Monday Making

Which do you prefer?

The modern multi color....
Or...
The classic red and white??

I tend to switch my likes.
😊

Today.....it's GIVE me ALL the color!!

These little coasters were so fun to put together.

Isn't it wonderful that quilting is so practical??

There are so many things to make!

Monday Making

It’s that time of year!

I was so happy to get these pillows finished BEFORE Christmas!
:)

The smaller version is a lumbar pillow case that just slips over
A pillow already in use.

I think I’ll try in the future to make seasonal pillow cases
That can slip over the ones I own already!
Why didn’t I think of that years ago??

My youtube channel has info on making this simple block.
Link is HERE

Monday Making in December

This week I used this little quilt for inspiration......

(I made this a few years ago and love using it every year!)

And I made this one.
I think I like those little red ties even better than the hand quilting on the first!!

Teeny tiny quilts are so fun to make!
I bet you know someone with a little doll who needs a gift...right?

These squares are 1" finished.

I also shared on my Youtube channel info on making this quilt.
Probably the simplest Christmas tree quilt on the Planet!!
LOL.

These little triangles were in a baggie and picked up
at a quilt guild meeting.
I decided to leave them AS IS and make a quilt!
The fabrics are all old calicos and I just LOVE them!

The little cabin in the woods gives this quilt some charm as well.
:)

I also did some knitting.
This little beanie took me THREE times to get right.
Casting on the correct amount was a guess....hence the problems....;)
I finally figured it out and ended up using EVERY bit
of the little ball of yarn I chose!!!

Whew!
Just made it!

Monday Making

Are you making little Christmas things this year?
I bet we ALL are making something.
It's part of the holiday tradition for me!

Can't let a Christmas go by without creating SOMETHING!
Right?

These little Santas are an old favorite of mine.
This year I made a few more and instead of adding fake greenery
I cut some rosemary from the garden.
I'm so happy with the look and the nice SCENT!!

I also made a super quick and easy little baby quilt!
Chinese coins in little boy colors.

Baby boys are a little bit tricky to sew for.
You want sweet....but it can't be TOO SWEET!
Haha.

I'm getting SO close to finishing my borders for
my hospital sketches quilt!

It's been my evening GO TO sewing when the chores are done!

What are YOU making this week??
Thanks for sharing.

Monday Making

I am still plugging away on my King's Cross quilt.
I'm using ALL greens and the alternate blocks are cream with a little red.
I am ALMOST out of the cream and red in my stash.
Unbelievable....but true.
As you can see they are a mix of fabrics.
A scrappy, controlled mix.

I just LOVE the colors.
Kind of Christmassy and yet it's a classic ALL year kind of palette.

I'm also doing some NECESSARY work.

At least that's what I'm telling myself.

These poor little handmade snowmen....
Made by the kids long ago.... had lost their beanies.

My job is to get those poor icy heads COVERED!!!

I had fun whipping up the navy beanie.

The next one will be a reddish color.

Necessary. Necessary. Work.

*********************

Hat pattern:
cast on 30 stitches with sock yarn using #1 needles (double pointed)
(knit in the round)

garter stitch about 4 rows.
stocking stitch  2" or so.
decrease for 3 rows..or so.

gather the top together with a yarn needle.

Pattern is technically lacking..
but it worked!

Monday Making

I am exploring the King's Cross quilt block....

inspired by this OLD quilt.

It's good for me to get my brain cells  moving
as I try to figure out the quilt block.
:)

I found some tutorials for a 12" block.....
But I wanted a smaller version.

I posted a youtube tutorial HERE.

I'm also working on some applique borders.
The hospital sketches quilt needed a little more "something"...
so I'm enjoying some slow stitching and
adding a little more applique to the quilt.

Monday Making

\
No. It's not spring here.
Is it there where you are?
:)

It's time to be thinking winter. snow. ice.
Christmas!!!

But I'm over here making spring flowers.

What are YOU making?

The flowers will be used in a future table mat.
I make a few small quilts (table mats)
for a yearly retreat.
We'll see if there will BE a retreat next year!

Looks as though it may be cancelled again.
But.....
I will continue to make quilts!!!
Pandemics can't stop THAT from happening.

Thank. goodness.

Monday Making

I was very happy to work on this happy scrappy quilt this week.
The block I call “square dance” and I love the way the strips of fabric twirl around.
And, of course, the fact that it's VERY scrappy makes me smile.

I also made a few scrunchies for the girls in my family.
I made just ONE out of velvet....and think I may make some more with some
Fancy or unusual fabrics!
You can probably guess my stash gives me a few options.
Wink. wink.

I pulled out some stripes and started this little quilt.
Stripes are one of my VERY favorite kinds of fabric!

Anyone else have a weakness for donuts??
I purchased a donut pan (like a muffin tin)

YUM!!!

Monday Making

I am working on some paper piecing this week.
It’s been a LONG time since I tried this type of hand sewing.
I was in a hurry to pack the supplies as I was getting ready to visit my son and daughter in law.
So....
The fabrics were chosen in a big HURRY!
This will be practice piece.
I’ll turn it into a table mat when it’s done. :)

I used a template to draw the diamonds on freezer paper.
Then I pressed the papers onto some scraps.
Once the freezer paper shapes were pressed on...
And the scraps trimmed with a selvage added...
I was ready to GO!!

All I need in this hand work bag Is the needle, thread and small scissors!!

What is your favorite way to prepare
English paper piecing???

Do you use prepared paper shapes?
Plastic shapes??
I have TONS of freezer paper...
So I think I will continue to use this method.
A little more labor intensive..
But it’s FREE!!

I want to make a red and blue quilt...

I want to make a Christmas quilt!

So MANY possibilities.

I LOVE possibilities!!!

What colors would you pull from your stash??
Curious minds want to know.
:)

I did little tutorial on my youtube channel.

Monday Making

Are you ready for the coming season?
Adding this teeny tiny quilt to the pumpkin display
makes me so happy.

And....
Little tiny quilts are quick and EASY to make.
EVEN when the half square triangles are 1" square!
:)

Monday Making

What have I been making?
Mostly making memories with the grandchildren in Texas.
But.... I did get a little sewing in.
:)

A few weeks ago I made a log cabin block on foundation.

This week....(I have very little in the way of sewing supplies).....
I made the same thing with the center square ON POINT.

Can anyone help me with the name of this block?

Is it a log cabin “on point”?

I know some of you quilters will know the answer!

Monday Making

This week I used this hexagon quilt as my inspiration.
(I made it for daughter and son-in-law a few years ago for their wedding)

I made a few hexagon rows and am fashioning a table runner.
I did a little demo on my youtube channel.
I used a half hexagon approach WITHOUT a special ruler.

I drew a 60 degree line on my quilting ruler for my angle...
And....
It worked out just fine.
:)

 I also did some knitting.
It’s almost SLIPPER WEATHER!!

Monday Making

What do YOU pack when traveling?
I always want my “sewing room” with me...
So I usually pack a machine if at ALL possible.
:)

This little featherweight...
Even though it is NOT light as a feather,
Is my favorite machine to travel with.

It’s such a simple machine.
AND CUTE!!!

I have this older roller bag that my machine case fits into perfectly.
I think I bought it at a thrift store many moons ago.

Setting up a sewing room when I’m traveling is pretty high on my list of
Traveling essentials.
Especially if I’ll be in ONE place for a while.

How about you??
