Monday Making

Here's what I'm working on this week.

I'm ALMOST done with the appliqued squares!

Just one more!

Then....
I have to decide what to do in the alternate blocks..
IF anything.

Hoping to add a nice applique border.
THAT, my friends, will take a while!!!

You're next!
What are YOU making this week??

Laurel Leaf Love

I'm super excited about my NEWest SLOW project!
Actually not NEW...
but pulled out and started again.
;)
We all need at least ONE of these going,
don't you think???

I have all my supplies SPREAD out on a portable table.
Hoping to fit in a few stitches here and there
Mostly though...it will be
at the end of the day when I like to WIND DOWN.

I began by folding my 12" square in half twice diagonally.
Adding the long stems by first basting them on with my machine...
then appliqueing them down by hand
and removing the basting stitch.

Then....
I apply the leaves using a needle turn method.
I've penciled in the pattern LIGHTY on the white fabric.

The leaves won't be all EXACTLY the same size....
but I think I'll like it in the END!!!

This is the funky pattern I made for this project.
You can see I began sketching with pencil
and then REFINED my placement with the Sharpie!
LOL!
This is what is known as a HOMEMADE pattern.
;)

Friday Finish

I can't take credit for making this WHOLE quilt.
It all began with a whole bunch of orphans
given to me by another quilter.

Thank you Cathy!!!!

I made some scrappy blocks to match.....
I figured out how to lay them out...
But....
Since there weren't QUITE enough for a quilt,
I added a BLANK slate in the middle.

I WILL take credit for the center applique.
Isn't it great?
Getting the colors just right was the hardest part!

I had a green floral for the backing
and some yellow for the binding.

See all that quiting??
I don't usually quilt this heavily...
but the center seemed to be CALLING for it!!!

This, my friends, is a  REAL scrappy quilt.
My FAVORITE kind.
Lots of little HAPPY pieces of fabric.
Old
and NEW.
Dark
and LIGHT.

Mmm....Mmmmm...GOOD!

Laurel Leaf

The center to this scrappy quilt
is now complete.

I began with a few orphan blocks...
made some more of my own.....
pieced them together
LEAVING an EMPTY muslin center.

Backwards....I know.....

But didn't it turn out nice?

Using this product made it extra speedy.

ALL the leaves are the SAME size.
That helps too!

Had to pull out my little machine
since Ms. Juki doesn't "DO" zigzag.
;)
Did you hear her SARCASTIC voice???
Yeah.
I did too.

In other news....
My husband's garden is going GANGbusters
keeping me BUSY in the kitchen!!!

Every night I try to figure out a way
to incorporate a Garden item
into whatever I'm making!
Kind of like scrap quilting....
...kind of....
