friday finish

Here it is!!

Another friday sew and tell for amy.

A disappearing 9 patch without a turquoise border.

You won't believe this, but I actually went shopping for fabric!

Or maybe you WOULD believe me!

I journeyed to the local fabric shop and couldn't find
ONE

piece of fabric that really WENT with this quilt.

But, YOU all know that I didn't leave that store

empty handed!!

I decided that since most of the fabric was old,

that muslin border fits the quilt MUCH better

than any of the NEW fabric I was seeing at the shop.

A new quilt pose!

Right under the flower garden!

So PRETTY!

Maybe we'll name it cotton candy.

Naming these quilts is not my FAVORITE activity,

so my daughter gave me some help this time. :)

Brought to you by the members of my Wednesday morning quilt class.

When we found out one of the long-standing students in this class

was battling cancer....the ladies ALL wanted to participate

in this friendship quilt.

I made only ONE leaf. As you can see,

NO ONE wanted to be left out!!

Mary is going to LOVE this quilt!

I love ALL the color,

and.....

I have the PLEASURE of putting it together!

I know I will be thinking of her and praying for her

as I sew...and sew...and sew.

Quilters are sure a generous, loving bunch!!

These I spy quilts were popular a while back.

Guess what I still had in my drawer...

The copyright on the pattern is from 2000...

so that gives you some idea.

All the hexagons were cut and had those

little triangles added.

All I had to do was sew them in rows...

a cinch!!!

Why, oh why did I wait?

I always feel like I'm on a rescue mission when I take these UFOs

out of my cupboard or drawer.

Maybe I've read way too many children's books in my lifetime.

Didn't it turn out nice??

I think it will be a Christmas present for a little girl I know.
She and her brother can play I SPY in the car.

And, as I was working on this disappearing 9 patch last night,
I thought that 2" border fabric with sewing scissors motif was the right color.
WRONG!

I sewed it on first thing this morning and
lo and behold...as I was pressing it...
it's not the right color turquoise AT ALL!

Blame it on nighttime...
tired...
bad lighting....???


Soooo, guess what I'm doing today?!!!

another start

I put my name on Jacquie's list.

I said I would finish 5 UFOs before the end of the year.

Then.....

I looked at these squares.

They were cut by a sweet older lady who then gave them to ME!

4" squares....all ready to go!!

I like that gingham. Don't you?

So...
Instead of finishing.
I'm beginning.

I added some fabric squares from my stash.

Mama Pea inspired me to make a 9 patch.
I love 9 patches.

But, I've never tried a disappearing 9 patch.
I now have a NEW UFO!!!

The BEST....

The BEST thing about quilting is

giving them AWAY!!!

I was able to give this quilt to friends yesterday.

What a WONDERFUL feeling that is!!!

Do any of you quilters out there have that same feeling?

This quilt went to the son and daughter-in-law of my

quilt mom Gerda.

The second BEST thing about quilting is

DREAMING!

Who will this little quilt go to?

I can imagine a sweet little boy playing with his rattle on here!

That blue binding is kind of boring.
Do you think that little baby will notice?
I wanted a plaid or stripe or polka dot.
But....did I have any that matched that pretty blue?
NO!!

Oh well....



And the last BEST thing about quilting is
clearing my MIND!
Sometimes I just want to sew and not THINK.
When I sew these simple four patches together...
I don't have to think...too much.

I can just sew and sew...
No pattern....
No matchy matchy problems....

And I also dream....
who's bed will this be on???



I think this quilt needs a little perking up.
How 'bout that border???

Yes....that spices it up a bit!!!

waves and bees

I finished putting all my blocks together for this waverunner.

They are all 10" square.

I didn't follow the directions completely....surprise, sursprise!!

As you can see I used that inspiration fabric

and saved myself some time. Didn't have to piece those blocks!

And this little girl is ready for a parade!

Thankfully...Mommy finally got her act together..


and whipped together this....

Busy BEE costume!!!

I'm probably MOST proud of that little bee and flower
on her shirt!!!
I have a leftover bag of fabric pieces already attached to
that iron-on stuff...steam-a-seam.
I cut out that little bee and the flower was already in there..
woo hoo!!
THEN...After ironing them on....

I just ran around them with my sewing machine..
feed dogs down...just like I was quilting!
VIOLA!!!

Here's ONE of the things I'm working on today.

A little costume for the school parade tomorrow!!!

Sometimes inspiration comes a little late.

Those antennae and wings were in the halloween box.

Don't know how long I've had them...

You see....I've been a mother for a LONG time.

:)

My oldest is 23 and youngest is almost 6.

I've fostered children over the years...

So you can imagine I've been throwing together costumes

for a long time now.

What do you think???

Will this little skirt work for a bee???

I think I'll gather those petals and have my

little girl tie it on like an apron.

I DO know how to make aprons!

We may get her to model it soon!

And right next door to that creative space is this one:

My KITCHEN!

I do some creating here too.

Heather gave me the recipe and I just

tweaked the serving suggestion,

Putting it on lettuce along with rice!!!

chicken and salsa

several pieces of chicken (I used boneless)

1 jar salsa.

cook all day in the crockpot.

I lOVE my crockpot!!!

Now layer...

1. lettuce

2. rice

3. chicken

4. sour cream

5. cilantro

YUM!!
