Treasure

I went treasure hunting yesterday
at the thrift store.

Aren't these shirts great???
Men's Extra Large.
Look at how they go together?
They will make a GREAT quilt!!!

I also found this LOVELY pedestal piece.
Mmmm....

Even my thread looks pretty here.

THEN......
While cleaning out a closet to make room for new treasures....
I found THIS!!!!
My oldest daughter made this a long time ago.
Isn't it sweet?

Butterflies cut out......
Without the aid of a Machine!!! ;)
and hand stitched down.

I'm keeping this treasure.
I think It's my favorite one!

college bound

School began yesterday for my little one.
Aaaah! Finally a quiet CHUNK of time
to quilt a quilt!

This is my friend's quilt top.
(made for a college bound niece).
She trusted ME to quilt it for her!!!

Yes. Miracles STILL do happen!
;)
It WAS a little scary to use my machine on HER quilt!

what if???
What if????

I kept telling myself to
SLOW down
and if all else fails...
I would just RIP OUT!

The pep talk worked!

Ripping out was NOT necessary!!!
Woo Hoo!!!

This quilt is NOW READY to move into
the freshmen dorms with my friend's niece!

Don't you like the way she perked up a simple quilt pattern
with the appliqued musical notes?
This one will be loved, I'm sure!

Busy

I'm busy figuring out what to do with a
BOATLOAD of tomatoes.....

As I think about how to make
a LIGHTNING BOLT grow.

I've been doing some FIGURING.
and....

My figuring
Doesn't always ADD UP!!!
You can see SOME are lightning bolts...
and some that just aren't
LIGHTing UP!!!
:/

Ah well....
Figuring is fun!
I'll continue.

Why does the tomato harvest
always arrive on the
HOTTEST day of the year???
Just wondering.

Tuesday

It's not a quilt until it's quilted.....
Right?
It's been while since I've quilted anything bigger than a baby sized quilt....
and.....
It showed!
I need to get my quilting MoJo back!!!
There were a few "Oops!" moments as I quilted this one!
QUITE a few!
;)

That stash sure comes in handy though!
The back is pieced from some of my flowery fabrics.
Now it's
Done. done. done.
Woo Hoo!
Off to the post office VERY soon!
I'll be mailing this to Victoria for her BASICS quilt donation drive.

Thought I'd share with you our dinner last night.
ALL thanks to blogland!
I picked this recipe up last summer from Carla.
It's a WINNER!!!

But you know ME!
I don't follow directions very well.
This quiche is LOADED with tomatoes!
The recipe calls for a few cherry tomatoes.
These are the kind of tomatoes we've got at MY house!!!....
So that's what I used!
AND
I used a LOT!
The other change was recommended by Carla.
Switch the broccoli for Zucchini...
Because....
YOU KNOW....
That's what's coming out of our ears!!!

And guess what????

We're all fighting over the last piece!
;)

How To.

Here's a short How to.
Not revolutionary in the least!
But Julie asked.
So I'm showing her how I did it!
;)

Choosing the fabric.
The hardest part!
Body.
Arms.
Legs.
You can think about shoes later.

My rectangle is 9"x8"
(You need a front and back.)
But don't measure.
That makes it more fun!

Trim.
You now have a little dress.

Lay out the face fabric.
Draw a head....kind of matching it up with the top of the dress.

Simple face.

Starry eyes and a little mouth.

The FUN part!
Pull out some trim!
If this is going to a baby....use felt for the buttons.

Sew it on.

Attach head (front and back) to the dress.

Time for some HAIR!
I pulled out some 2" strips....measurements are NOT exact.

Sew the strips in thirds to hide the cut edges.
Try them on.
This time I'm adding more hair.
Be creative!

Sew head together.

Check out her hair-do.
Do you like it?

Legs.
Two rectangles and
two little rectangles for shoes.

Sew them together.

Fold and sew.

When you get down the shoes.....
sew a curve.

Trim.

Now she's ready for some arms....and hands.

Here they are.

Make them just like you did the legs!

Well??
What do you think?

Stuff the arms and legs.

Cross her arms so they'll hang down a bit when she's done.

Sew down the sides.

Almost done!

Stuff. stuff...stuff....'
But leave a little bit UNSTUFFED!

It makes attaching these legs a lot easier!
Pin them on folding the edge of her dress up.

Sew across the bottom....
STOP!
Leave a little opening...

So you can finish the stuffing.

Slip stitch that little opening...
and give her a
HUG!!!

I've started a flickr group for these!
I want to see what you make!
