Child's Play

When my 5 year old friend comes to visit....
I don't need toys!

I have something EVERY quilter has.....
FABRIC.

She often requests me to pull out the "squares".

Sometimes I pull out the 2 1/2" drawer.
Sometimes I pull out the 3" drawer.

Sometimes she arranges them in LONG rows.
Sometimes she arranges them like THIS!!!

Everytime....
I admire her work
and am reminded again how much I LOVE quilting!
I love the amazing way we can CREATE
using JUST a simple SQUARE!!!!

Wednesday

A finish!!!
It's even quilted!!!

I had fun digging around here for the "right" colors!
Does your sewing area get as MESSY as mine
when this is going on????
EEEK!!!!!!

It was nice
because the scraps did NOT have to be
any CERTAIN size.
Skinny and fat strips together
make a
VERY pretty quilt!!!

I did my ol' standby swirly lines for quilting......

Added some binding
(from some old fabric that I LOVE!
It's so dainty and sweet...
JUST like the bride!)

And next....

I'm going to sit down with a NICE HOT cup of COFFEE
and sew that binding down
on the back!!!

Wedding shower for friend is Saturday.
I'll get it done
JUST in time!!!

Time Flies

My daughter's a wife.
I have a wonderful new son.
How did it happen so fast??

She was a toddler just yesterday!

She let me make the veil.
:)
I made MINE when I married my husband 24 years ago.
It's a simple one...
just like the one I made 24 years ago.

I'm thankful today.
so thankful.
and stunned.
How did it happen so fast???

During all the busy-ness.....
I finished this little art quilt.
20"x20"
Just a peek!
The details are here...
and the deadline is June 1.

Still time to celebrate with

I also did some crochet stitching.
Guess where my mind's been???
Homemaking.
Making a new house a home.
Beginning life together.....

By the way.....
For those that know I've been working on a wedding quilt.
It's NOT done.
:/
It'll GET done.

A few more Thursday mornings...
and It'll get there!!!!

Friday

The very last little project before the BIG day!
Wedding is scheduled for Sunday.
The littlest girl needs a small hair bow.
I NEED a little something to keep my hands busy....
and my MIND at peace.
;)

Good thing I have a button box
FULL of treasure.
All I needed was ONE pretty button.....

and a TINY bit of lace.
I love having this bag of leftover lace
READY for the next little project.

I'm all done with this simple hair bow.

I think we're ready now for the BIG day.
Daughter to be married is COOKING up a storm!
That's HER way of dealing with the busy-ness!!!!
So....
we're enjoying family Dinners
and
BIG breakfasts!!!

I'm not complaining!
LOL!

Some sanity sewing

I've said it before.
I'll say it again.
When life is SUPER busy...
I sew scraps together.
?????

Scraps that DON't NEED to be sewn together.
:/

I find it helps me get through the busy times
with some sanity.
;)

My daughter is getting married Sunday.
So what am I DOING???

I'm pulling out scraps.

Sewing them together willy nilly
and
getting them trimmed up.

Between wedding preparations...
I sew.

I'm SURE to have a nice stringy quilt top when it's over!
:)
Maybe I'll have a couple of pictures too!

Art and Fabric

There's a natural progression from quilt to art.
First you make something USEFUL
then...
You make something for FUN!

This little art quilt won a 2nd place today
in the local art show.
I'm pleased.
;)

Sometimes my little art projects
DO
turn into something USEFUL.
Here's a small practice piece.

It didn't work in the art quilt I made a while back....
but it WORKS in the kitchen!!!
;)

Quick and Easy

When the baby quilt you want to give
should have been made YESTERDAY....
6" squares are your FRIEND!

When you HAVE to make a baby quilt
EVERY single time someone has a baby...
even if you BARELY know them...
6" squares are your FRIEND!

You begin with ONE piece of really cute fabric....

Even if there's not enough.
That's o.k.
Pieced backings are "in".

After quickly piecing 6" squares together
making sure to use WHITE,
because white is ALWAYS a winner....
You squiggle through each square
eyeballing a diagonal line as you go.
No One notices if the line is straight
when it SQUIGGLES!!!!

A nice soft pink binding is the finishing touch.

and...
It's done!
