Flowers for a Friend

I love to give flowers to my friends.

Thanks to my GREEN THUMB of a Husband...
I almost ALWAYS have SOME kind of blossom to GIVE!!!
;)

I usually have little leftover jars in the cupboard.
This one came from the grocery store FULL of instant coffee.
Let's face it...
I'm NOT a coffee snob...
BUT
I DO need like my COFFEE!!!
I really didn't want to take the time and effort
to get rid of that AWFUL glue mess on the side of this jar....
so....

I covered it up!!!
FABRIC to the RESCUE again!!!

A little bit of modgepodge was ALL it took!

I added a scrappy tote bag
and my gift was COMPLETE!

End of story:
My friend LOVED IT!!!
Woo hoo!!!

One slab of comfort.

One slab of color.
Another opportunity to
GIVE a QUILT away!

Details here.

********
Why is it.....
when you dig in the scrap bag for the "RIGHT" colors..
the scrap bag EXPLODES???
It was ALL in the bag...
now it's ALL OVER the room!!!!

Finished on Friday

Some of you knit or crochet.
Maybe you do it while you watch a movie?
I weave.
:)

I can watch a movie...
Have a conversation.....
Move around the house to different locations
with my portable table loom.

I liked the colors in the pillows I made recently
and wondered how a BAG might look.

I think it looks just FINE!

Thrifty

Feeling Thrifty and Frugal today.
;)

Pulled out my patriotic/picnic quilt
made long ago using
RED, WHITE and BLUE scraps.
LOVE. IT.

Didn't have enough of the LUSCIOUS red...
so I added a piece of blue.

Made before I knew how to add a binding...
so the backing was cut EXTRA big
and wrapped around to the front.
Quilted very simply.

I used an old blanket for the batting.
Frugal INDEED!

I also patched some blankets this morning
and added new satin binding.

Yes.
I'm feeling EXTRA thrifty!!!

I cut two patches equal sizes...
pressed the edges in...

and added one to the front
and one to the back!!!

See how the stitching shows up from the first patch??
I can sort of follow along as I add the other patch on top!!!

I also patched a cream blanket.

Just giving NEW life to old blankets!!!

The side of this one also needed a little fixing.
;)

I DID purchase the satin binding.
I wondered about using cotton for the binding next time.
Any thoughts on the pros and cons of that????
I've got LOTS of cotton fabric
around here somewhere!!!

I can ONLY think of the pros right now.

Last, but not least...
I made a THRIFTy salad.

Everything came from the garden.
THIS morning.

A Thrifty Thursday.
A Happy Fourth!
 A wonderful DAY!!!

Squares

My love affair with squares continues.
I will never get tired of the SIMPLE square.

Pieced some 2" lovelies together yesterday.

Found some gifted fabric
that will make a HAPPY quilt.

Squared up my 16 patches to 6 1/2".
Yeah!
They just needed a LITTLE trimming!

Cut some 6 1/2" squares from that FUN fabric.

Quickly cut 2 1/2" squares out of the leftover piece on the right.

Put them IMMEDIATELY into the 2 1/2" drawer....
READY for the next time I need 2 1/2"

Loving the process of sewing as I admire my blocks!
They watch me from the floor as I work.

Stacks of Blocks are Piling up.
2" of mostly OLD fabric
joining
the NEW 6 1/2" HAPPY fabric!!!

If you look REALLY close
you might even see 2" of Christmas!
:)

Three Things

This RIOT of color
STOPPED me in my tracks at the local thrift store.

I don't need an Afghan.
But.....

When it's only $3!!!
"I'll TAKE it."

YOU know
and I KNOW
I don't need IT!!!!

You ALL know what that pink flower is, right?
But.....
DO you know the name of THIS one??

It's on a very TALL stalk in my backyard.

I picked one flower and set it in a small bowl of water.
Is that the right way to display this beauty?

I'd love to know more.

Just sent Husband and daughter OFF
on a backpacking trip with friends!

When they're gone I don't cook.
MORE TIME for sewing!!!!

Monday

I've been weaving again.
;)
I like scrappy quilts...
AND
I like scrappy weaving!

In these pillows I was able to include:
Polyester yarn
wool yarn
knit fabric
cotton yarn
fleece fabric
LOTS of texture!

This project came about because I was CURIOUS.
That's how LOTS of my little projects get going.

I was curious about mixing different yarns/fibers.
I was curious about what a pillow might look like
if it was WOVEN.

I'm very happy with how it turned out.
I LOVE the mix of colors.

A nice white linen backing completed my "pillow" project!

Love the whites.
Love the greens and blues.
Nice ocean"y" colors!

These are now listed in my shop.
