to fit perfectly.

As to the quilting.....
Those diagonal lines were so easy.
I didn't even use my walking foot!!
The machine just glided across this little quilt.

I will definitely make another
battingless, flannel quilt again!!
Can I call it a quilt when there's no batting?
You can still leave a comment over here
to help me celebrate 100!
Who knows....you might win a little fabric.

  1. What a cute little quilt. I'm always amazed when people say "I think I'll just bust out a quilt right now," and then BAM! Very impressed!

  2. This is a lovely little quilt. The fabrics look so nice together and I'm sure it's very soft. I made little flannel quilts for my children when they were babies and they loved them even as they grew a little older.

  3. I just did two of these using fleece for the backing - no batting. I love them! We made ours a little smaller - 9 blocks instead of 16 - because they were for newborns. And I think it's a "quilt" if you quilt it - regardless of how many layers it has!

  4. I love your flanel quilt. I too make baby size charity quilts. I have never seen such pretty flanels. I thought you used cotton.
I found a deffination to justify that indeed you made a quilt.... "Quilting is a sewing method done to join two or more layers of material together to make a thicker padded material." Happy quilting!

  8. so clever! I made my children summer "sheets" when they were in cribs because there was never anything in the stores the right weight. BUt I used plain quilting cotton and I didn't stitch across it.
I will keep your method tucked away for inspiration - I do love flannel so much.
