a fun morning!

A couple of days ago I made some of these quilt blocks...
With a few of my friends from church.

We had a wonderful time!!

We finished off the coffee in no time...

Was it because of that yummy new "coconut Creme" creamer?

We ate almost all of the bagels and muffins.

And this is how it All began.

With 2 1/2" strips...cut the width of the fabric.
We had a lot of strips to choose from.

I cut a bunch before the meeting and had two piles.

One pile for the boys with blues and other "boy" colors....

One pile for a girl with pink and brown.


These quilts are being made for the high school seniors

graduating this year, who attend my church.

We sewed two strips together.

Cut that in half and then sewed those two together.

See what happens?

A nice strata.

one helpful hint: press the seams

ONE direction at this point. :)

Cut that into 2 1/2" pieces and then lay them out like this.

If you pressed correctly, the seams will automatically be going

in different directions! Just what we want!

Usually you can get two of these 16 patch blocks out of only

TWO strips.

We were productive.

VERY productive!!

PLUS!.... we had fun together!!

true confession.

Here's what I did NOT make for Christmas.

Wow! That's a lot.

Well, six kids, one daughter-in-law, and one husband.

EIGHT pajamas bottoms.

I didn't do it.

I even bought some men's t-shirts to decorate and coordinate

with the bottoms for the big girls.

I still didn't do it.

My little prototype.

I was going to add little ruffles to the bottoms of

all the girls to liven up that inexpensive flannel I bought.

I didn't do it.

Then AFTER Christmas....

I talked to my big girl who goes to college

far away.

I thought I should at least get hers done!

"Would you like some pj bottoms?" I asked.

"Yes. But NO ruffle please" she replied.

"And I want to roll the top down a little."

Very plain.

Oh well.

She'll wear them and hopefully know....

Her Mama cares.

And that's what counts!

Maybe the others will be made here and there....

We'll see.
I've sure got enough fabric!

Looks like Linda is almost done with the applique in this corner

and then she will do some more in the opposite corner.

Plus, I learned something!

Always a good thing. :)

See those little triangles at the top corners of these?

I have never used this kind of hanging method,

but noticed it was the first one listed on the

web site at AAQI.

You can see I still need to do my hand stitching on the bindings.

After attaching those triangles, I wondered if this

method would work for a quilt that has been giving me some

trouble!

I attached some triangles to the corners of this quilt

that would not stay flat on the wall...

No matter what I did!

You can see I still have the little blue sleeve behind there

that I had been using before.

I'm lazy and didn't want to remove it.

Plus, maybe those little triangles weren't going to work...?

Well......after tucking a thin dowel into the triangles...

It DID work!

My little 100's chart will now hang flat on the wall.

Hanging it straight....

That's another story.

free ribbon

After making this quilt for my neighbor

(which she loved, thank heavens!)

I had some leftovers.

You know, all those scraps left after quilting and binding.

I had an idea!!

I get so excited about ideas!

I'm sure I'm NOT the first to think of it...

but...

I've never heard of it.

SO...

It's my idea. :)

Cut those long scraps into 1" strips

and use for ribbon to present the quilt!

Here's a little 9"x12" quilt for

the Art Quilt initiative.

They are raising $$ for

Alzheimer's research.

Here I am plugging along with this little baby quilt.

I love playing with my scraps.

Then I made these for Wanda over at the
Nittany Block party.



She requested People fabric for the center of these
simple log cabins.
I really thought I had zero people fabric.
Thought I might have a reason to shop!!!
BUT....I found this cute piece left over from some
car pillows I made a long time ago.
I love this fabric!



No big quilts today.
The little projects are
so satisfying!!

a gift

Yeah!
I finished quilting this little baby quilt,
And binding it!!!

A simple backing with some light green binding.

Now all we need is a simple label for the back.
Can't wait to give it away!!!

And then I have a warning for all of you.
IF you make a quilt that someone loves...
You'll be making another one.

I made a t-shirt quilt last summer and received the
NICEST thank you I have ever received.
The thank you note said....
"That was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me"
and.....
"I will babysit your kids or your dogs for the next 20 years" :)

Well, when someone says that kind of thing...
I'm going to do that again!!!
But....it didn't stop there.

The recipient told another neighbor, who in turn
asked me....
"Would you mind making me a t-shirt quilt for my grown daughter?"

What could I say??
You guessed it.
I said, "Yes! I'd love to"
And I do love doing this for others.

What a great way to reach out to people, huh?

Today or tomorrow I'll try to begin quilting this one.
